Cavalry army thoughts

Hello everyone

Trying to decide on what regiment to make my cavalry army. Army list here:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330006-1850pt-cavalry-list/?do=findComment&comment=4632137

First, I am using Ragnaroks as my Leman Russ'

I have a few thoughts on what regiments, all of which I am trying to create something both unique and grim dark

1. Praetorians. Unlike anything else, more Household Cavalry than Life Guards. Riding Death Rider horses

2. Savlar Chem-Riders. Again on death rider horses, going for double rebreather action.

*To achieve horses, I will be chopping up the models, sculpting back together minus bodies, casting up multiples to save time.

I consider myself a good converter so not a problem. They will be based with snow.

What do you think? Any cool conversion ideas? Would another regiment all on horses be even cooler?

Really want to hear your thoughts on this

Well, I can't suggest any regiments but if you need riders (including pretorians) then you can find them here:

The cavalry I am converting will be riding badgers like these (but my astra militarum are squats):

There is also a company that make steam powered horses  (that look pretty cool) but I can't remember what they are called.

EDIT: Here they are: http://www.coppermineminiatures.co.uk/shop/4591042195

Link doesnt work, site is down I think. Which is a shame because a Vostroyan army on steam powered horses would look great

Check out curios constructs as well - they have lots of British themed cav torsos to choose from - vic's kilted legs are awesome - can't recommend her stuff enough

DK models are smaller than regular guardsmen so the heads probably wont fit too well. Not to mention they're actually one piece so you had to cut them out..

Cutting them is not a problem, currently cutting up 5 for my command squad, so my command are standing around having dismounted. Scale is a worry, think Victoria miniatures may work as they are less 'Heroic'

But currently leaning towards

Savlar 57th Chem-Riders 'Moss Raiders'

Just noticed this! I would love to see some WIP pics.

I'm doing something similar (using the DKoK Deathrider list)

Though I'm not brave enough to go full cavalry!

The Praetorian bitz will look epic with the Deathrider mounts,

kinda like Charge of the Light Bregade (hopefully with a better end!)

As I said, looking forward to seeing how this project develops.

Be Brave and go full cavalry. I want to convert up some Heavy weapon teams being towed by horses

It would be fun too see another Savlar army on here. We could join forces and steal EVERYTHING!! msn-wink.gif I also can recommend Vic Minis...good stuff

Also, I know its a very different style to the 2 regiments you said but the Attilans are supposed to be purely cavalry, and I don't think I've seen it done before.

I love how original GW is with naming things sometimes tongue.png

With Savlar,do you think their tank crews wouldnt wear chem masks, and instead modify the tanks air filters to share the chems?

I've been wondering the same thing for my chem dogs as I'm planning on doing my first tank soon. I suppose it could go either way but I'm giving mine masks just so they fit with the rest of the army. The whole idea of savlar armies is that they steal bits and pieces so maybe some do and some dont

Maybe your crew stole mine ;-) I am leaning the other way. As masks and individual chem tanks are bulky and would take up a lot of room inside.

I have also decided my Leman Russ shall be Ragnaroks
