This will be my WiP thread for my projects on the 1st Legion throughout 2017. Starting off with:

Two Tactical squads
Two Terminator squads

Everything is mostly built and I'll be posting as I paint. Any input would be great.

This is the black I'll be going with for the armor:

Hmm, wierd that this didnt get any replies. I like it! Nice choice of armour mark and a very nice black! How did you do it? Its hard to tell if its highlighted or if its only matte. Either way it looks good in your pictures.

Do you have a list that you are building or is it more of a unit by unit type of project?

I am using L&T to Build my "base". No veterans or special characters, so I do not anticipate a lot of extra decorations.

The black is done with:

Primer black base

Heavy dry brush Vallejo Dark Blue Grey

Heavy dry brush Vallejo Dark Sea Grey

Wash with a mix of Vallejo Black Shade and Nuln Oil

Wash with Nuln Oil

I am liking it as it gives an almost carbon color to the armor.

I am not building off a list as I will just be building and learning along the way with Dark Angels throughout 2017.

I was so, so close. Emergency surgery caused my eyes to swell shut for two weeks there at the end and put me behind schedule. Ah well. I'll still going to finish the project and post updates and better pics here later when available.

I am trying not to overdo the checks which I think would be easy to do. I am going to have two distinct Terminator cadres (veteran and inner circle) which means not all my standard Termies need be uber-heroes. I'll add a few here and there into my squads as well (SGT's and grunts) to show heroism and notice is achieved at all ranks LOL

Thanks for the kind reply and the input, much appreciated.

The remind me of a certain canine themed legion/ chapter. biggrin.png

But, why not? Knights can have epic beards, too.

I see the "grunts" as laymen. My Knights will be the inner circle and be more clean cut and less battle damaged. I want to have multiple ways of showing on the board the difference between the two cadres (gold v. silver trim, hair, honor marks, battle damage, ornate weaponry/ armor) rather than simply having different colors that would come along later in the fluff.

The "canine-inspired" Legion you speak of is full of laymen that simply display superior prowess to attain promotion. All legions would have had such bearded savage warriors. The ranks would have been full of them (except maybe the XIII).

Also, nothing has ever suffered from being inspired by Russ' get :)
