New Thunderhawk spotted? Is it finally happening?

As you all know the first images of inferno appeared already in Warhammer Community but... what is that ship behind the Stormbird?

On a close look, it is clearly a different design of anything we have seen up until today. Check the closeup:

And this is the current version of the Thunderhawk as designed by Forgeworld:

So there are some very clear differences:

  • Fin above the cannon
  • Different cockpit
  • Wings are angled differently
Also, it is clearly not a Stormbird since it has a forward assault ramp, no ball turrets and a Thunderhawk cannon!

Is finally a plastic Thunderhawk being released? Has the kit been redone since it´s one of the oldest ones? Speculate away!

Looks to me like it could conceivably be a digital model, but it's detailed enough that I doubt it would be made merely for this image. Possibly it's a tester for when they were doing scale comparisons for determining the size of Adeptus Titanicus figures, with an updated look.

Either way, I'm hopeful this'll make it's way into a full-scale 30k / 40k model, and I particularly like the frontal weapon mounts being styled on the Armoured Phobos / Mk IIb Proteus sponsons

Also: the possibilities - if this ever gets a release at whatever scale, I've gotta design at least one variant - Thunderhawk Destroyer, no transport, all dakka devil.gif

GW: creates plastic Thunderhawk - sized for Adeptus Titanicus.

"Of course we have the capability to do a plastic Thunderhawk. Here you go."

Much wailing and gnashing of teeth ensues in the community.

Lol imagine a plastic THawk.

GW are capable with their new facilities. I've heard they've already created prototypes of a plastic Warhound.

I've heard 1 prototype warhound in existence roughly 8 baneblade size sprues.

A plastic warhound and thwak would be instant buys for me but it'd kill my fw for a while currently they are the only fw minis I want but don't have excluding the warlord which I could never justify that sort of expenditure to the SO

I'm thinking this is a resin revamp of the Thunderhawk by ForgeWorld. The old one is one of their most aged kits and is notorious for being a hard kit to work on, and Sokar Stormbird sales vs old Thunderhawk sales may have gone a ways towards driving a new design. Hard to say for sure, but we'll probably know after this weekend...

I just hope the Transporter version is still kicking round when we see the Thunderhawk again, I'm probably in the minority but I'd like one/maybe two to represent moving heavier equipment planetside and running a rolling campaign.

Plastic Thunderhawks would make that far more financially viable.

Well, they did say they were re-doing the mould for the Transporter...

If this *is* a new version, I wonder if they will keep the interior? Also, I'm concerned that there will be a price increase.

Oh, and I hate this thread on principle :p

Oh, I feel you. I'm screwed. I was literally thinking to myself a week ago, "man, if they extensively re-tooled the Thunderhawk I would pick one up in a heartbeat." The only way my wallet is safe is if this is actually a CAD design for Adeptus Titanicus or something, and even then.

Well... to be fair I can't recall any picture in any of the other 6 Horus Heresy books from Forgeworld that includes the picture of a model that isn't available today, so make out of that what you wish smile.png

There are a few helm variants in some of the early books (I believe in Betrayal) that never made it into production. Besides that, though, I can't think of any models that weren't available.

I think the warlord titan in book 5 is slightly different to what is on sale. I think the chin armour isn't the same. I also havr one of the vraks inperial armpur books (will check when i get home) that has 3d renders in it of models that weren't released yet for death korps.

But GW and FW have moved away in the last few years for doing art they don't have models released or coming for.

Not sure whether I want a new Thunderhawk because I'd want to buy it...or not want one because I'd want to buy it.

In addition to the differences noted, the picture seems to be lacking the missiles and has additional ablative armour plates on its side, just past and under where the forward small wing is, from the look of it continuing from the plates from infront of the wing that the current hawk does kind of have.

Though the missile thing could just be not putting them on out of preference, and I'm only 50% sure that I'm not imagining things with the armour plates.
