binary
Welcome to the workshop Now that we've moved and I have a dedicated hobby room (henceforth referred to as "the workshop") I thought it was time I got myself organised, and setup a proper blog. It also occurred to me while unpacking that my armies all need updating, whether it was the list, the bases, the paint scheme or details (I think my IG regiment were started waaay back in 2004). So where am I going with this you may ask? Well this is where I'm going to show the updates, as well as any side projects I happen to get distracted by. Let's start with where we are now. Firstly the gratuitous hobby desk shot, now that nearly everything has arrived and been set up (still trying to find the right desk lamp) http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/9CE7E7D0-6E2A-4E88-939C-BB0DC968DE43_zpscietp7ef.jpg Then each of the armies starting point. The Patrian 121st Royal Light Infantry. The army list Command squad with standard, 2x grenade launchers, primaris psycher Ogryn squad Storm trooper squad, 2x meltagun, taurox Infantry platoon-command section, standard, 2x flamer, squad with grenade launcher, squad with grenade launcher, squad with grenade launcher, heavy weapon squad with las cannons Infantry platoon-command section, standard, 2x flamer, squad with grenade launcher, squad with grenade launcher, squad with grenade launcher, heavy weapon squad with heavy bolters Rough rider squad Rough rider squad Leman Russ Basilisk http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/FFCD1D91-96AC-4F20-9D20-EC82675EFAC3_zpsnoauvnqx.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/8513DC5E-F9E4-4507-8E6B-507652234488_zpsnydei4an.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/04CD2B32-0AD3-4B95-823A-84D556D2986A_zpslkoa1o4e.jpg Big parts for this is building the basilisk and taurox and matching them to the steampunk style of the army. I'm also going to rebase the army as the static grass and gravel looks a little tired. I'm also repainting all the skin tones (why 2004 me thought dwarf flesh followed by flesh wash was a good look 2017 me will never know) World Eaters 128th company Chaos Lord, terminator armour, 2xchainfist, terminator retinue with landraider Hellbrute, 2x power fists, combi bolter, heavy flamer 8 chaos marines, plasma gun 8 chaos marines, plasma gun 5 chaos marines, flamer 5 chaos marines, flamer, 5 havocs, 4x missile launcher 5 havocs, 4x meltagun, rhino 3 obliterators http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/warhammer/46B5CFF8-CDB2-46AB-A713-1531CA4ADEA9_zpsgbu1ngfs.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/warhammer/31BA913F-6616-4F15-9BEA-CEA646F24315_zpsdjsm89ca.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/warhammer/BBFF3482-78AE-4348-83AC-A82B476864F6_zps70kdqhli.jpg So with these guys I need to build 3 more marines (and having plastic mkIV makes this so much easier), weather everything to match the landraider, finalise the rhino, and rebuild the hellbrute. I was never truly happy with the design I started with and after Commissar Molotov's post *here* I knew what route to take....cue converting a leviathan. White Scars 6th company Captain, bike, relic blade Librarian, bike Command squad, standard, apothecary, champion, 2plasma pistol, bikes Bike squad, 5 marines, 2 meltagun guns, attack bike with multimelta Bike squad, 5 marines, 2 meltagun guns, attack bike with multimelta Bike squad, 5 marines, 2 meltagun guns Tactical squad, sergeant with power fist, heavy bolter, razorback Landspeeder squadron. 2 landspeeder switch assault cannon and heavy bolter Storm hawk interceptor Predator annihilator Relic Sicaran http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/6D1362AA-3679-406B-9E90-D097FF3A0FA0_zpsl8e8nv7f.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/88F1712E-DA1C-4B7E-88D2-9D63BE4EF6F0_zps8bbvnqwd.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/6C83C2F5-15B7-46AF-A868-375E80C10E8F_zpsewkom3tp.jpg Now these guys were originally built as a Ravenwing force using the 2008 DA codex, so have undergone the biggest changes. Out goes Sammael, and in comes a Captain, an apothecary, a company champion, 3 more bikers, another attack bike and conversion work on the "stormhog" to make it a wysiwyg Stormhawk and Landspeeder vengeance to make it my Sicaran. So let's start with where I am. Patrian 121st WIP Basilisk. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-01/D3BC0350-B09F-4B42-8D55-1349952075BA_zps60gos3ml.jpg Built the main body she'll for the gun carriage, based it on the AM onager dunecrawler, the basilisk (duh!) and a sentinel for the cab to match my Leman Russ. Now to start detailing the armour panels and adding a bucket load of rivets. White Scars 6th WIP Captain http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-01/23342B07-F553-4C69-9A17-3D348210B81A_zpsw9leow3r.jpg Thanks for looking. Noctem Cultor
Great personal touches all around, I love how different that steampunk force is but still feels right. binary
So. First update and its for the white scars. WIP pics of the captain, apothecary, company champion and the second attack bike. Painting will start shortly as I'm desperate to try out my new airbrush. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/104D7040-923F-4137-BC06-1418DAC7AC0A_zps2exxyyay.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/A9521D24-972C-4F84-B6A6-BF91D997DE9B_zpsjn6skgcf.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/1A2E34AA-276D-4078-9FA1-74D26F203C21_zpsnezle2hj.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/6587B9D7-4EFC-4B19-8328-498479DA8CE3_zpsid1wzkxu.jpg Also finished changing the stormhog into a stormhawk by swapping the heavy bolters to assault cannons http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/8199DEA0-7243-4A5E-BAAB-DD2BB70290C4_zpsayohjy0m.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/936CE18D-AF77-42FD-A73B-543143128496_zpsvlvowdmk.jpg Thanks for looking Binary Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330488-binarys-workshop-08-march-truescale-dreadnought-finished/#findComment-4646354 Share on other sites
Noctem Cultor
All looking good, they all have a very White Scars feel to them. Liking the captain and attack bike in particular. Good luck with the air brush painting just started using one myself saves so much time and opens up plenty of cool effects. -Noctem Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330488-binarys-workshop-08-march-truescale-dreadnought-finished/#findComment-4646372 Share on other sites
binary
Busy weekend so far. Since I've been going through my older armies seeing what needs updating I realised that the dreadnought/helbrute for my truescale world eaters doesn't have the oomph to match the size of my marines. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/C57152B4-FADE-460C-B674-0F58CC7F0D20_zpszbt1iyxo.jpg Now commissar molotov inspired the change in direction with this post http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294073-true-scale-deathwatch-2901-red-hunter/page-11 After a few hours work this is the new version. Based on the forgeworld leviathan with the scarcophagus and underslung weapons from a box dread. Still needs detailing and riveting but it's a good start. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/D38A3B40-E027-4F67-844F-E46DB3C29435_zpsj08ovwwz.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/6DDF6895-EEA9-449C-A3B3-B5381EE3AD22_zpsih39rv8o.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/E6AD1363-1828-4328-B454-8D604ABE35FA_zpsx7rum8ul.jpg Feedback always welcome -Binary Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330488-binarys-workshop-08-march-truescale-dreadnought-finished/#findComment-4660815 Share on other sites

binary
So, another update on the box dread. Decided that the leviathan body looked too plain and needed some decoration. Taking inspiration from the pre release pics of the red scorpion leviathan this is what I've finalised http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/CCEB8CB6-8976-44E3-876E-DABB463C0730_zps82830yrf.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/8094DD06-0ADE-48B8-906C-F04419831B11_zpstjpcelaz.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/1C824672-D82B-4E16-A733-CFA442F92058_zpsr433dab6.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/5053B6FE-9651-480E-B7DE-B76CA1F20FC9_zpsgd0gipgo.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/1261611B-1D71-44C7-88A5-23D8D717E251_zps73hpe6b8.jpg Decided to arm him with a combi bolter on one arm and a heavy flanker on the other http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/D1C915D1-C19D-46C8-A102-028129BA8025_zpszdfozrcv.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-02/72D8428C-12B0-4B9A-8F38-FAB08FAAEA5A_zpsgdsor2pj.jpg Hopefully he should see some paint this weekend. binary
Thanks for the replies guys. It was your deathwatch thread that inspired me to resurrect these guys Commissar Molotov. He still needs a name though, would you object to me calling him "Commolt"? Think it fits the Germanic theme I've been using for names. In other news, started building the obliterators. Decided that as these guys aren't very far down the crimson path that I could use Centurions as a mobile weapon platform. Hence the "Obliterator pattern war suit" http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/world%20eaters/A3670E77-2B06-4041-87EA-1FC2E6C6D504_zpslgtzfd07.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/world%20eaters/64CD056C-28DA-46C5-921A-065FF0B5BA7F_zpsbyddoctw.jpg And a scale shot http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/world%20eaters/CAA615D5-1B8F-4D63-90BE-ED6977B54D88_zpsz0ne9lym.jpg I've also started on my truescale rhino. Vairocanum
That rhino looks fantastic, the extensions look brilliant! I think bulking out the waist for the obliterators would look better. binary
Binary is making a great job!!!! Thanks Mikhal Binary is making a great job!!!! Well, there are 10 types of people who like this plog. Those who do and those who haven't seen it yet... Really like the use of the old empire models in your steampunk guard regiment. World Eater Lev Dread looks promising, too. :tu: Thanks mate. They were the first time I really went to town converting an army, and set the tone for all the other armies I've built. Basically it goes 1) theme. 2) how can it look unique? 3) rules- what does and doesn't fit the theme. That's why the IG have no aircraft and 30 rough riders! That rhino looks fantastic, the extensions look brilliant! I think bulking out the waist for the obliterators would look better. Looking forward to seeing more! Thanks Vairocanum and I agree with the waists of the obliterators.....just waiting for some bits to arrive to finish building them. With the rhino I wanted to hark back to the RT era rhino (the first GW kit I ever bought waaay back in 1991!) plus pay homage to the forgeworld version hence the seperation of the tracks from the main body. It's been assembled and undercoated, should be next for painting and weathering. So onto the new stuff (that's what you came here for anyway isn't it?) Commolt, former Gladiator Champion 64th company XII legion, now now resident of the Hellbrute class dreadnought chassis is finished. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-03/AD0EEE8B-9560-4594-B6C8-2E55B301E4D4_zpsqnrakalb.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-03/624F7336-4877-4CBB-8D1C-3634ABF83FE2_zps0wj0m2ok.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-03/58FD011C-3745-4BF3-A6FF-A1A5987B5E4D_zpsyqa4zzdh.jpg New version compared to old http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-03/45C66C21-2A88-49BE-931E-D51108AFF207_zpsxxo6k6ku.jpg Compared to my truescale world eaters http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-03/598D4C2C-59C6-492B-B8A0-91EB00D73FA9_zpsyd0fj5yl.jpg And with a normal mkIV marine http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m200/mark_kilburn/Mobile%20Uploads/2017-03/AB17A003-DEFC-4417-BED2-848DA5415775_zpsflkgczfi.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330488-binarys-workshop-08-march-truescale-dreadnought-finished/#findComment-4677169 Share on other sites
