Guest
What do people expect the quality and story of Warlord: Fury of the God Machine by David Annandale and Vaults of Terra: The Carrion Throne by Chris Wraight? I am trying slow down my spending and I bought Titanicus after reading on this forum how it was a "must buy" which was unplanned. I also bought Dante and planning on getting book 43 and Perturabo as I already collected this 2 series (Except Roboute, darn you BL for sending my notification late). So I already have alot I am getting, and seeing if either of these 2 books are expected to be any good. I am not familiar enough with the authors to know who to avoid. I also havent seen any chatter about these 2 books. So what are your guys opinion, I know its fairly early but have to plan things. Roomsky
Its hard to go wrong with Chris Wraight. His good stuff is great, and I've not heard of any of his works being anything worse than "okay". Annandale is YMMV, hard to know what to expect. Considering the subject matter, Carrion Throne seems the most promising. b1soul
Wraight's work ranges from solid to excellent The average quality of BL is Thorpe, Kyme, and (in the past) guys like Swallow, Counter, and Scanlon Wraights is way ahead of these guys, even at his worst Annandale is moderately better at his best Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330523-what-are-peoples-thoughts-on-warlord-and-the-carrion-throne/#findComment-4640989 Share on other sites

Xisor
Yeah, I enjoy Annandale's work, broadly, but he often does a few things in the writing that I don't massively care for so he's not top of my list to look out for, or rush out and spend all my food money on. Chris Wraight, on the other hand... Looks like it'll be noodles for dinner in April too. Taliesin
I definitely intend to get Carrion Throne. Will probably go for the regular hardcover as I really like the cover on that. Warlord I am as yet undecided on. I will wait for an excerpt. The premise definitely intrigues me but I am wary of the actual execution. I will probably get Eye of Medusa by Guymer though, also out in May. veterannoob
I'm psyched for both. The authors are part but the subject matter really is what does it for me. Isnt 33m the 2nd tallest titans, only beat by warmonger and imperator that are both extremly rare and hardly used. My 'complaint' is more a tongue in cheek statement, to be honest ... but, if we're looking at where things are right now, Knight Porphyrion's are supposed to rival Scout Titans, but judging from Kingsblade and already given heights/armaments, that puts the Porphyrion at around 18-20 meters tall...which, quite frankly, dwarfs Warhounds. So I say shoot all the heights up, up and away, or alternatively, just keep doing what GW/BL has been doing - making up heights as they go depending on how a given author feels on any day of the week while writing a novel. Edit also, Carrion Throne is pretty current 40k ... exciting! b1soul
To be fair, I think ADB introduced 60m Imperators. Annandale's 33m Warlords would be consistent with that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330523-what-are-peoples-thoughts-on-warlord-and-the-carrion-throne/#findComment-4641872 Share on other sites
DarkChaplain
In Andy Smillie's Armageddon story Blood in the Machine, an Imperator Titan is used to cross a deep body of water and there's a bunch of marines fighting an ork invasion in its legs, while others are fighting up top on its landing pads. Honestly, Titan scales haven't seemed plausible to me in ages. I think Knights have in many ways taken up the space that Titans used to occupy. Lexicanum, by the way, has many different Imperator Titan sources. The Deathwatch RPG books claim it is about 50 meters, False Gods points Dies Irae out as being 43 meters, Horus Rising says the same Titan is 140 meters (what a big discrepancy from book to book..), Helsreach says 60, Jonathan Green's Iron Hands says 70, Deliverance Lost 90 and Fallen Angels 100. So, in essence, Black Library authors the Mechanicum makes this stuff up as they go along. Taliesin
I read the descriptions of the various sizes a while ago on Lexicanum ( with some input from IA books) and it seems to go like this: Space Marine: Between 2.10 and 2.25 in height. Primarch: Not established but going by the miniature difference with a space marine, somewhere between 2.50 and 3.50m in height for someone like Magnus ( if you see him on Neil Roberts cover for CK, he is twice the size of a TS Astartes). Contemptor Dreadnought: Indicated to be between 4.0 and 4.5 meters. Imperial Knight: Around 9 meters on average. Warhound Titan: 14m Reaver Titan: 22m Warlord Titan: 33m That all makes a fair bit of sense to me given how they are depicted in artwork. Needless to say, the Knights in and of themselves are enormous, and the Titans, it's quite awe inspiring. This new image gives a sense, though scalewise I think these would be more around the size of a Warhound or Imperial Knight , you'd expect the Warlord to be even bigger than pictured here: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330523-what-are-peoples-thoughts-on-warlord-and-the-carrion-throne/#findComment-4645725 Share on other sites

Apothecary Vaddon
I've always liked this scale http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/DefaultBL/xlarge/titanicus.jpg Hell, and that hull type, too. Carrion Throne is the only 'must buy' for me from spring time. I heard preview at BL Live and tis aamazing - can't wait to read that glories Terra's depiction. But with Annandale - it hit or miss (let's hope for the better). But I did enjoyed his Titans short from Advent, so fingers crossed. Yeap - all the size where reworked several times. With all the weapons and range in attendance. But the more important part about the Titanicus now - is that I truly wait 'Titanicus' book, but not Annandales - but Specialist Games/Forge World one. It will give us Beta-Garmont!!!!!! With the ominous 'Titan Death' nickname! With historical battles of Razing of Prospero and destruction of Tallarn. So want that book - Annadale's is just a filler comparing to that one. As for the 'Carrion Throne' I simply can't wait to read it. 1) It's Wraight. 2) His preview at Live was amazing. 3) Events on Terra. 4) CSM in Terra suburbs! 5) It will have a strong ending even through it's the first book in duology/trilogy. HeritorA
So Warlord is a titan book? I think I am looking forward to "Carry on thrown" more. same. 'Carrion Throne' would be epic! 'Warlord: God-Machine' by David Annandale is a titan vs chaos titans novel. With released date in April. Could be good - could be bad. But at least comparing to Abnett's Titanicus - Warlord has truly depicted antagonists.
