Pariah32
I bought the lilimted edition as i had to have that lovely cover. So finished it, was it worth it........ HELLL YEAH!! This was for me the best Titan book to date we have had, so much that, I really am considering doing a warlord titan in the colours of Pallidus Mor. Great action, great rivalrie between the two rival legios. Loved the very different style of titan legion ware fare that the two legios adopt. I mean the imperial Hunters were jerks yeah, but I can see why they were the way they were. The Pallidus Mor leader Rezoc was simply the right kind of 40k fatalism you can expect from a titan legion that has to deal with the increasing amount of crap they have to contend with, I really liked that during the Horus Heresy they were part of the iron warriors crusading force and you an see why that is the case, in how they operate. Davids approach of showing the titans from different perspectives was really well executed and I can see little nods to Gav Thorpes excellent Honor to the Dead and Dans Abnetts epic Titanicus. Now I have been a huge fan of Davids version of chaos since his chilling depictions in the Horus heresy novel Damnation of Pythos and he delivers yet again another version of chaos that is truly horrifying to witness with half sliced off faces screaming bloody murder! If I had one gripe it would be the enemy titans they really did not standout so much as the loyalist ones. The stakes were very high but they lacked any real protagonist all we got was a converted 66th soldier, which for me was not enough. You could argue that the Protagonist was the setting for when the titans march to war nothing stands in there way be it Chaos, Tyranids or even the cities of the imperium. True - but not even close to the awesome Titanicus. And what about Carrion Throne? Chapter Master Valrak
Nearly finished with Warlord now, then onto the Carrion throne. For people who've read Carrion Throne, does it have an Eisenhorn vibe to it? Sandlemad
Nearly finished with Warlord now, then onto the Carrion throne. For people who've read Carrion Throne, does it have an Eisenhorn vibe to it? Just finished it and yes, overall. It's smaller and more localised on Terra, and it doesn't have a 1st person narrator like Eisenhorn, which makes it maybe less intimate, though the main characters are good and there are supporting characters that are sure to become Aemos- or Unwerth-style fan favourites. Most of the characters are more obviously religious than Eisenhorn and his crew, mind. The same political stuff is there. Unlike Eisenhorn, though, it has this end of the 41st millennium feeling. General pessimism and desperation, both in the plot and the ambience. Lots of contrast between the glorious edifice of the palace and other monuments lit by the setting sun, and the horrible things that are happening. The high society elements are stretched and more weighed down by history. There's a bit where a main character looks out a balcony and grimaces, thinking that there hasn't been any new significant temples built on Terra in four millennia; everything is venerated and preserved but it's all they can do. Yes and no. It tries to be Eisenhorn but ends up being a hybrid of genres. As for the 'General pessimism and desperation, both in the plot and the ambience.' kind of the less of all the Inqusition books probably except for the Ravenor. Plus put in before the GS events. Mellow
I have finally finished The Carrion Throne. A joyful novel set no where near the bolter porn section and looking at much more normal human life. A particular favourite part for me was someone noting the name of a book as being "My wish to generate children with you is only exceeded by my devotion to Him" That made me chuckle! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330523-what-are-peoples-thoughts-on-warlord-and-the-carrion-throne/page/4/#findComment-4732750 Share on other sites
