Hergrmir
Hey all. So I've jumped in along with some folks at my local to do some 30k hobbying and painting. It has been an age since I last had actual Space Marine models, and I'm wondering if anyone has advice on what to do regarding BA for 30k. Obviously there's the FW MkIV upgrades, so I figure a box of B@C and those would be a start. How about the rest of the 40k plastics? I don't know if the DC and Tactical boxes come with enough pre-MkVII bits to make them worthwhile or not - I'm not SUPER fussed about having none - especially since the Blood Angels were at Terra and so might be justified in having a few suits of MkVII - but I'd really like at least my infantry to not just look like a 40k army. Maybe I'd be better off with a BoP box since the MkIII is even more distinctive... With vehicles I'll probably go with Mars-pattern, since the FW upgrades are too pricey for my estimation, though I'll eventually splurge on some Contemptors when they make some BA ones. Thanks for any advice! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330585-advice-on-modelling-30k-blood-angels/ Share on other sites
Robzilla
Hey! First off, welcome to the Heresy train! Fair warning, it tends to consume your hobby a wee bit. I've toyed with the idea of blood angels, so hope my insights help a bit... I personally think the helmets from the forgeworld kits are amongst the best they have done in the heresy range. Very simple designs, but there is a beauty to them, so yes, definitely pick some up! The 40k bits are simply too good an opportunity for themed parts to squander. Personally, what I would do, would be to pick up a ton of parts from ebay, If you aren't adverse to that? Things like pouches, grenades, weapons, and maybe even boaters that aren't too overt. This would provide a good spread of flavour for your units. The sanguinary guard helms look ace on characters, or terminators too! As for a start for your force, one of each of calth and prosperous give you a healthy mix of armour marks and marines, and stops the force looking too uniform. Id trade out some stuff to bring one of the terminator squads to 10 men mind, just to keep the numbers up too! Min sized squads don't survive long. Hope that helps! marine7312000
To build on what was said above, I'd pick up a box of Sanguinary guard (SG) and Death company (DC). If you then spread the bits out over an army of models the newer patterns aren't as noticeable. Plus I personally think SG torsos are ideal for artificer armour, mainly because they are in 40K.
