Guilliman in Successor Color Schemes?

Recommended Posts

I've already preorderd Guilliman, even though I have no practical use for him in any of my armies. I don't want to paint him in bog-standard Ultramarines colors because that will make it so any army I eventually expand from him will be bog-standard Ultramarines. Are there any successors that stand out to you guys as especially interesting? Do you think it could work, compositionally?

Don't follow the logic. RG to me would be in His legion colors and any successor would happily follow him regardless. But, your hobby etc.

To me he could be a good excuse to build an UM army with units in various schemes from successors rallying to macrage as rob rampages thru ultramar.

But everyone is gonna paint their Guilliman in Ultramarines colors. I gotta distinguish mine somehow. And I can't convert outside kitbashing, so I gotta go with other color schemes. I'm drifting towards Sons of Orar.

Yeah, I'd keep him in UM colors, however my first army was Genesis chapter. The ultramarine models are particularly cool looking in red, although some are hard to convert the symbol for.

If I ever did ultra successors again, I'd probably do either Marines Errant, or Fire Angels. Both have really cool fluff, and color schemes.

The idea of the big guy in silver with red trim is pretty interesting, even if it seems unlikely he'd adopt any colors but his own.

Totally the Sons of Orar. When I saw the question, that's immediately what came to mind. I think it would look awesome in the red and white, with the sword done in green flame.

Oh dude, green flames? You speak my language. I think that's what I'll go for, because I also love painting red for than any other color.

This has me in a state of indecision too (not that that is unusual with colour schemes...). It makes sense that he should be in UM colours, but he'd look cool in others too. I wonder if the lore in the book might help set a precedent? Would he repaint himself, or would he just shrug and think "These are my sons, just not in blue so it doesn't matter"?

"He looks better in red." -R. Tam

But I also say that because I've never really been a fan of the blue+gold color combo - red+gold looks great; blue+silver or blue+black looks good as well, but blue+gold isn't something I've been a fan of.

As for other successors...though I'd love to see it, I don't think there's enough exposed plain power armor to make a halved or quartered scheme look good rather than just too busy.

So my complete fabrication fan fiction on the matter is this: Guilliman understands what a huge deal his return is not just for the Imperium, but specifically for the successor Chapters of the Ultramarines. He asks that Cawl install some kind of imager in the armor itself that allows his armor to take on the colors of whatever successor he fights alongside on their drive to Terra. I think Cawl can manage that, personally.
