Thoughts on running an ABG primary with Elysian allies?

So I like tanks and I also like air. It's tricky to fit all the toys I want into a 2k-ish list without glaring weaknesses. Would an Armoured Battlegroup consisting of tanks and a bit of artillery work with Elysian allies in Valkyries?

Maybe 5-6 Russes, a couple of artillery pieces, and possibly ABG vets in Chimeras (although its expensive for only 5 pairs of boots...) with an Elysian CCS, 2x Vet squads in Valkyries, and a Vendetta in support?

Thoughts?

It would work, but you'd need to think about how they're combine. Elysians would want to drop in here and there with the Valkyries, so artillery and the larger blast Russ variants would need to be careful not to hit them. This can be done easily enough by controlling target selection, or you can go for the smaller blast/direct fire Russes. For example Wyverns are accurate and will help you deal with infantry which a Vet build will struggle with :)

Maybe out of place for me to comment as I have no experience with the ABG or Elysians, but I generally run a mechanised, Russ and artillery (3x Wyverns, occasionally a Basilisk) heavy AM army with allied Militarum Tempestus. It works well and covers most corners in friendly and semi-competitive games. I'd agree with the above, as Elysians can deep strike in. That's what I do with my MT... Suicide melta and plasma five-man units to pop heavy armour and grab objectives. I've tried similar lists with fliers and it felt kinda clunky.

In general, and by my understanding of the armies without having played them myself, it should work quite well as you can cover a multitude of roles.

What concerns me the outdated rules resulting in overpriced models and units for what they're capable of at the moment. Aside from the odd perk like Beast Hunter Shells in the ABG, you're paying a lot more for the equivalent list out of Codex: AM. The other thing is the lack of stable AM units from the current codex unavailable in the Imperial Armour book, namely Knight Commander Pask (in a Punisher, of course), and Wyverns. Arguable the two most competitive options in our codex!

That's actually a pretty good idea. MT deepstriking onto a forward Demolisher/Hellhound with an Augur Array could work well at causing some chaos in the lines while the main body rumbles up. I might still throw in a Vendetta in case they miraculously survive and need to get somewhere else.

You're right about the ABG stuff too, Wyvern fills a good niche that isn't really covered by the ABG.
