SM1981
Thinking of buying some of these to try out on a squad of landspeeders I need to paint up. 2 questions: 1) Has anyone used them before, and what are the results like / would you recommend? 2) I don't have an airbrush, and don't intend to buy one any time soon. As these are self adhesive (according to the product description) would a can of white spray / a large traditional brush get the same effect, or is there something intrinsically different about how an air brush lays down paint that would make these for airbrush use only? Sorry if that's a silly question, but I have literally zero knowledge of that world. http://www.fallouthobbies.com/stencils Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330708-decal-stencils/ Share on other sites
Tyriks
That seems to be a faulty URL. I'm getting sent to a web hosting service. Could just be my phone though. LutherMax
Airbrush lays down very fine layers of paint, making it ideal for masking, stencils etc, but you could certainly use spray paint and even a normal brush. If you use a normal brush, make sure the paint is completely dry and peel the stencil very slowly and carefully to avoid messing up the edge. Which one(s) were you thinking of getting? SM1981
I was gong to go got the "Wings Airbrush Stencil" set first, but if they worked out OK also get the "Vehicle Squad Airbrush Stencil", the "Vehicle Tear Drops", and the "Caution Stripes Airbrush Stencil". Xenith
Very interesting, thanks for the link! Any bleed from these underthe stencil I'm sure could be tidied easily. Are they one use only? LutherMax
I bought some custom decals from these guys (for Gerantius). The quality was excellent but postage from the States is a bit killer. SM1981
It says multiple use if you clean / handle gently. I imagine the problem would be the adhesive on the back losing its stick and causing leak. That is complete conjecture though. LutherMax
One bit of advice - varnish the model before you lay down the stencil. I'm sure the adhesive is good quality and low tack, but I have had issues with masking tape taking paint off in the past (even specialist hobby tape like Tamiya).
