Bedouin2
Hello All, So I've been working on a project for some months now and ran into a couple of roadblocks. A while back I abandoned a project to create a SM army of a good size to play, got over 30 tactical marines nearly finished... lost interest in that cause I can't seem to dedicate my time to just a single chapter. I read about all these awesome chapters out there and I wanted to do something about them. So I've stripped most of the marines I was working on and now have started painting each one a different chapter to display. At least two chapters from each 1st founding, and some that peak my interest. Two of the chapters I'm not really sure on how to achieve their colors. One of them is the Mantis Warriors. Now I'm thinking maybe Moot Green with Biel-Tan Green shaded over it, or perhaps Warboss Green, it looks close? The other is the Sons of Medusa. Again I'm thinking Skarsnik Green, it looks like it's close to their color but I'm not 100% about it. I mostly use Citadel paints (very easy for me to get a hold of), but I'm not against using other brands, but I have no experience with others such as Vallejo, Army Painter, etc etc. So if anyone knows how to achieve the colors with other brands would be appreciated. I'm real big with the lore of 40k, so I want the models to be as close to what the art for them and any other official representation there is for the chapters I'm working on. Major_Gilbear
There isn't really an "exact" colour for each chapter really - for example, even the though Citadel Painting Guide tells you to you X-Y-Z colours to paint your Ultramarines with, in reality they've changed quite a few times over the years, and most hobbyists and publications use whatever colour blue they happen to like the look of. It's the same with all the other chapters (and models in general) too. What I would say is that if you are only painting one or two models from any particular Chapter, you would do just as well to mix a colour yourself rather than buy a whole pot of paint. For example, if you want a darker green, you can try adding either a little blue (for a deeper colder green), a little red or brown (for a muddier green), or a little purple (for a deeper and darker green). Likewise if you want a brighter green for your Sons of Medusa, try adding a little white or light grey tot he green to make it a more pastel-colour, or adding a little yellow to make it warmer, or adding a little green or turquoise to make it deeper and more intense. As long as you keep a note of the paint ratios somewhere (for example: "Mantis Green. Two drops of X Green plus one drop of Y Grey", then it's dead easy to replicate in future if you want to. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330799-suggestions-on-how-to-achieve-a-couple-of-colors/#findComment-4651127 Share on other sites
