Brother Aiwass
This paint scheme appeared in the news section, and looks ace. http://i.imgur.com/PgtrzPe.jpg I want to use that scheme for my blackshields. It looks simple, but something bothers me. I can't tell if it's a weathered mid grey or a very dull metal (the main armor, shoulderpads looks like eshin grey with a light black wash). Any ideas on how to achieve the main color? Any tip will be nice. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330843-field-police-paint-scheme/ Share on other sites
Major_Gilbear
You could mix a dark-ish grey and a silver to get a dull lead-like colour? Some small "scratchy" feathered highlights, a little plain dark grey/black sponged on sparingly, some brown-orange streaks using a wash around rivets and such, some oily wash in the recesses, and then a final very thin crisp highlight here and there with a little light grey (or silver if you prefer) to pick out the faceplate and the most raised areas. I know mixing metallic paints with regular paints isn't very common, but I've done it a lot and it's actually a great way to achieve these sorts of half-way schemes. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330843-field-police-paint-scheme/#findComment-4651836 Share on other sites
Brother Aiwass
Thanks major. Will keep this for further use. The only time I mixed metal colors with non metal was to make a dark boltgun metal (which was chaos black & boltgun metal 50/50) but the result, even ok-ish, didn't ended as expected. I hate the metals because is difficult to make them to look like the real deal instead of painted plastic (however, later on I achieved some good results following a tutorial from Apologist) so I'm going to test it when I can :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330843-field-police-paint-scheme/#findComment-4651872 Share on other sites
Major_Gilbear
The nice thing about mixing them is that you can play with the reflectivity as well as the colour - so matte shadows and more reflective highlights for example. This means that even on a more even colour, as long as you shade and highlight a little to make use of the different finishes, you can get distinct yet subtle effects. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330843-field-police-paint-scheme/#findComment-4651879 Share on other sites
Dagoth Ur
I replicated that paint scheme in my Horus Heresy thread, I'll be drafting up a tutorial later. I went with a dark grey and the trim I did in dark iron, with some silver chipping over the whole figure. Hope that helps for now :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330843-field-police-paint-scheme/#findComment-4652526 Share on other sites
