Bloody Legionnaire
I've bought quite a few phobos chain axes for my World Eaters legion and I've realized they are quite flimsy and bend easily. I've thought about trying to pin them but I don't know how much I trust myself with drilling a hole straight enough through the bottom of the grip. Does anyone have any tips for trying to strengthen these chain axes? apologist
If you're not confident in drilling through the core of the axe haft, you can completely replace the haft itself. Trim away the axe head and handle, then substitute brass rod in its place – essentially using it as a pin that remains visible. This approach will give you very sturdy models, and require less precision in drilling. Of course, you still need to drill into the head and handle, and you'll need to prime carefully (to avoid the brass showing), but you'll never need to worry about the axes bending or breaking – plus genuine brass axe hafts is Khornate to the max. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330947-reinforcing-fw-phobos-chain-axe/#findComment-4654635 Share on other sites

That's an excellent idea! definitely hadn't thought about doing that, thank you! I attempted to drill all the way through from the bottom yesterday but didn't line up with the haft at all unfortunately. Guiltysparc
I have about 30 of them on my heresy army and haven't had any break after being assembled. They have been packed in and out of KR foam cases a few times as well. Major_Gilbear
I agree with Apologist; replacement of the haft is best and easiest. Failing that, you could use something like the Vanguard Veteran Thunder Hammer arms (or whatever other weapons really - there are lots of suitable arms in various SM kits!), and just simply cut off the hammer below the energy generator and then pin the head of the FW chain axe on. That's pretty easy, sturdy, and you can use quite a thin pin too. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330947-reinforcing-fw-phobos-chain-axe/#findComment-4654925 Share on other sites

That's more what I'm worried about. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330947-reinforcing-fw-phobos-chain-axe/#findComment-4656581 Share on other sites
