GrandMagnus
How would you go about painting dark/black metal armour. Now I'm not talking black armour as in black painted power armour. I mean the kind of armour you would see on chaos warrior artwork, for example. So how would you go about painting something like that? Major_Gilbear
Here and here! :) Really though, you just mix a little silver into some black paint, highlight with a little sliver, and then lightly wash with a little thinned blue and black ink. This gives you a metallic black that's quite forgiving to paint and still looks good against the typical metal trims you see on 40k Chaos Marines. KhorneHunter57x
It might not be exactly what you have in mind, but my go-to for metallic black is Vallejo's Model Air Black metallic. Evil Eye
Take the darkest metal you've got (I mostly stick to GeeDubs so in my case it's Leadbelcher). Coat it with a clear black/smoke colour (in my case either FW Deathshroud or Tamiya Clear Smoke). Result: Shiny but very dark metal. Huzzah! The Mad Hermit
I use Reaper Master Series Blackened Steel... or I mix a little black into Leadbelcher/Boltgun Metal/Whatever It Is Now. I actually use it a lot in my fantasy stuff for the hafts of Dwarven axes and such with the axe-heads being regular Leadbelcher. OK, I'll try that too, thanks :) Metallics have always been my bane :P But I'm gradually getting better and trying new things.
