H311fi5h
Has anyone experimented with the Castellans of the Imperium Detachment with mostly Astra Militarum units? Seeing how most Astra Militarum formations kinda suck (with a few exceptions) or are very restrictive (thinking of Cadian Battle Group with minimum 170 models) the Castellans look rather interesting. Not sure how useful hatred is though (if I want to build a nasty CC unit I'll bring a priest anyway). The respawning part appears to be what matters. And if you don't mind clone wars, you can bring Coteaz for obsec. How would you do it? A flood of cheap footslogging infantry? Vets in Chimeras? Jacinda
I haven't thought much about it yet, to be honest. Not in a straight Guard perspective. I have looked at it from a Sisters and Guard mix sice I play them allied together often. Castellans lets me put them under one banner. As far as Coteaz and obsec, just what all would that help for you? Bulgryns, Ogryns and Scions taken from the AM book? Vets and Infantry Platoons would already have obsec if you take a normal CAD. That's kind of my opinion if you are wanting to use CotI for strictly guard. While it doesn't hinder you like some of the formations will and Hatred is always a welcome addition it really doesn't blow me over, either. Still, if you have objectives near your table edge where slow moving respawns can reach them, it does have it's benifits. If you are going to take Coteaz anyway for IBEY, why not put them all in a Castellians detachment? I think the point of Castellians is to make the old Imperium Clown Car force easier to achieve. They more different options you take for each role they better the overall whole. Guard to cut down hordes, power armor for forward objective grabbers, terminators for assaults, take your pick for air support ... in other words decide what your army needs to do and take the best unit across all codices for each particular task. WarriorFish
I agree with Jacinda, it's not something I feel is for Guard directly - best to create a crusade force for a mix of forces. The bonuses aren't that great for Guard so they'll likely not be high on the list for Castellans of the Imperium lists... H311fi5h
I was thinking in the line of: If I plan to play CAD I might just as well take the Castellans with Coteaz and get get the respawning Troops for free. An example: Coteaz CCS in Chimera Vets in Chimera Vets in Chimera Vets in Chimera Vets in Chimera That's <900 points with some equipment. You have 8 units that respawn on a 5+. The obvious alternative is the Emperor's Blade Formation that I like to run. Gives PE against units within 6" of objectives. Is that better than respawning troops? Idk. I don't have any other armies right now, so I'm not really looking at the detachment from the perspective of mixing (although it could be a nice way to field new units if I decide to start another army of the imperium). zero88
Since you can move and disembark farther from a Taurox, how about spamming a lot of these: Veterans: 3x Meltaguns (or 2x and a HF), Demolitions, Taurox = 170pts Then watch tears flow as you chuck respawning (and hopefully ignores cover) AP2 demo charges left and right Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331178-castellans-of-the-imperium-and-astra-militarum/#findComment-4662812 Share on other sites
