Saturnyne Rams

I think it's a great idea. As far as I'm aware, references to Saturn are few and far between – but wonderfully juicy and evocative when they do turn up!

In terms of colour scheme, I don't think there's anything official (though happy to be corrected on that). Personally, I'd look into cultural associations of Saturn as a starting point, as there's a rich seam there. In addition, it can tie in with the four humours theory. We hear a lot about choleric Astartes, so why not saturnine auxilia?

According to the pseudoscience of humouralism, the melancholic disposition was associated with the planet Saturn, seen as gloomy and despondent. There's some fun reading here.

Black is an obvious starting point, but it's also very common in 30k. I'd suggest looking deeper, at the 'bones, gristle and sinews' of melancholy (see earlier link). Those suggest to me a sombre palette of ivory, tan and brown-grey, which would be a great muted colour scheme. If you want to add a splash of contrast, turquoise accents (eye lenses, targetting devices etc.) would go well, and perhaps gunmetal plate – dark enough for associations with black and to contrast with light tan and ivory, but not dead.

The Saturnyne Rams were the original 1st to 10th Solar Auxilia cohorts. There symbol matches the colours described in Praetorian of Dorn.

The Rams appear in Praetorian of Dorn. This is the only info I could find on their colours: “On their shoulders, the heraldry of the Saturnyne Rams Second Solar Auxilia Cohort sat on its white-and-blue field.”

Excerpt From: John French. “Praetorian of Dorn.” iBooks.
This is their heraldry.
Also, if you just do a quick search online you'll be able to find their Wiki.

That's a pretty interesting take, and I didn't think about that, honestly. I will most certainly have to do some research into that and more historic/mythological beliefs of Saturn.

Whe the pre-Vulkan Salamanders used the Saturnine Ram as their heraldic device, they wore lighter green plate, with a yellow symbol. Not that the auxillia would directly match, but something to consider.

I thought about that, but I'm really not a fan of Salamanders... Vulkan or not.

I am already pretty well versed in the Ram's fluff, or what has already been released about them in books such as HH 4 Conquest and a few examples here and there. I asked about their colors, which there was no definite information on save that singular picture you linked from Conquest which shows a vague dark blue background.

That quote, however, is entirely new to me, as I haven't read Praetorian of Dorn. Only just finished Master of Mankind not long ago. Is there any other info on the Rams in that book?
