Inquisitors working together (Fluff question)

Is there any fluff reason why a bunch of inquisitors would work together? Basically what I'm asking, is taking multiple Inquisitor henchmen warbands in any way fluffy, or is it purely cheese?

At most I could see 2 working together easily. A cultist group wants to summon daemons, so you have Mallus and Hereticus working together. If they have an alien leading them you could maybe get a Xenos onboard. Or a genestealer cult comes up prompting a response from Hereticus and Xenos.

Mostly I'm looking for a fluff reason to run my monkeys of doom list. rolleyesclean.gif

Yes there's no reason they can't work together to accomplish a larger goal. Conclaves are often made up of Inquisitors who pledge allegiance to different ordos to share specialisations. Is star port workers smuggling genestealers into an Imperial city purely a matter for the Ordo Xenos, or is it Heresy too if the Governor is taking a bribe? The Eisenhorn series features a few team ups, usually at the conclusion of an investigation, or a moment of import, though there are as many rivalries as alliances.

You can have the alliance between your Inquisitors be benign, (perhaps a Lord Inquisitor and his apprentices or subordinates) mutually beneficial, of convenience or even have one of them come along to make sure the others don't get too close to his secret... All this has no effect on the tabletop however.

Day to day it might not make sense to have 3 Inquisitors with huge retinues roaming around in one place, but the tabletop game is about the most elite and rare forces fighting to the death, so nothing can be 'too rare' really.

Great.

Just read about the Triantine Cabal of inquisitors working together on a more or less permanent basis.

I'd like to represent some of the minor orders as well. I think it could easily be done with acolytes.

  • Ordo Astartes inquisitors whose acolytes have power armor, plasma, and hot shot las guns to help purge disloyal Astartes. They need power armor to stop bolt guns. Lots of AP3 to fight marines. Death cult assassins to fight marines in close.
  • Ordo Militum guys tailored to fight the Imperial Guard. Carapace armor is good enough to stop flash lights. High volume of fire / template weapons for the regular soldiers and melta special weapons for the tanks.
  • Ordo Sepulturum guys with flamers and storm bolters to fight plague zombies. Don't really need armor at all because they can shoot the zombies from far enough away. Storm bolters for volume of fire. These guys could also represent an anti-tyranid force. Give the inquisitor a needle pistol for fighting monstrous creatures. Could also double as an anti-ork force.
  • Ordo Sicarius inquisitors accompanied by death cult assassins, crusaders, and allied Assinorium assassins.

etc.

It's also quite possible that multiple Inquisitors all happened to end up investigating the same case, and decided to work together instead of having their investigations mess each other up.  Remember the Inquisition is a bunch of Independent contractors... so it's not like there's a central office to make sure you don't have people all in the same area :)

If you want fluff about inquisitors, read Eisenhorn and Ravenor books.

You can see there inquisitors working together on several occasions.

Eisenhorn has a large retinue of henchmen in the last book.

There is also Interrogators, which are basically Inquisitors in training and will often work directly with the Inquisitor they train under. In addition, Lord Inquisitors sometimes have a pseudo jurisdiction over an entire sector (see Coteaz). With that kind of control, other Inquisitors will, at least to SOME degree, follow his/her lead. Obviously they don't HAVE to, and some refuse to, but hey, you don't become Lord Inquisitor by being not awesome and scary at your job.
