Reviler
Hi all, I am starting this thread to showcase my new Imperial Guard army and it's struggles on the field in these dark days for the Imperium. I've decided to go straight in the deep end and do a full 2000pts armoured and mechanised force chosen from the Cadian decurion style list. I'm mostly a painted these days, though I do play regularly. I like to have a fluffy, but at least semi competitive list. I hope this falls into this style, at least for friendly games. The list is basically a HQ of a company command, a core of the Emperirs fist armoured formation with five Leman Russ tanks and an Emperors blade assault company with a single hellhound. The points are finished off with a Adaptus Astra telepathica division to add a little psykic support. The back ground for the Regiment and it's home planet will follow, but the name comes from the old Saxon name of my town. It's also mentioned in the 'Knights of the Round table' legend. Points for guessing it? The style of the army is a realistic paint job, well for a Sci-fi army. With deep green colour for the bulk of the tanks. It takes a while to do, but can be easily batch painted and this is what i did for all the tanks. I made all eleven tanks straight off the bat and it was a heavy work load. To date i have completed the chimeras from the assault company and a Leman Russ. I have also done five test models for the forces infantry. I plan to use Anvil Industries models. I'm just not sure about their special weapons, but that will come later. First tanks! http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/AA6A79C9-7FFE-453C-BCFA-5397560A21E2.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/980783E6-178E-42EF-AC95-CA6C9265595D.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/86CB3838-345F-4085-9431-329F805A93A3.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/08AE6E7D-B577-44EC-8476-58035828A85A_1.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/947CCF43-FDC2-49D0-9BD0-2BC81E4BB869.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331294-astolat-352nd-armoured/ Share on other sites

Reviler
Thanks for all the comments. The green is a labour of love involving seven steps, but it does give a realistic finish. Two more leman russ up later. Game on Monday. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331294-astolat-352nd-armoured/#findComment-4666068 Share on other sites
The Mad Hermit
As has already been said: the green on the tanks and fliers is very, very good. I'd dare say it's perfect. Reviler
Here are the two Lemon Russ i promised, along side the one I had already done. The two new ones are still a couple of steps away from finished, the metal highlights and the black/grey bits. Also the transfers. But they looked good after i stuck the tracks on so I took a picture. The picks are a little washed out with light i'm afraid http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/A77BD2A2-328C-4608-B35B-3D1E5C5D611C.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/E2507FCA-D669-47EF-BC33-444AAC0F839D_1.jpg I have my first game with them tomorrow so i'll do a little report, post my list and have the completed Russ' for you on tuesday evening. Reviler
Well as I had my first game with this army last night and it was a good learning curve. I'm not used to having to protect tanks and made a few rookie mistakes about protecting them. But before I dive straight into the report and brass tacks here are some pictures of the finished Leman Russ' and my list. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/80BCDF6E-FCAD-48B0-BB10-AD68FA97A22C.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/27C02FAB-AEDF-43D9-A377-F176D2242EA3.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/3D1C57D7-EA07-4A01-ACBE-81B3EA542CCB.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/F71D39FE-1946-4F95-B160-092CD2B41C49.jpg My list as as follows Cadian battle group formation Battle group command - company command squad - 4 melta, chimera with dozer blade Emperors fist armoured company 2 vanquishers with las cannon and MM sponsons Exicutioner 2 leman russ battle tanks Enginseer Assault company Company command -4 melta, power fist 2 vet squads - 2 melta and HF 1 vet squad - 3 plasma Helhound Adaptus astra telepathica division Astropath Primaris psyker My opponent played a tratior legion army, black legion theme he had the following: Daemon price of Nurgle with wings, level 2 2 squads of possessed in rhinos Renegade knight Maulerfiend 6 nurgle bikers 2 squads of cultists 3 terminators helldrake with auto cannon 5 raptors We played Big guns mission with vanguard deployment http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/AC1062B2-9C6D-4A5E-858A-B9E323FE20FC.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/DDD2A6AE-6B03-496A-81F4-E9B494D1175A.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/CCD8F9A5-7015-45FE-878C-4995574089D4.jpg Turn 1 I advanced (foolishly) on all fronts. I should of held the centre back. I took off half the hull points on knight and killed most of the bikers. My battle group command goes down and the helldrake gets around the back of the tanks and shoots them up. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/Battle%20report/594002B0-2E31-44DA-B454-DA3DF0EECBB4.jpg Turn five sees the end of the game on a roll of a two. One more turn could of seen me push on to victory, thats the way the cookie crumbles. The MVP was the daemon prince, with MoN he has a 2+ cover save and he got endurance and iron arm. I just could dispell iron arm and this meant he was T8 as well. Even with the ignores cover order I just couldn't do damage to him. I have learned a lesson on what to deploy against what and bubble wrapping tanks with infantry. Looking forwad to my next game in a couple of weeks. Maybe it was just playing with a non completed army and proxy infantry. I angered the dice god! We I plan to do the vanquishers next and enginseer. Won't be long, stay tuned. WarriorFish
Lovely table and armies :tu: Starting out always has you learning how things work, so the only way is up :) Tanks are fragile in combat especially to anything strong like MCs so positioning is essential as is running support. Tallarn Commander
Thanks for the excellent battle report. Both armies are well painted. Yeah, chaos also tends to rip my tanks to shreds unless I bubble wrap them. You'll do better once you have a screen of expendable ground pounders in front. Reviler
I've finished, nearly actually as the tank commander has a couple of bits to do on him, the two vanquishers. That is the all the leman russ tanks complete, Yeah! Just the chimera and hellhound to do with the enginseer to finish the vehicle side of the army. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/1C824F9B-0BDF-4C3D-992B-B8311E255377.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/7E91D357-D024-4EDA-9694-E7712987C742.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/AD3E9B65-A053-45A5-86A5-D56AC7F1A159.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/655103E8-4894-4D3E-9283-86FC261845AE.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331294-astolat-352nd-armoured/#findComment-4673963 Share on other sites

Reviler
I've completed the final two tanks tonight, Numbers 10 and 11. It started and fun, but as always with painting multiple things in the same way, it got a little bit like a chore. I'm looking forward to doing the infantry now. My first batch turned up today from Anvil industries. They take me to twenty of them. I've also got the astropath and primaris psyker too. Assembly started this evening. Pics tomorrow. I also have another game on Monday so hopefully better luck this time. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/9AC07046-F656-449D-A163-3AEAEFEB5B9F.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/87A5B6F7-7817-4FFC-8EE4-218DF10D773B.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/B2914FA3-0564-4959-B8A8-AA68FB5C0013.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331294-astolat-352nd-armoured/#findComment-4680086 Share on other sites
slowclinic
I know that feeling all too well. I was painting 13 assorted tanks in one go, all with a temperamental came pattern... Apparently it was like watching a production line. They're looking fantastic though. Very good work. Reviler
Thank you for the support guys. I just checked the dates from starting and i've been painting at quite a speed. Scary! I've had a couple of evenings hobby time this weekend as my wife and oldest daughter are away. Using this time as best I could around my youngest sleeping ive managed to paint the Astropath and assemble 8 of the 15 infantry i bought. Stupidly I didn't order enough arms to assemble the other 7. I also need the special weapons for them. I started by trying the special weapons from the BaC box. The plasma's look okay so have stuck with them but the meltas are massive. I either going to get the Kromlech or Mad Robot Miniatures ones. I also need a heavy flamer option. Any ideas? I have a game tomorrow and will stick with the same list. I'll get that up mid week and a progress painting update end of week Here is a army shot as well. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/0B3BA3A1-BFBB-49F7-8C11-1FDDFE177C6B.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/2AB6F2CA-4C92-4CDD-AD50-1825BDAE2E8D.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/40DCAC3E-9DFF-45CA-86BB-CCA0C08B4732.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/E9738022-A2D5-47A5-9272-6B8AA25705A4.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/82C58099-FCC6-4B44-A9DB-4DD24BF74E37.jpg http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r247/Wissenlander/drop%20troops/B2A41175-97D3-4563-9DAC-41463FDC40E9.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331294-astolat-352nd-armoured/#findComment-4681403 Share on other sites
Tallarn Commander
Reviler, your army is coming along nicely. I especially like how you've shaded your green. With regard to your heavy flamer question, perhaps you could try coverting some of your Chimera or Russ heavy flamers into infantry heavy flamers? Reviler
Its been a while since I've updated this post, since pre 8th actually. I've been busy on the force none the less, needed to convert the force to 8th optimisation. He is what i've been working on, a Hydra/Wvyern, depending on what is needed. A cheap part of a brigade formation. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331294-astolat-352nd-armoured/#findComment-4982490 Share on other sites
