Battlefleet Gothic - Worth It?

Pretty straightforward. I just got my steam account kicking after a long hiatus, and I am wondering how the game is generally perceived these days. Is it a quality product? Is there a a decent sized base of players?

I've not played it in a little while, but it is a very pretty and very cool game.

 

It's oozing with 40k goodness and the campaign is super fun with a great story and nice voice acting - all of the major players are in it too (Imperial Navy, Marines, Ad Mech, Navigators, Orks, Eldar, Chaos).

 

The Space Marines and Tau DLC are sweet and there are more and more coming :)

 

Takes a little while to get the hang of controlling everything but once you get the strategies down it's really deep and rewarding.

I certainly like the game. It is nice to get in a game once in a while, and a game does not last that long either, so as a sweet distraction, I love it...and when I can get my mate to log on and play as well, it is even better.

This is my first fleet based strategy game. I can tell it's a good game but I can't help but think how terrible I am at the game when i play the game on normal/ironman mode.

Keep in mind, I never played the original tabletop game. So, I have no idea how that would affect your opinion. That said, I'm addicted to it. I love how you are slowly building and customizing your fleet as you try to survive the 12th Black Crusade. Love how you are constantly trying to keep the sector free from corruption, xenos, and exterminatus as you try to rake in power and resources to strengthen your fleet.

 

So, I highly recommend it.

I'll echo this. The campaign is beautifully gothic and seeing the little council of Imperium personnel is awesome.

 

Also the big name bad guys and interactions with enemy commanders are very on point.

 

There is nothing like telling an Eldar to stuff it (after he warns you that you can only take down Chaos together) and instantly broadsiding his capital ship into a million tiny screaming soul stone fragments.

Outside of the campaign, the game is a hot mess at the moment.

Major faction imbalances, a serious lack of communication from the developers (the last update was November, fyi) and bugs that have been present since the game was first released lead to a game that's, at best, mediocre. Add on top that the game is still being sold for full price and it's really not worth it.

Great game. Not really super balanced, but still more than the original Battlefleet Gothic; Great graphics, cool customization, awesome campaign.

So the game isn't dead as of yet, the developers confirmed that they're working on something big. Made a video on the subject

well, I'm stoked for whatever expansion it is
