gabriel5885
Hi everyone! Just a quick tip, recently I've made a rtv silicon moulds to copy a few bases in resin(Always for my personal use). But even more recently I've found out that the best way to reuse the plastic sprues is to melt them with mek and pour the plastic into the mould, after half a day I can demould them and I have new based that can be used in one or two days. DistroyA
Intriguing. How do you melt the plastic down without burning it? I'm thinking if I can manage to do that, I might not have to buy as much resin. Also, how do you put the plastic in the mould? A simple pour, or via injection? Brother-Chaplain Kage
MEK melts the plastic. My brother, who is a much better scratch builder than me, sometimes uses it in place of plastic cement to bond pieces of sheet plastic together. The vapors are pretty harsh so make sure you use it in a well-ventilated area. DistroyA
Just had to look up what MEK is. Lol. I think I'll have to look into getting hold of some. Thanks. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331471-a-tip-of-sorts/#findComment-4669291 Share on other sites
DistroyA
Apologies for the double post, but something was brought up on a 40k group on Facebook; would MEK dissolve the rtv silicone mould? Strata
As someone who works around MEK on a daily basis at work, if you are going to use it, please be careful with it. Ventilation is a must, as are gloves and eye protection. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331471-a-tip-of-sorts/#findComment-4674202 Share on other sites
