themortalgod
I'm working on a large terrain project that will use a LOT of Nuln Oil, I was wondering if anyone knows of any similar product on the market that is a bit more "bulk" than the small GW pots? Stoic Raptor
Long before Nuln Oil/Badab Black, we used to just use black ink. Mix it with glaze medium if you don't want it so strong. brettfp
On other larger projects I have just gotten generic black acrylic paint and heavily watered it down for use as a wash. Depending on what your doing with it it should work just fine :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331601-bulk-alternative-to-nuln-oil/#findComment-4672647 Share on other sites

I remember those days, I also remember ink drying a bit shinier than wash and never liking it. ;) On other larger projects I have just gotten generic black acrylic paint and heavily watered it down for use as a wash. Depending on what your doing with it it should work just fine Iv had a few people recommend that, but I've found that it doesn't seap into the cracks like GW washes do. It just puts a watered down layer of paint evenly over the surface? Jarkaira
Just add something that breaks the surface tension and it won't cover it evenly. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331601-bulk-alternative-to-nuln-oil/#findComment-4673019 Share on other sites
Stoic Raptor
I remember those days, I also remember ink drying a bit shinier than wash and never liking it. Once it's topcoated with varnish, that doesn't matter much. Kroupus
Luke has a few money saving tips on his YouTube channel. Pretty decent to go through. https://youtu.be/5R48xhU_dy0 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331601-bulk-alternative-to-nuln-oil/#findComment-4673182 Share on other sites
Space Truckin
What about Miniwax Stain as an bulk cheap alternative. Never used it for dipping myself but it appears to get similar results in a quick and dirty way. Tyberos the Red Wake
Vallejo sells larger bottles of high quality wash, but they are not huge bottles if that's the kind of bulk you needed, just much larger than GW. You can also thin wash 1:1 with thinner to make it last twice as long at the cost of not being as dark. Lucumon
I used to mix black paint and water (to thin out the black) with something called "Future Floor Wax" - It's an acrylic floor wax that breaks the surface tension. It does make things a bit shiney, but I overcoat all my models with Testors Dullcote now. Then again, I've started using Army Painter Dark Quickshade. Difference in results as well as a methodology here Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331601-bulk-alternative-to-nuln-oil/#findComment-4678446 Share on other sites
