Damo1701
Does anybody know if there is an effect of the Vallejo Pigment fixer (for the weathering powders) on Forgeworld decals at all? I'm planning on adding some decals to a drop pod, then dusting it with some weathering powder, and obviously, I'll want to fix the powder so I don't get dusty hands/have to keep applying it. Thanks. Tyberos the Red Wake
Vallejo Pigment Binder is water-based acrylic. It won't do anything to Forge World decals. If you are ever in doubt or are doing some harsher weathering techniques such as those using oil, enamel, or lacquer, you can always seal in the decal with gloss and matte before weathering. Thanks for the help and advice. I was planning on gloss/decal/gloss/matte/weathering/fixing in that order, as that way it allows the combating of "shiny" decals. I'm not overly confident on weathering etc, but hopefully that will be something I can combat as and when I expand the powder range I have from the black I have to all sorts. Stoic Raptor
If you are ever in doubt or are doing some harsher weathering techniques such as those using oil, enamel, or lacquer, you can always seal in the decal with gloss and matte before weathering. I had to do something similar when layering decals yesterday. I put the tactical arrow on the shoulder pads, but wanted to overlay the squad number. I use Micro Set/Micro Sol to get the decals down nice and smooth, and knew it would mess things up unless I sealed the first decal and laid down the next. Always a good idea when you're working with other stuff to varnish over the decals first. Brother-Chaplain Kage
I was planning on gloss/decal/gloss/matte/weathering/fixing in that order, as that way it allows the combating of "shiny" decals. I would suggest gloss/decal/gloss/weathering(no pigments)/gloss/matte/pigments/pigment fixer. A lot of the scale model techniques I studied before trying them for the for the first time, like oil paint weathering, hairspray chipping, pigments, etc, split up the weathering and pigments into separate phases. In fact, some of them split up weathering into several smaller phases with gloss sealing between them, but it's always best to 'save' your previous work with a coat of gloss before doing something new. Magos Takatus
What sort of properties does a pigment fixer have? Would it turn dirt coloured pigments into a muddy consistancy? I use the light dust colour pigment that forge world produces and I'm concerned the piment fixative would just turn it into a mess.
