Brother Captain Ed
It's a blow, for sure. Glorianas can engage entire fleets. The Red Corsairs having one is more bad news for the Imperium. A minor piece of a deluge of bad news, for sure. But still bad. I found it interesting that the book basically confirms that the Emperor can communicate, directly, when he wants to. It was strongly implied he could do so during the Apostasy, but Guilliman certainly seems to gotten direction from Him. The other big takeaway is Guilliman's view on humanity and the Imperium. I got a very strong image of the primarch's internal dialogue being: >"Save the Dream!" >"But the Dream has become a Nightmare." >"It matters not. Save the Imperium, save the Dream, save your people." Brother Captain Ed
@ Ed - Was that the actual exchange or something you came up with? It's not a verbatim exchange, but the distilled summary of Guilliman's state of mind. He's appalled at the Imperium and despairs. Seeing the strength of his sons, who did not follow his shining father into combat, steels his resolve. To save your people, save the Imperium. Save the dream. dogfender
Ishagu, Any mention of the Astartes Praeses? They should have been mentioned in the first GS, but I get the feeling all those chapters will just fade into existence. Thunder_god
After reading the summary, how many suit filtration systems do you think kicked in when RG stepped out of the reliquary? Banjulhu
So all the Ultramarine successor chapters pledge themselves to RG giving him an army of 600k marines to lead?Sounds like a bad idea to me, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that at the end of the Horus Heresy some Imperial bigwig passed a rule about not letting anyone have direct command of more than 1000 marines, wrote a pretty famous book about it as well if I remember correctly. It was Big G himself that did it. It was written in the Codex by him :D I do no mind. G man is Lord Commander now and a pretty stable dude. Banjulhu
I'm just really hoping the hipocracy in that bit of the story is fully intentional. Frater Cornelius
Well, it is not like he reinstated the Legion. He just commands them like the High Lords would have. Besides, new times call for new means. I do not think you would approve if someone would call you a hypocrite for something you have done 10.000 years ago when the circumstances were very very different. Besides, being Lord Command and all, he technically commands all of the Imperium's armed forces. DogWelder
I suppose you guys are right. Overall, the Ultramarines kicked the hell out of the Black Legion and their cronies and the invasion of Ultramar itself has been repelled. The loss of the Maccrages Honour spoils the victory for a bit though. I hope they get it back :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331760-gathering-storm-3-lore-spoilers/page/2/#findComment-4678685 Share on other sites

Our strategic priorities will be dictated by the operational needs of the wider Imperium. Now is not the time for chapter vendettas, but the needs of Mankind. Also the difference between a battle barge and a gloriana is that we can't just rebuild a gloriana. Once its lost its gone for good. Seahawk
We have seven Battle Barges on the active roster, actually. Check the link in my sig! Remember, the Caesar was destroyed recently, in Chapter's Due. DogWelder
***spoilers*** I thought it was 5 according to the Lexicanum but alright. There should be a book dedicated to that amazing naval battle with the Alpha Legion that Calgar pulled off btw. Seahawk
Lesson learned young battle brother: Lexi is always wrong. ;) There are a total of 8 named battle barges, and Graham MacNeill felt like killing one in a book. Frater Cornelius
How come Wolves have so many more than that? I suppose UM did supply theirs to their nunerous successors, whereas SW did not bother with it. Seahawk
Space Wolves only have eight battle barges, same as the Ultramarines (we'll, before Chapter's Due anyway, but apparently that's getting retconned out for this new story arc). Space Wolves do indeed have a bucket ton more Strike Cruisers though, and likely because they didn't split after the 2nd founding. DogWelder
I just got done reading it. Wow...just wow. So much Ultramarine and RG action. My favourite parts were: -RG leading a devastating campaign against the invading Black Legion (finally, we get to see him in a strategist role after that awful depiction in Betrayer). Under his guidance the Ultras secure the Fortress of Hera in 3 hours and exterminate all Chaos forces on Maccrage in a month. -The beatdown he gave Magnus at the final battle on Luna. That was ver much a long time coming after what Magnus put him through during the events of the book. Magnus gets punched by the hand of dominion several times, stabbed through the chest with the Emperor's blade and (with the assistance of the Eldar) gets blasted into the Labyrinth Dimension. Seahawk
Just finished the first act. Whatever, I loved reading it, and the part where gets up? Emotes, man. My big beef so far is that there are no goddamned dates on anything, so updating the timeline is going to be tricky. The invasion of M'kar was defeated (but how quickly?) and there was a period of healing and recovery (but how long?), so at the shortest I'd probably say 2-4 years after the entry in the timeline. Ishagu
The first act was very good, imo. I didn't enjoy the Maelstrom bit, personally, because I felt the story lost momentum.
