NattyMac
I'm headed overseas and am hoping to do a fair bit of painting done, but I can't ship aerosol primer. Can anyone suggest any non-aerosol primer options? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331856-non-aerosol-primer-options/ Share on other sites
infyrana
Haven't tried it myself, but you could take a look at Vallejo primers, google up how to paint that stuff with a brush and you might get some idea if it will work for you. Hrolf the Cunning
I have found the Vallejo primers to be excellent for airbrush or regular brush. They have a good range of primer colours, although I've only used the black, grey and white and a great consistency out of the dropper. I've found that they can still be a little fragile especially if you don't give them enough time after painting before moving onto the next step, so that would be the only cautionary point to make. Demus Ragnok
I've used Vallejo primer with a brush and was very happy. I've also used white gesso with good results. quinnwolf
Citadels own Imperial Primer has been pretty disappointing for me, where you going, can't you buy a can of primer there? Ovidius Incertus
Citadels own Imperial Primer has been pretty disappointing for me, where you going, can't you buy a can of primer there? A particularly mountainous Central Asian republic. Vallejo primers can be brushed on, if you want. Or, alternately, do you think you could find some automotive spray primer in the motor pool? I use Duplicolor sandable primers from NAPA, and others use standard automotive primers. Maybe you could scrounge some, since it's a pretty universal item. Stoic Raptor
I've been using the Vallejo Acrylic-Polyurethane primers with a brush for years and they have done very well for me. I will echo Hrolf's recommendation to give the primer time to cure - 24 hours is ideal - to avoid the possibility of it wearing off later. But it goes on smoothly, is self-leveling so it won't pool, makes a nice thin coat and I highly recommend it.
