infyrana
I have a spare Dreadnought CCW arm or two and wanted to give them the Grav option, but I've no idea how to model it and looking to you all for some thoughts and ideas please! With my lack of modeling skills my simplest idea was to source some sort of coned tube and attach it in the middle of the fist as it is on the Contemptors. I would lack the little nobbles around the outside of the forearm but that wouldn't bother me, as long as I remove the Storm Bolter that's there I guess. Also, probably not the best place to ask but since I'm here... I wanted to run some of the PDC Gaming 'rapier' batteries, they have an option on there that could pose as Grav but obviously isn't - do people have objections to that sort of thing? Would give me a great cheap alternative so I can save pennies for the new Moritat :) Plus I was hoping to magnetise in the "triple"-mortar shell for options. Major_Gilbear
Hmm, well if modelling isn't your strong point, I do have a couple of suggestions for you: 1) Use a pair of 40k Grav pistols. One pistol's muzzle can fit into the palm, and the "power units" can be placed under the wrist. I know 40k Grav is different from 30k Grav, but I think it should be more than clear enough from the game context what it is that you've got. 2) You can usually buy specific little bits from FW kits on ebay from various sellers. Maybe it'd be simplest to just get the official resin muzzle and power units and stick them on your model. As for the third party Rapier units... I don't have a problem with them personally, but I do prefer for any such proxy models to be properly in theme and for them to be completely clear about what weapons they are armed with. Looking over some third-party models, a few look quite different in style, and some weapons are not as clear to me as they could be. Ultimately though, you would need to speak to your gaming group and/or prospective opponents and seek their approval - theirs is the only permission you really need. Xenith
Green stuff press moulded a 40k grav gun barrel, then cut out the storm bolter, and put the GS barrel there instead. Edit. If you want cheaper rapiers, then look at the Kromlech thread in the N&R section. They just released several variants. I like your first option, I'll check that out tonight as I might have a spare grav pistol or two. If not, I was after some combi's anyway which would be cheaper than FW 'bits', I just need to buy them complete with the grav option to double their value, thanks! Your avatar is bugging me because I recognise it, is it something like the Emperor from the Dune PC game or? My GS skills are extremely bad, I could give it a try but have yet to make anything I like with GS. I have looked at the Kromlech rapiers, very nice, but still a little pricey. After I posted this thread last night I kept digging around and ended up looking at the Kataphron Destroyers, on discount a set of three of these for grav-rapiers look perfect, just need to see how I could convert them to remove the servitor. The Grav pistol muzzles are slightly smaller than the full Grav guns, so I thought you'd have an easier time getting them to fit into the palm. Plus, I think they are much easier/cheaper to get hold of anyway. Good thinking on the Tactical/Devastator Combi-Grav, that could also be a good option. :) Your avatar is bugging me because I recognise it, is it something like the Emperor from the Dune PC game or? It's the Padishah Emperor Frederick IV of House Corrino from the old "Dune 2" PC game. ;) After I posted this thread last night I kept digging around and ended up looking at the Kataphron Destroyers, on discount a set of three of these for grav-rapiers look perfect, just need to see how I could convert them to remove the servitor. The Kataphron tracked bases are a good base to work from. I think the Servitors are actually separate from the tracks anyway (to let you swivel them at the waist), so it'll just be a case of getting a suitable weapon to fit onto the tracks then. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331936-modeling-grav-30k-on-dread-ccws/#findComment-4683692 Share on other sites
Xenith
Thanks for the suggestions! My GS skills are extremely bad, I could give it a try but have yet to make anything I like with GS. The only thing you have to make is a press mould using rapid mould sticks. have a google. Just press GS into your completed mould and let it cure then youre done. infyrana
Gilbear: Knew it! Been a very long time since I played it. gotta love a classic. I think I'd convert the existing Grav gun it comes with - very suitable proxy :) Xenith: Oh that's new to me but would surely help, cheers!
