Herald of Magnus
How do knights work in 30k? Do you have to take an allied detachment of two, with one as hq and one as troop. Or can you just add one to your army as a lord of war choice like in 40k? I can't find any rules or anything for this in 30k, I'm playing against 40k armies so would it be fair just to mix the 40k codex of knights being used in my army that way? Harrowmaster
They are in the questoris knight list as a full army. AFAIK only mechanicum can take them as Lords of War, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331958-taking-a-knight/#findComment-4683893 Share on other sites
Herald of Magnus
Oh that sucks, so there's no way to just take one then, only two as allies. That's a great shame as I want my knight to see play, I do have another but won't have time to build it. Would it be too cheesy to use the one from the Knights codex in my army as a LoW choice considering we already play a mix of 30k and 40k rules to make our games work or? Harrowmaster
Depends on your opponent, if you want to do something like that you're best off checking with them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331958-taking-a-knight/#findComment-4683918 Share on other sites
Unknown Legionnaire
Nope. 1.) Like it has been said Knights can be taken as an allied detachment, thus you need at least 2 and they gain access to Household Ranks. 2.) Knights can be taken as a LoW choice as detailed on page 9 of the most recent Legion Army List ('Red Book'), left column, read under 'War Machine Detachment'. Herald of Magnus
Oh they can be taken as a lord of war choice for an army then! That's pretty sweet! Though now I have to decide between whether I want one of them or 2 Contemptors with kheres assault cannons instead! Dammit! The other thing is if taken in the primary detachment with Ferrus would they get the bonuses from it will not die and blessed autosimulcra? Brofist
The answer is yes, but you can only have a single LoW so you won't be able to take Ferrus and a Knight. Herald of Magnus
Someone pointed this out earlier that you can use the Onslaught force organisation chart in which case you'd get access to 2 lord of war choices, the idea of Ferrus buffing a knight up sounds a bit.. nasty... Fenbain
Just so you know, the Onslaught FOC is opponent's permission only and cannot be used with Rites of War. Herald of Magnus
I really should check the book better before I quote this stuff! I've just seen where it had all the rules for them, yes, you're right! Though even without rites of war it could still be used with Ferrus for the IWND and blessed rule because that's an iron hands rule, not a rite of war based one? Sorry, still unsure of all these things! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331958-taking-a-knight/#findComment-4684296 Share on other sites

Sorry, still unsure of all these things! Answered this in the IH tactica, but LoW is not a slot, its a detachment much like an allied detachment, Ferrus Manus only affects the Primary Detachment so long story short no 5+ IWND for Lords of War with Ferrus Manus in the army.
