TheOneTrueZon
Has anyone experimented with these on any GW products? I ordered the 1mm & 2mm to do some chrome panels on bolters and other parts but couldn't find photos of anyone who was doing the same. http://amzn.to/2nqhruy Here a YouTube video that shows the product on a plastic miniature. Around the 18:00 minute mark is where you get the idea for the finish: If anyone is interested I'll post some pics after I do some tests once it arrives. TheOneTrueZon
These pens are amazing. This SoS was basecoated black, then armor + sword given 1 coat with the pen. Base colors applied, then nuln oil wash on everything. One more pass with the chrome pen on the armor and sword to really shine. Awesome. Olis
Wow, chrome pens eh? I've only just discovered the little life-hack of using metallic sharpie pens, so the idea of using one of these sounds really appealing right now. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331973-molotow-liquid-chrome-markers/#findComment-4705767 Share on other sites
TheOneTrueZon
Do they offer gold chrome? Id do all of my custodes, i have yet to build with this stuff. There is a gold pen, but I haven't used it yet. Not sure if it'll have the same reflective properties. http://bit.ly/2o8hgXf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331973-molotow-liquid-chrome-markers/#findComment-4705808 Share on other sites

Dredmour
Wow... How does it react with Shades, Glazes, etc.?Like does it react weird when used/layered with standard citadel paints? Also does it come out very runny? Sorry but one last question, does it tend to rub off/chip and or have you sealed it with anything? Those amazing looking results that I might just have to try myself. I just want to know how versatile the pens are, and how well I can mess with the effects so I don't spend money on an effect that looks almost "too real" for my painting haha.Great minis regardless, brother!Kind regards,Dredmour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331973-molotow-liquid-chrome-markers/#findComment-4706104 Share on other sites
Olis
You've convinced me TOTZ. I've bought a 1mm nib and a 2mm nib of these. I'll report back on what they're like. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/331973-molotow-liquid-chrome-markers/#findComment-4706165 Share on other sites

So far I've only used a Nuln oil wash on this. I would say the only thing is to really let it dry before applying washes or other colors, the trick is it's hard to tell when it's dry - it's alcohol based, so the pigment is left behind after it evaporates. The first application took less than 10 minutes, but I let it dry for almost a day before touching, just to be sure. There will be more experimentation further down the road and will post results here. Olis
Both the pens turned up today and I've hunted around for a donor model to try them out on. If anyone wants pictures, let me know and I'll post them. Anyhoo, they weren't kidding when they said it was a chrome finish - the model I have tested them out on looks a lot like the limited quantity chrome sprues from years ago. The shine is superb but if it ends up getting rubbed enough, then the finish will be marred. Also, care needs to be taken when using the 2mm nib. It is easy to apply the chrome but it is also easy to cover over very fine details, such as armour panelling. You'll also need to let the chrome dry, much like paint. I know the video says they do not have an odour - this is strictly not true as they definitely do but the odour is much, much less powerful than I have experienced from similar products in the past. For example; you can clearly smell a permanent marker, but these pens are much less noticeable (if at all depending on how far the pen is away from your nose). Oh, and the markers are 'pump' ones, so you need to push the nib against a hard surface a couple of times to 'load' the chrome into the nib. I've never used a 'pump' marker before, so it took me a few minutes trying to figure out why the nib didn't hold any of the chrome to start with and how to load the nib. Brother-Chaplain Kage
For anyone planning on putting washes or other paint on top of these, I suggest that you put a coat of gloss on top of the chrome once it's dry to both protect the marker paint from the chance of being affected by your washes, but also because washes work better on top of a gloss coat. The Traitor
I'm definitely buying this, I actually know a place who sells them. This combined with the black 2.0 idea I got from this thread will make for a perfect Malal Daemon army, combining total opposities, completely reflecting light and completely absorbing it, this is even better than the black and white scheme ! Edit: just realised that the black 2.0 thread is also from you, TheOneTrueZon, so thanks a lot for sharing both ideas ;), you surely are an innovative painter! Brother-Chaplain Kage
A different background color would have made it a lot easier to see the effect of the markers. TheOneTrueZon
Yeah I agree - I've been playing around with my lighting setup.
