ORIGIN OF THE CHAPTER:

During the beginning of the Horus Heresy, the Adeptus Custodes known as Salvator was visiting a Blood Angels recruitment and training facility when a warp rift opened nearby and sucked in the entire facility, and Salvator. They landed on the world Portum III in the Segmentum Obscuris, M41 702.

Salvator immediately assumed command and found that the gene seed had been altered, making it much closer to the genes of Sanguinius himself. As such, the Astartes created with this gene seed will sprout angelic wings after a number of years in active service.

The Angels Incarnate see this as a sign of experience, so the marine that sprouted wings is immediately promoted. A very small number of the marines have an ability with foresight, and can use that ability to dodge fatal incoming shots.

The neophytes that were becoming marines during the warp travel were all dead so they immediately started making marines from the 20,000 neophytes present. Salvator quickly found that a smaller percentage of neophytes became marines, due to the altered gene seed. The ones that survived, 300 of them, were given training from Salvator and the marines that were present for training. If a battle brother excelled in a certain type of fighting, they were assigned to either a tactical, devastator, assault, scout, bike or tank squad. Promotions then lead to becoming a sergeant, veteran, captain or to bigger tanks.

As the Angels Incarnate, then known as the Lost, spread out they realized that the world of Portum III was full of chaos cults and people going along with it to save their skins, but keeping to the Imperial Creed, all on the southern and equatorial continents. The northern landmass, where the facility had landed, was inhospitable thanks to the predatory lizards that meant certain death to all but Astartes and the neophytes within the void shields.

The Lost spread from the northern continent, freeing the loyal population and purging the cults. They then moved on to clearing the other four chaos infested planets in the system. It was during these crusades that the first wings began to sprout from the backs of the marines, both giving rise to the name Angels Incarnate and the promotion system.

They managed to get a comms tower operational and contact a nearby Explorator fleet, and bartered them the location of a world that possibly had archeotech in exchange for the whereabouts of the nearest Blood Angels ship. The ship in question was a small task force, no more than 40 marines, dedicated to cleansing a few worlds at the border of the Segmentum Obscuris where it met the Segmentum Solar. They were very surprised at finding 250 marines with arms and armour from the Horus Heresy and immediately contacted Baal. Dante messaged Salvator, but as the Angels Incarnate answered to Salvator above all bar the Emperor, and the Custodes would not see Dante as his commander, the Angels Incarnate were shut from the Blood Angels.

The purple armour that the Angels Incarnate wear came about when they had destroyed a warband of Emperor's Children and whilst one of the Alpha Squad was asleep, the rest of the squad jokingly started to change his power armour pieces to that of a member of the Emperor's Children. They had only changed the shoulder pads, helmet and backpack when the marine woke up and told his squad mates to go and take a hike. He decided he liked the colouration and design, so painted the appropriate parts of his armour a deep purple. The design caught on and within a month, the colouration of the chapter was decided.

CHAPTER HOME WORLD

The world of Portum III lies with its northern landmass pointing toward the blue dwarf star it orbits, due to an asteroid hit during M38. As a result of this, the human populations live on the equatorial and southern land masses.

It is an ocean world, with three main landmasses and some small islands dotted around the edges of the continents. Local flora and fauna include animals not dissimilar to ancient Terran dinosaurs, as it seems that similar evolution changes happened here as did on Terra. The seas are mostly full of fish, plesiosaurs and pliosaurs. To be able to kill a pliosaur is to be heralded as a champion. The land is home to many species of theropod and sauropod, with the carnivores that attack the base are either slaughtered or tamed and used as mounts. The fastest of these can easily run faster than a space marine attack bike, so the Angels Incarnate can divert more precious fuel to their Land Raiders.

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

M41 702-921

The Angels Incarnate trade Horus Heresy era archeotech from the facility and the Knight world for suits of power armour and weapons itch the Adeptus Mechanicus, the most profitable trade being a fragment of an STC from the Knight world of Santor for twenty suits of Terminator armour and an undying close friendship with the Mechanicus.

M41 952

The Angels Incarnate caught word of an Imperial Space Marine come out of the warp on the world of Invictus II. The fleet of the second company, relinquished from a heretical Inquisitor, was in the system so they decided to get to the marine so that they survived to live another day.

When they met the marine one of the members of the second squad poked their head over the edge of a rock, took off their helmet to yell at the marine and was disintegrated. The Imperial Space marine had thought the marine was one of the Emperor's Children. The remaining four members then jumped up and over the rock, and the Imperial Space Marine hesitated with his fire, seeing the Blood Angels designs on their armour. After a great amount of negotiations, the marine decided to join the Angels Incarnate, and just as they finished painting the appropriate armour parts purple Dante arrived with the whole of the first and second companies, and seeing that the Imperial Space Marine had joined the Angels Incarnate he immediately regretted his decision to shut them out of the Blood Angels, and there was no way that the Imperial Space Marine, who was given the name Praedo by his new squad mates, could be persuaded to leave his friends.

M41 953-997

Destroying the numerous chaos cults in the Segmentum Obscuris and discovered another Knight World, the only knightly House remaining the House Red Wolf.

M41 998

The Angels Incarnate aided the Space Wolves in the Battle for Alaric Prime, forming a strong friendship with them. They then developed an alcoholic drink akin to beer, that is about twice as strong as the Space Wolves' one. All astartes have to develop an immunity to the drink, otherwise even they will have their insides destroyed.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

They have a very high amount of assault squads and all their first company is made up of Sanguinary Guard. Terminator squads are normally made up of marines promoted from devastator squads, and not solely veterans. They use tamed raptors in place of attack bikes in elite cases.

ROLL OF HONOUR:

During a Necron awakening, the Beta and Delta squads of the second company, along with a furioso dreadnought and a unit of Sanguinary Guard was ordered to try and kill the overlord along with a unit of Sanguinary Guard. Brother Praedo, the Imperial Space Marine, managed to kill him in one shot at the maximum range of his weapon, almost ending the awakening right there and then.

During a fight against a warband of Fallen, the Furioso Dreadnought arced his frag cannon rounds, annihilating a unit of Devastators with only two shots.

When the second company were sent to put down a pair of renegade Guard regiments, and the Beta Squad (including Brother Praedo) was assigned to exterminating the few Plague Marines that guarded the leader of the heresy, an Astropath. They were attacked horribly, condemning the new member to a dreadnought. They managed to annihilate the plague marines but the astropath was dragged into the warp trying to summon a group of Plaugebearers but he only managed a clump of nurglings that were quickly destroyed with holy bolter fire.

CHAPTER ORGANIZATION:

First Company- 100 Sanguinary Guard

Second Company- 80 tactical marines, 20 Sternguard Veterans

Third Company- 80 devastators, 20 Terminators

Fourth Company- 80 assault squads, 20 Vanguard Veterans

Fifth to Eighth Companies- 60 tactical marines, 20 assault marines, 20 devastators.

Ninth Company- 84 bikes, 16 raptor riders.

Tenth Company- 100 scouts

FLEET ASSETS:

1 Emperor class battleship

2 battle barges

6 strike cruisers

10 rapid strike vessels

2 Endeavour light cruisers

7 Sword Class frigates

3 Cobra Class Destroyers

BELIEFS:

Whoever can brew the strongest beer wins the Golden Claw, a seized daemon claw from a Bloodthirster that was dipped in gold and used as a trophy

RECRUITMENT:

They maintain that if someone can get to them through the void of space and the packs of raptors and occasionally a carnosaur. They allow both men and women to become Marines, but only two female marines, one assault marine of the Fourth Company and a Raptor Rider of the Ninth Company are alive in 999 M41. Ten women have become marines in the history of the Angels Incarnate.

If a marine captures, subdues, tames, trains and is able to ride a raptor they are immediately promoted to the Ninth Company Raptor Riders, regardless of rank or company. Anyone above the rank of Sergeant can omit this however.

LOCAL RITUALS:

Raptor Racing over a 10 km route going through forests, a desert and even the neophyte training ground.

Beer Brewing- whoever can brew the strongest beer.

Unarmed Wrestling

Holographic training grounds, each competitor is in a small room in a machine that lets the marines control a holographic version of themselves in pit fights, arena matches, capture the flag and fights against holographic heretics, xenos and even other loyalist chapters.

HONOURS, RELICS, DECORATIONS AND AWARDS:

The Beer Blade

A pattern welded power sword that when it was forged, was quenched in beer instead of water. Awarded to the marine that can drink the most in one go without regurgitation.

The Raptor Muzzles

golden and silver helmet/muzzles awarded to the winner and second place of the Raptor Races respectively.

BATTLE CRY:

For The Emperor and Sanguinius!

Purge the heretics

ORIGIN OF THE CHAPTER:

During the Great Crusade, the 133rd Chapter (Hereby known as Red Eagles), were members of Sanguinius’s host and fought along side their Primarch. When during “The War of Murder” Sanguinius was attacked by a host of Xenos creatures when the assault Vanguard became scattered due to a powerful storm. Alone aside from his sanguinary guard the Primarch was beset on all sides when Chapter master Agricola of the Red Eagles disobeyed orders and deployed on their lord’s station with his entire chapter. Relying on the skill of his pilots the chapter deployed around the Primarch forming a ceramite wall protecting Sanguinius from the tide of Xenos creatures around him. Fighting with their Primarch and elements of the sanguinary guard, the force formed a defensive perimeter and held out until the rest of the assault force regrouped. Honouring the actions of the Red Eagles, their current roster were granted gold helmets symbolizing the gratitude of their Primarch.

From this point onward the Red Eagles often served as a reserve force, waiting in low orbit before deploying to capitalize on breakthroughs, halt enemy reinforcements or reinforce weak points in the line. Due to this skill set the chapter’s flight crews and assault companies became extremely proficient, providing more golden helmed veterans than most other chapters. The chapter followed Sanguinius from Signus Prime to Terra fighting on the walls of the imperial palace at the eternity gate where again the Eagles found themselves fighting with their liege lord nearby. Under the leadership of Master Agricola the Eagles poured fire into the traitors who approached Sanguinius. It was at this stage, during a lull in the combat, Sanguinius drank from Agricola’s chalice, offered to him by the Chapter master, which remains in the possession of the legion to this day.

When Sanguinius was struck down by Horus aboard his flagship, the eagles felt personally responsible lamenting they had not gone with the Primarch to protect him. When Horus was in turn cast down and the traitorous legions became unorganized, the Eagles charged from their positions pursuing the traitors to their landing ships before attempting to board their own transports to pursue the enemy into the warp. They were prevented from doing this until the codex Astartes was introduced to the loyalist legions in the wake of the heresy where the 133rd chapter was separated from the rest of the legion. The Red Eagles had a strength of around 600 and donned a gold helmet to commemorate their actions on Murder, and a black fist so to remember their failure to protect their lord, and their duty to bring death to those who sought it. Almost immediately they boarded their vessels and began hunting the traitors through the galaxy, particularly the Sons of Horus. After fighting alongside them during the War of Murder their betrayal was felt even more keenly by the Red Eagles who hunted their once comrades destroying any that they found. It was at this point the Eagles pursued a warband by the name of “The Emperors End” into the warp never to be heard from again.

During their absence, after waiting 500 years the high lords of terra removed the chapter from the records, not wanting to acknowledge the loss of a full chapter so soon after they’re formation. However more than 1000 years after their disappearance a lone battle barge and strike cruiser, severely damaged, emerged from the warp bearing long forgotten symbols and heraldry. Less than 100 battle brothers were left on the Battle barge “Crimson Sword” and it seemed that there was no life aboard the cruiser which was being towed by the barge. Immediately put into quarantine by elements of the Ultramarines, who were the first to find the eagles adrift in the galaxy, sent word to both Terra and Baal. Representatives arrived and began examining the marines, finding that although scarred and few in number, they were still combat effective and eager to serve. At first the Eagles were to be slain, as surely even astartes could not come through over 1000 years in the warp unscathed and un marred by the taint of chaos. However the Blood Angels protested, and eventually the representatives from Terra agreed, deciding to reform the chapter as one of the many formed in the recent fourth founding. Re gifted the planet that they had originally been granted the Eagles limped to their planet of Miliatum Secundus in the Miliatum sector, between the forge world of Mezoa and the Pelegron cluster. The Eagles have continued to serve since M32 with great distinction.

CHAPTER HOME WORLD/FLEET:

The Miliatum sector is at the very edge of the galaxy, meaning that the Eagles are largely responsible for themselves. The sector is made up of 4 planets and 6 moons, with an asteroid belt surrounding the edge of the system. Miliatum Prime is the capital, and is the only hive world of the region with a population of 79 billion providing a sizeable workforce and two vital moons. “Wing” is the largest of the two moon and holds a space port, providing a vital link to the rest of the imperium, as both a trade route, and naval base. The moon provides the naval yards for the planets defence fleet. The second moon “Claw” is a fortress, providing the barracks for the “Eagles Talons”, the 53rd Miliatese Airborne. The regiment excels in rapid deployment and drop assault due its almost constant deployment against various xenos raiders, pirates and chaos warbands in the area.

Miliatum Secundus is a feudal world in the heart of the sector and provides a recruiting world for the Eagles, and the Miliatese lancer and dragoon cavalry regiments. Witha small population the world is divided into family houses and knightly orders who vie for dominance amongst themselves. The world is made of three continents occupied by humans and a fourth occupied by orks. Due to a lack of technological advancement there are few firearms and vehicles and hence the combat is almost always hand to hand and transport is by either horse, ship or foot. Every decade or so the orks launch an invasion of the rest of the world often resulting in vast naval and land battles, providing the knights and their retainers the opportunity to impress the astartes and imperial army recruiters who watch from afar. However in the centre of the world is the fortress of the Red Eagles “The Broken Sword”. Made from the original battle barge that bore the eagles home which crashed onto the planet. Although incapable of flight, according to the Eagles, it is a living fortress, with many extra shields and weapons systems deployed along with a vast dock yards. This man-made construct holds the barracks and great assembly of the chapter, while also providing hangers and barracks for the auxiliaries of the legion. Few inhabitants of the world other than those attempting to join the Eagles ever see it never mind step foot on it as it is surrounded by craft crewed by the chapters auxiliaries and treacherous waters which greatly test any potential neophyte. It is whispered that the techpriests and engineseers are often seen working on the long silent engines of the battle barge but such talk and speculation is surely wishful thinking.

“Agricolas Anvil” is the sectors only forge world which is located within the asteroid belt and is home to the final three moons of the system, “Gold”, “Silver”, and “Diamond”. Due to the moons and asteroids which are rich in precious metals and promethium the forge world is vital to the systems economy, and to the rest of the imperium. Due to this the system can afford to support a larger military than normal while also supporting the demands of the Red Eagles.

The last world is a death world home to various creatures and poisonous toxins that plague the worlds human population. “Deaths Breath” These human tribes are hardy people and those who wish to join either the astartes or the “Eagles Talons” are dropped to the word for a year where they must adapt and survive under their watchful eye. Only once an aspirant has proved themselves, be them from hive world, forge world, feudal world or death world may they be admitted to the chapter to serve as either neophyte or auxiliary. Those that survive for two years or longer are drafted into the Eagles Talons where they will serve with as much dignity as an aspirant of the Eagles.

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

At the current moment the Red Eagles are beset on all fronts. With a strength of 650 out of 1000 the Eagles are stretched thin due to their recent actions and the state oftotal war that the galaxy is in. The Chapter has deployed its entire strength, leaving only a single strike cruiser and company to occupy the fortress monastery. A second strike cruiser and company has been deployed to the Cadian gate under Tribunus Cato with a sizeable support element to assist the defenders in holding back the tide of chaos. The rest of the chapters strength, 3 battle barges, 6 strike cruisers and various support frigates and auxiliary vessels were deployed to Baal to support Lord Commander Dante and the rest of the Blood Angels in their defence of the legions home.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

The Red Eagles, when fighting with their preferred method, will defend against a numerically superior foe in depth. Falling back in ordered ranks and lines to prepared positions, each more defensible than the last, wearing down their opponent while specifically targeting elite units and commanders drawing them into choke points. Upon reaching the final line of defence the defenders will hold until the battle begins to turn against them at which point the counter attack begins. The defensive line will start to advance using flamers to push the foes back while Stormravens, Stormhawks and Talons will arrive from above destroying units at the rear of the enemy preventing their retreat. Armoured elements of the chapter will then reinforce the head and attack the flanks of the enemy with their overcharged engines giving the enemy no space to breath. At This point the chapters veterans, assault marines and other combat units will enter via jump pack assault, now beset on all sides with an enemy in their midst the enemy has no room to manoeuvre and no capability to redeploy or retreat.

Occupants of Miliatum Secundus have a deep affinity with the sea which transfers to the various naval units of the chapter, providing a basis of naval and aerial skills matched by few others. The Chapter like their forebears excel in shock and awe campaigns giving the enemy little room to breathe while drawing them into choke points to finish them.

When a marine falls to the black rage he will be put in stasis and brought aboard the cruiser “Angels Doom” which bears the death company from their fortress monastery to combat. The death company are kept permanently in stasis despite criticism from high chaplain Astorsth from the blood angels. The Eagles believe that the death company deserve the right to continue their fight if their will and ability is strong enough, and retain the hope that one day a cure may be found.

ROLL OF HONOR:

The Pursuit of the “Emperors End

In M33 the Eagles received word from a distress call that a warband known as the Emperors End were active, preying on defenceless worlds and imperial ships in the nearby Segmentum Obscuris. Unable to believe their foes were still active in such numbers they immediately deployed their full strength, only to find themselves trapped by a large force of Ork raiders who seemed to be waiting for them. A vast naval battle took place where over 100 hundred Ork vessels were destroyed, unable to compete with the swift Astartes vessels. In a last effort 5 ork cruisers boarded the battle barge “The re-forged blade” only to find the occupants ready for the assault, gunning down the xenos scum in merciless fire. With the last of the ork ships destroyed the eagles continued their hunt to find a single traitor ship, which materialised into the warp before the chapter could engage.

Defense of Miliatum Prime- M35

During a meteor shower a stray meteor awakened a necron tomb world within Miliatum Prime. Thousands of tomb warriors appeared within the hives bypassing the various defences operated by the guard units on the world. Unable to blast the necrons from above for fear of civilian casualties, the Red Eagles deployed and began fighting the Necrons within the Tomb Complex itself. Aided by armoured Miliatean tank units and auxiliary troopers from the chapter, the Imperials were able to scour the complex, eliminating the surviving Necrons over the course of the next 10 years, under the hive worlds which could hear the blasts and gunfire in the caverns below them. With the last Necron defeated the authorities refitted the tunnel network turning it to use an emergency bunker system to provide protection for the planets populace in the event of either natural disaster or planetary bombardment.

Cleansing of Shield World Tertiary M35

When the planetary governor of shield world tertiary fell to the embrace of the ruinous powers, the sector governor deployed 6 full regiments of Astra Militarum to quell the rebellion only for the battlegroup commander to cull the loyalists within his ranks and also join the chaos powers. The Red Eagles were called and Chapter Master Septimus deployed two companies to the warzone. Unable to rely on other guard units, the Eagles began a gruelling conflict which although effective, did little as vast amounts of the population began to join the traitors swelling their ranks. Joined by an element of White Scars, the Astartes began to step up their operations, with the white scars cutting the supply lines while the Eagles attacked isolated battlegroups unable to support each other due to a lack of fuel. The campaign ended when the traitors were ambushed by the White Scars and Red Eagles working in conjunction to kill the fallen governor who had been a pawn of the chaos gods.

It was at this point the full extent of the chaos plan was revealed as a traitor warband summoned a rift in the warp, brought about by the slaughter on the world. Hordes of daemons sprang through, bringing with them a foul plague of nurgle which infected almost all the loyal civilians on the planet, turning them to mindless zombies. Seeing that the planet was a lost cause, the astartes began to evacuate the uninfected loyalists from the planet, with the Eagles defending vital choke points while the White Scars escorted the convoys of evacuees. Pulling back from the planet it was with a heavy heart that the Astartes ordered Exterminatus and destroyed the planet closing the warp rift before the plague could spread to the rest of the sector.

Ork WAAAAGH GUTSTOMPAH- M37

The Ork WAAAAGH led by warboss GUTSTOPMPAH, earned almost grudging respect from the eagles for its shock and awe ability. Mere moments after the orbital sensors found the ork fleet in the system, it was already beginning its bombardment. Four space hulks accompanied by a massive rag tag fleet engaged the planetary defences. The first Hulk seemed to self destruct, falling onto Miliatum Secundus over the ork continent. With a significant portion of the chapter on deployment to the other edge of the galaxy it was left to three companies under Senior Tribune Marcellus to oversee the defence. As the ork fleet began its attack the space hulks landed on Claw and disgorged hordes of orks. The Eagles Claws fought like they had never fought before while Valkyries and vendettas engaged ork craft in brutal dogfights which severely tested their abilities. Believing the target would be the forge world, the planetary governor along with Marcellus coordinated the defence effort around Agricolas Anvil reinforced by various mechanicum craft. At the height of the naval battle, as the defenders began to dominate the combat the master stroke of the ork plan was revealed. The first hulk which had crashed had not been by accident, and had been in fact filled with hordes of Stompas and thousands of orks who passed equipment to the feral orks who occupied the continent. Joining forces the orks began pushing towards the fortess monastery. Using thousands of ramshackle craft the orks began an amphibious assault on broken sword swarming the defences. Despite heavy casualties from strafing runs the orks made it to the fortress monastery. Chapter serfs, clad in carapace armour carrying hot shot lasguns, occupied the battlements joined by Eagles who although few in number, made the greenskin pay heavily for their attack. They were joined by thousands of knights and sergeants who fought the orks in bloody hand to hand combat, fearless despite the fact that most of the orcs were now better armed than themselves. It was not enough.

The orks soon began to overpower the defences when the final gambit of the eagles was revealed. No fewer than 350 battle brothers and 5 dreadnoughts who had fallen to the black rage were unleashed on the greenskin. The brutality of such a gathering had never been witnessed before and the orks were pushed back towards their ships. Those who the death company did not kill fell into the water drowning unable to swim leaving the water full of green corpses. It was then decided that the orks on the northern continent should be exterminated, so that they could never threaten the planet again.

CHAPTER ORGANIZATION:

The Chapter is led currently by Lord Legatus Alfonso and is in supreme command of the Miliatese sector itself.

High Priest Rafael leads the priesthood. Ancient Librarian Septimus is the oldest member of the chapter and has lived since the chapter’s birth. He is often in stasis as his soul is weary after almost 10000 years of service and therefore arch librarian Quintus leads the librarium on a daily basis, reviving Septimus in times of great need or strife. Chaplain Marcus leads the chaplaincy and is the keeper of the damned, while Senior Tribune Gaius commands the first company. These are the members of the inner council, but are often joined by many oft the battle captains and ship captains. All Captains have the authority to petitionthe council but may only vote if authorised by the Legatus.

At full strength, there would be over a thousand brothers divided into the various battle companies. There are no reserve companies within the chapter, giving each company the ability to adapt to a situation at hand. There are two types of battle company, Pugio and Gladius. A Pugio Company operates from a strike cruiser while a Gladius operates from a battle barge. A Pugio company will consist of 80 marines. 30 tactical marines, 20 assualt marines, 10 vanguard veterans, 10 devastators and another 10 veterans led by a captain. Each strike cruiser has 20 marines permanently assigned to them who can occupy a variety of roles, they too are led by a captain.

A Gladius is significantly larger with 120 marines, 50 tactical marines, 30 assault marines, 20 devastators and 20 veterans. There are then 40 marines permanently attached to a battle barge but again in a variety of roles. There are then many auxiliaries fulfilling the role of both serf and naval armsmen. Each is battle trained and armed with carapace armour and hot shot lasguns, providing the naval captains with a second force with which to defend their ships. A strike cruiser will have a complement of 50 serfs while a battle barge will carry around 200 hundred and also other equipment. The battle barges are known to carry flights of Valkyries/ vendettas and are also occasionally known to carry armoured miliatese tank units if their mission requires it. This has drawn criticism and suspicion from out with the chapter, however due to the vast space that the Eagles patrol Legatus Alfonso has ruled that for the eagles to continue to carry out their role with the utmost efficiency, they require the ability to rapidly deploy with the tools needed rather than wait for long periods of time for others to provide the resources.

On Broken sword there are 50 marines on permanent guard alongside over 1000 serfs while 30 sanguinary guard inhabit one of the other strike cruisers if not with Alfonso. At any time there are 50 neophytes but with no permanent station and another 100 on trial at varying stages.

FLEET ASSETS:

“Reforged Blade”- Battle Barge- 1st Gladius Company

“Agricolas Fist”- Battle Barge- 2nd Gladius Company

“Spear of the Eagle” – Batlle Barge 3rd Gladius Company

“Angels Wing”- Strike Cruiser- 4th Pugio Company

“Angels Blade”- Strike Cruiser- 5th Pugio Company

“Angels Knife”- Strike Cruiser- 6th Pugio Company

“Angels Fist”- Strike Cruiser- 7th Pugio Company

“Angels Spear”- Strike Cruiser- 8th Pugio Company

“Angels Gaze”- Strike Cruiser- Sanguinary Guard

“Angels Doom”- Strike Cruiser- Chaplaincy

There are then dozens of escort frigates and some cruisers run and owned by the chapter.

BELIEFS:

The Red Eagles believe that Sanguinius will one day come back, referring to an ancient Terran text where they draw many parallels to Sanguinius and the events relating to his death. They believe that when he returns he will lead his legion to re-forge the galaxy that was once built. The Red Eagles are loyal to the Emperor and would give up their lives for hi if it was asked, but if they had to choose between Sanguinius and the Emperor himself their loyalty would be severely tested.

RECRUITMENT:

Neophytes come from any of the planets of the Miliatum system from one of two ways. Tournament or trial. Tournaments take place on the planets of the system normally once every three years with thousands of aspirants trying every time. Those who distinguish themselves (Not necessarily win) are tested to see wither they are compatible. Others simply try and reach various outposts operated by the chapter, normally in some of the systems most hazardus environments, most notably the monastery itself. Potential recruits must sail the treacherous waters plagued by pirates and sea creatures to try and reach the monastery. If they do, they are then taken to the death world of “Deaths Breath” here they are left for at least two years where if they distinguish themselves they will be taken by an astartes craft to be implanted after final trials. Those who survive two years are removed and can be drafted to either the “Eagles Talons” or can become one of the chapters serfs.

Initiates now face a final tournament which brings the number of aspirants down to around 50 although on occasions there can be more. The final trials are gruelling and envolves hand to hand combat, group tasks such as pitched battles, naval races and also exams testing the mental ability of potential initiates.

LOCAL RITUALS:

Tournaments are a regular part of every day life and astartes are no different, often competing themselves. Tournaments have a wide variety of contests from accuracy, close combat, speed and endurance to horseback riding.

Due to this many astartes have close relations ships with the planets populace and anyone from trooper, bar worker or street child can befriend an astartes, who after every deployment have 15 days “shore leave” They return home or simply stay at the monastery with various tasks and past times that they enjoy. Sailing and flying are most common withmany astartes having their own personal civilian craft.

Every six years the entire sector takes part in war games, with everyone mobilised to simulate an invasion. Many other chapters and guard regiments are asked to play the part of the attackers and attempt to defeat the systems inhabitants. The combat is entirely electronic, with combatants armed with eclectric rounds and blades which numb and knockout their targets. The Eagles have won 564 times and lost 72 with the loss over 300 years ago when a coalition of Sable swords, Crimson fists, Ultramarines and Mordian Iron guard were able to defeat the Eagles.

HONORS, RELICS, DECORATIONS AND AWARDS:

The Red Eagles have received many titles, adulations and trophies of long past victories with each company bearing a trophy name with the Chapter standard bearing the names of Victorious Campaigns.

GENE-SEED:

Blood Angels, the Eagles have tithed much of their gene seed to Terra and know of one successor “The Talons of Baal” Who they have not had the privilege to meet.

CHAMPIONS OF THE CHAPTER:

Marius Alfonso, Lord Legatus of the Miliatese system, Chapter Master and High Chancellor of the Red Eagles.

Marius leads the Eagles through the current times with the ability of a man half his age. He is now 500 years old and has seen much yet wishes to see much more. He years to do his best for the imperium and pushes himself to the limit, attempting to meet the quality of those famous astartes recognised by all such as Calgar and Dante. After serving with the Blood Angels for 10 years Dante saw Alfonsos abilities and knew that when he returned to the Eagles he would become Chapter Master. He took him personally under his wing and Alfonso now strives to prove that he was worthy of such an honour.

Revered Chief Librarian Septimus is the oldest Eagle alive and was one of those who journeyed into the warp in the aftermath of the siege of Terra. Still a lowly neophyte initiate Septimus faced the warp with little experience and had not yet received his power armour yet somehow survived. His experience in the warp awakened the psyker in his soul and upon returning from the warp he was given his power armour, before being interred in dreadnought armour after being poisoned by a nurgle blade during a skirmish with “The Emperors End.” Since he provides the Chapter, and the librarium with much needed knowledge and experience for the 41st millennium.

Exemplar Council :

Exemplar Vitalis: First Among equals, the Exemplar Vitalis is not only skilled in combat or brilliant at strategy but is committed to two ideals. The first is redemption of the chapter for their association with Basillius. The second is to hold firm to the charge given to the first Master Exemplar by Attica Centurius, a millennia ago as the fire sheathed marine brought salvation to the Aequitas. Once elected to the rank of the Exemplar Vitalis’s duty is to find way to bring life to the Chapter once more even if that means death for himself or those with him. This because no Son of Sanguinius turuly dies, as long as the chapter which has shared his blood still lives. The Exemplar Viatlis commands between 10-20 Sanguinary Exemplars but is often found fighting near the front alongside even the most lowly battle brothers, the medicants, those whom the Visions have left in despair and rage.

Exemplars Mortalis: The chapter maintains 11 additional Exemplar commanders, each capable and authorized of leading a pilgrimage, or raiding party, as he feels lead or a crusade, full scale incursion, if the council decides to deploy force in mass. Each Commander leads a cadre of Sanguinary Exemplars numbering between 5-10.

The chapter is divided into 4 orders of Marines and a separate order for the Laity.

Ascetics: Librarians, Chaplains, Sanguinary Priests, and other Support Marines (90)

Eremitians: Dreadnaughts (60)

Ardents: Veterans (180)

Cenobium: Any Fully Developed Marine not part of another Enclave (480)

Aspirants: 240 Scouts

Laity: Numbering 1200 from the Cult of Sanguinis, these humans are battle trained but are not allowed to partake in the sacred communion of Sanguinius.

Mendicants 200+ Death Company.

▪ ALLEGIANCE: Loyal, Penitent, Suspected Heretics.

ORIGIN OF THE CHAPTER:

Originally founded as the Angels Aequitas, the Sanguine Mortalis were established in secret by renegade members of the Ecclesiarchy who were not happy that they had been stripped of all military might after Vandire used the armies of the Ecclesiarchy to purge enemies and dissenters during the Regin of Blood. Moving in secret, these chapters were established using gene seeds supplied as tithes but none of them were brought to full chapter strenght before they were deployed in covert service of the Ecclesiarchy as they laid plans to return to greater power during the Age of Redemption. Among those for which those who wished Vandire had succeeded was a young cardinal form a Ecclesiarch Dynasty named, Basillius. He, along with clerics scions, longed to be equals to the Great Families of Terra who could command the great and terrible war engines known as Knights. Basillius was considered exceptionally pious and through the performance of many miracles as well as his family’s status within the Ecclesiarchy, he was named a living Saint.

St. Basillius as he was now known, took his new found authority and gathered together the 5 chapters which the Ecclesiarchy had been nurturing and created the Puritas Division to serve as his strong right hand. Shortly after his ascension to sainthood, he used this began to consolidate power within the ranks of the Ecclesiarchy using these 5 chapters as his personal legion. Whereas most Adeptus Astartes Chapters operate independently and without supervision from any other Ministorum, the Ecclesiarchy suborned these chapters from start. Each was lead not by a chapter master but by an Grand Abbot who though not trained in tactics or strategy was none the less useful in instilling the Imperial Cult and its doctrine above that of the Astartes traditions. In the case of the Angels Aequitas, the Abbots and priests who presided over the chapter used the predilection for those of the Blood Angels gene seed to hold near fanatical adoration of their Primarch Sanguinius as part of their specific Cult framework. Though Sanguinius was the first Blood Angel, the Aequitas were also taught that Sanguinius was also a trueborn child of the Emperor, born of flesh and blood unlike the other primarch who were simply “created.” Thus the Ecclesiarch minders reasoned with there, that the true Primarch they should adore and venerate is not simply Sanguinus their Father but the Emperor himself.

As the hammer and anvil for the Ecclesiarchy, the Angels Aequitas believed themselves to be golden, shining beacons of Truth, Sanctity, and Justice. Due to the secret and rushed founding of thier chapter, the Aequitas never received more than a score of Terminator armor. However, as they served primarily as a retribution and purgation force, their preferred doctrine was quick lightning strikes, relying on Jump Packs, Drop Pods, as well as Air and Ground Assault vehicles. They embraced their angelic birthright and fielded nearly double the normal number of Sanguinary Guard, and tripled the number of Assault Squads from 20 out of every 100 marines to 60. They employed bikes and speeders to a great degree and were quick to commit to hand to hand combat rather than rely on Fortifications or Devastating Heavy weapons.

For nearly 500 years the Aequitas served in blissful ignorance of the nature of their founding nor the true masters their Ecclesiarch minders served. During this time they saw their numbers grow from 500 marines to 750 but the overall size of the Aequitas Conclave grew to over 5000 as the Eccelisarchy added many cultists and serfs to the battle roster. This made some senior marines uncomfortable but the Grand Abbot assured them that these others were simply fellow beleivers in the GodEmperor.

When Warp Storm Dionys opened, and the ensuing chaos rifts which plagued hundreds of Chapter homeworlds, Basillius would eventually judge 30 of these chapter as tainted by Chaos, and order them to undertake what would become known as the Abyssal Crusade where in 29 of 30 chapters were either lost to Warp, Destroyed in Battle, or corrupted by chaos. Though it would be nearly a millennia later, after the remaining Vorpal Sword returned, that Basillius would be exposed as an Apostle of Chaos and have his bones thrown in the sun, his cult purged, all records of his memory expunged, and his shrine world utterly destroyed.

All this however was hidden from thee Angels Aequitas themselves. The Puritas Division had been sent away with a large proselytizing and colonizing fleet to the Segmentum Obscurus to safeguard worlds to be planted both with humanity and the Imperial Cult.

It is here we discover both the death of the Angels Aequitas, who purpose was enforcing EcclesiJustice, and rebirth of the chapter as the Sanguine Mortalis

"Death is Truth, Truth is Life"

Shortly after the death of Basillius, the chapter received word that the Puritas chapters would be disbanded. It was in this transition that the secret servants of Chaos who had been planted inside each chapter by Basillius decided to strike. Apparently tired of waiting or simply hoping to capitalize on the lack of Ecclesiarchy oversight, took steps to a play to take control of the Angels Aequitas. As the daily Mass ended, the Corrupted Abbot unleashed a hellstorm of psychic energy into the gathered Ascetics and Ardents of the Chapter who were deepest in the Cathedral aboard the chapter’s Monastery Barge. This cowardly treachery took many experienced and irreplace marines by surprise but even this would not have rendered Sons Sanguinus helpless, except during the initial blast from the Abbot, many of his minions were busy summoning denizens of the warp. Nearly 300 horrors of blue and pink emerged from the warp and began to ravage the assembled marines. Of the senior battle brothers only a scarce four score and seven survived out of more than 300 and of those gathered in the entire cathedral less than 300 remained who possessed the blood of Sanguinus.

Among the dozens of Battle Brothers who had rallied and faced the hell spawn with fists, knives, and teeth, was Flavius Cassius. Giving no regard to his own life or the harm he brought to his body, Cassius throw himself repeatedly at the enemy. Ripping jaws apart at the joint, gouging eyes from Skulls, and amputating claws one joint at time. Yet his struggles could not cease the tide of flesh and horror which had filled the cathedral and engulfed his brothers. As he and a handful of brothers stood guard over those who were either dead or dying, Cassius stepped forward in front of his brothers and Declared "I shall go first, so that in my death others may live." In that moment, Cassius began to see a vision of his true father. This vision of the Golden Angel clashing repeatedly with the Arch Traitor was the one Chaplains had taught him to to fear because it would destroy him. Yet even as he watched the lifeblood spill from Sanguinus, Cassius did not feel the accompanying anger that he'd been warned to expect.

Though he felt great sorrow and loss over the death of his blood father, Cassius also felt a surprising peace, a peace borne of the knowledge that though Death comes for us all, Death in the service of others is to shape the future.

So totally taken unaware by the treachery and heresy, that the entire chapter should have been lost except for the intervention of a score and a half of wraiths. These Marines whose armor was black but who were themselves entirely wreathed in fire. These strange marines, emerged from nothing and went about their work with swift deadly proficiency. The fire which that never consumed them, and though it emitted a bright brilliant light, no heat emanated from them. First only able to stand in awe but then finding the curious to following these spectral saviors, Cassius watched as they eliminated not only the horrors of the warp but every heretic and traitor aboard the Fortress Monastery. In doing so he was able to also rescue other brothers among them, Fortis Amicus, though now a respected sanguinary priest, had once a an acolyte's cell with Cassius.

Before leaving, one of the ghostly marines visited with Flavius Cassius, the man who would become the first Exemplar Mortalis.

"We came for you, brother."

"For me?" Cassius did not know how to interpret the apparition's words. Were they a threat, did they mean to harm what few brothers he still had remaining?

"yes for you, we saw in you a good death."

"A good death Death exists to serve to Life” he said “ In death, one discovers truth, and in so doing the discover life”

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

Another prodigal chapter has answered the founding Chapters Call and returned home to Baal to seek truth in the face of death, to test their blood and prove to all they are true heirs to the courage and loyalty of Sanguinus.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

After nearly two millennia of constant warfare on the out edges of the galaxy, the Sanguine Mortalis do not engage in prolonged sieges nor do they field many tactical squads. Most of the Battle Brothers are trained in jump pack assault, boarding actions, and air and ground vehicle assault.

They only have a small cadre of Terminators but have in the far reaches of the galaxy found a new way to bind machine spirits and fallen Brothers. Though no Mortalis fears death, to remain in search of the Truth even after death is the greatest honor the chapter can bestow. Thus the Chapter maintains nearly 100 Dreadnaughts of various patterns and styles as they have scoured both space hulks, abandoned Forge Worlds, and worked with the Cult of the Machine.
