FW Heavy Weapons

I just recieved a set yesterday, but I bought the underslung version so I wouldn't have to deal with the cables.

But I do have experience with the cables of my dreadnought. After an hour of plunging it in boiling water, bending, fitting and cursing, I managed to get them in the right shape. I had to use greenstuff to fit the ends in the slots. The smaller cables might be easier to shape, but I'm staying far away from anything I have to reshape with boiling water.

Well if you don't enjoy it I doubt I will :(

I was just looking at those bolters. That's sexy gear man. You might have more succes at bending them than I have.

I had to bend thick cables in a S-form and in 2 narrow slots, and the plugs had to be inserted at the right angle. I used almost boiling water to bend it, but I had to work within 20 or so seconds. The angle of the plug was often misaligned, but heating the plug undid my previous bending. I couldn't use too much force since my glued parts snapped occasionally as well. After an hour of curses, I gave up on fitting the plug in there. I shaved the hole bigger, dunked in a blob of plastic cement and popped the cable in.

Keep in mind, I'm a total noob with FW, others might have better ways. Me, I'm not going to bother anymore with FW. I'm quite disappointed with the quality of my latest order, not something you should be able to say with the prices you're paying.

I got the Ryza Lascannons for my Iron Warriors and they were a real pain to heat and bend correctly, although I did it with nowhere near enough coffee or sleep, so your mileage may vary. whistlingW.gif

If you get them, watch out for a missing part of the cable that can stick out like a sore thumb as well if it's not placed correctly.

You are confirming my fears :(...

I really wanted a Contemptor or 3 + a Lev and Derdero.

I have the underslung lascannon and I'm thinking about just not attaching the cable at all. It's currently sitting as a straight rod and whenever I see it, I just cuss. It's especially bad if you paint in sub-assemblies, because there is no real way to get both a solid connection to the curved cable AND keep it easy to reach by not assembling the arm and backpack.

Contemptors go together easy enough, the leviathan cables are fairly simple too, the Deredeo was a little harder but since I paint then assemble there was only a minimum of fuss.

My technique is to actually boil the water and get it extremely pliable, once I have the shape I want I dunk it in cold water to lock the shape in, going back and forth as necessary to get the right shape. After all, painting hides a multitude of hobby sins :)
