Celestine & Geminae WIP Gallery

So...I decided to start a little WIP gallery on my progress painting Celestine and the Geminae. I'm trying lots of new things with this project -- new paint, new airbrush, new techniques. It's not very exciting right now but if you'd like to take a look go ahead!

(or should I just post the pics in this thread?)

Okay I'll post them here tomorrow, probably.

As for techniques, mostly it's airbrush-related. Trying to do things with an airbrush is almost (but not quite) completely new territory for me. Also, using the Vallejo Liquid Gold paint as the base. It's alcohol-based paint, but day-um does it look good. It's the best gold paint I've ever worked with (and I think I've pretty much tried them all).

The first shading was done with the airbrush, spraying thinned down Tamiya Smoke. It darkened up the gold nice and evenly, but it left it in a glossy state (which shouldn't have surprised me, Tamiya Smoke is glossy). Honestly I only washed Celestine with Agrax to knock off the shine. I may try spraying the Geminae with Agrax and see how that turns out, but probably not -- I want a consistent look.

I'm also going to be trying some new things with washes. I'd really like to get my hands on some of those GW "Tints" they released but they appear to be a limited release thing -- which makes me sad.

All I want to say at this moment is...if you lack amazing painting skills like I do, :cussing paint Celestine's (and the Geminae, I'm almost certain though I haven't attempted them yet) face before you assemble her.

Like, for real.

I have mucked her face up to the point where it's almost unsalvageable. I have made my peace with it, it's never going to look "right". I made a combination of mistakes and her face (and to some extent, her hands as well) are paying the price. Ugh.

Learn from my mistakes!
