Daemon2027
Its been a while. As many of you know I’m possible the worst for starting a project, changing the legion im working on, getting fed up, then disappearing for a bit. It got to the point where I lost all motivation for Space Marines. I tried to reignite the spark back in January, built and painted an Iron Warrior, but when the plastic mark III I ordered arrived I lost all interest. One of the biggest problems I have is striking the right balance between converting and output. I usually put a lot of effort into converting, but I want to get the models finished so I start to rush, then I hate the result. Conversely if I build a model out of the box, or with some kitbashing, I’m not satisfied with the final result. I’ve never been able to find a middle ground between the to, so I’ve decided to go for the latter, through myself into each model, but take my time, if it takes a month to build one model, so be it! I decided to go with the World Eaters. Betrayer is possibly my favourite Black Library novel (although I haven’t read anything since Vengeful Spirit). One of my favourite scenes is where the World Eaters are assaulting a planet, and we say the chaos that follows. Driven by the nails there is no coherence, dust smoke and ash fill the air, the coms are disrupted, and the Ultramarines are laying traps and ambushes. Only numbers and ferocity drive the World Eaters to victory. It got me thinking about a group of World Eaters, caught behind enemy lines, no unit or company coherence just banding together with any friendly’s they find, pushed by the nails to fight, but also by the desire to see victory. I feel this gives me the freedom to build and paint what I like without demanding a set list of models. I want a tank, they came across an armour group, air support, they got in contact with a fire raptor, etc. This will mostly be a (slow) modelling project so rule of cool will beat optimising, and it will probably look more like a kill team. So, work so far, Centurion something, right arm was temporally attached to give an idea of the direction of the model, the arm will need bulking up, and the axe shaft some work.. Left arm will hold a boarding shield in a relaxed stance which will hopefully give the model some movement. Not happy with the armour around the abdomen so will have to think on that. Thanks of looking. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332502-dogs-of-war-a-world-eater-project/ Share on other sites

Daemon2027
Also, did you ever try scraping the cured GS with a blade or sanding like I suggested that one time? I have been using a knife as I don't have any fine sandpaper, but I really need to get off my arse and get some because I find the knife tends to remove to much. The whole front of the torso is a mess at the moment really. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Use a fresh X-Acto blade that's super sharp, hold it at a 90° angle to the GS and very gently scrape the blade over it in downward strokes. It can really help smooth out rough GS, but the blade has to be extremely sharp. For sandpaper, I use 400, 600, and 800 grit that I get from an auto supply store. Daemon2027
I'll give the knife a go latter with a new blade, and try and get to the shops at some point for the sandpaper. The plan is to work slow anyway. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332502-dogs-of-war-a-world-eater-project/#findComment-4698053 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
More progress over the last few days. It's all starting to come together. Need to go back and smooth out the torso (knifes working well, thankes BCK). Axe broke so muddled it together somewhat, it's going to need a bit of attention. Dreagher
Already very promising! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332502-dogs-of-war-a-world-eater-project/#findComment-4703165 Share on other sites
Daemon2027
Already very promising! Thanks I've smoothed off the chest, added an extra layer and a bit of a trim. Now I just need to wait for all the GS to set then a bit more smoothing and I think he's ready for some paint.
