Charlo
Okay, long story short I seem to be missing the lower leg from the sprue of Custodes a friend graciously donated to me. Any examples of them having Bionic replacements? Because this may have to be what I do... Jackalwolf
Mmm considering the imperium has the technology in lore to regrow lost limbs (DA horus heresy novels when imperium arrives to Calibre), I'd assume that's the proffered solution for the custodes but, that said, you can make your own fluff to justify it. A couple ideas: - It is a patchwork during a key campaign that does not allow for the time consuming process of vat growing a new limb. - he lost the leg in a duel and has decided to keep a robotic replacement to showcase his shame until the day he redeems - it was a personal gift from Arkhan Land to replace a limb lost fitting besides him in the webway, a unique sample that is actually better than the real deal Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332509-custodes-bionics/#findComment-4698169 Share on other sites
1ncarnadine
The Custodians are noted as having an utterly ridiculous ability to recover from wounds. Two examples: In Master of Mankind there was one walking around with the back of his head mashed in (although it's commented that he's probably done for). And then in Inferno, Valdor duels a ton of Khenetai bladesmen and they wound him near-to-death, but then when he shows up with Russ to fight Phosis T'kar and Auramagma he's pretty much fully recovered. They've talked about that being why there are actually incredibly few Custodes Dreadnoughts, too. The margin between the point of critical injury at which they would be interred vs just dead is very narrow. They were built to last. I'm pretty certain that in making Custodians, the Emperor psychically reconfigures them on some level and binds their souls to his own. It's my theory on why daemons can't seem to possess them unless they're corpses, and how they can blink and have a vision-talk with the Emperor. In that vein, I wonder if their healing is related, and maybe they can visit with the Emperor and get some limbs psychically re-grown? Maybe they just have vat-grown materials reattached and the Emperor doesn't even need to be involved in something that mundane? Any which way, we haven't seen bionics on Custodians at all and any of the above could be why. ALL THAT BEING SAID, go for a robot leg. Don't bend over backwards for fluff; bend the fluff for yourself instead. There were 10,000 of these freaking guys, give or take, and one needing a bionic replacement is in no way unbelievable or outside of the realm of possibilities of this crazy sci-fi universe. There are so many reasons. It could be a crude temporary leg, as some Custodians are caught away from Terra as the Ruinstorm drops. It could be an incredibly elegant replacement, required due to the nature of the injury preventing normal healing (Rangda? Thousand Sons witchery? Webway monstrosities?). Whatever you want, man. b1soul
Yes...compared to Custodes, Astartes are fragile flower vases Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332509-custodes-bionics/#findComment-4698515 Share on other sites
Xenith
Peg leg. Or a wheel. Or give him a guardian spear to lean on and leave it as a stump. Like that Ultramarine Tetrarch who refused to get a bionic replacement for his arm because seeing him fighting on with only one arm was inspiring to the rest of the UM.
