Vash113
I've always been fond of BFG and your fleet looks great and frankly, is a more complex and detailed scheme than I usually see on BFG ships. Â Man I really hope Battlefleet Gothic gets a revival from GW what with Warhammer Quest and Necromunda coming back!
jamesvalentine
well andy chambers was principal designer on BFG and guess who is principal designer of Dropfleet Commander?...coincidence?

Bjorn Firewalker
Good job. One of the models looks like it came from a Chaos fleet. Is that model supposed to represent an honored relic from pre-Heresy times, a prize captured in battle, or...?
Olis
Nicely painted, brother. I bet they'd look damn fine on the tabletop. :tu:
Tallarn Commander
Bjorn, yes that is an imperial cruiser despite its chaos aesthetics. I think it's an Avenger type grand cruiser: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Avenger-class_Grand_Cruiser  If I recall correctly rules for these were first l made by the specialist games folks in the late 1990s/early 2000s in thei BFG zine. I think the fluff was that, as you suspect, these were really old cruisers. So old that many of these grand cruisers went over to chaos during the heresy. And I think I read somewhere where many loyalist grand cruisers still suffered from all sorts of odd accidents at innoprtune times (sort of like dreadclaw assault ships did before many captains just jettisoned them) because some of the ships cogitators or something were tainted by chaos.  At any rate, the fleet is gorgeous and the fleet's compsitoon is effective too. The actual Imperial Grand Cruiser has a slightly different prow that's sort of halfway between the chaos ships and the Imperial ships. I wish GW had kept a picture archive online of their old models, sort of like a digital museum. They had some great pics and it would be awesome to browse pics of different models through the ages. Instead the best we can get is internet archives, here's a link to an old archive of GW's store page when it still sold BFG models showing the Imperial range including the Grand Cruiser:  clicky

It is indeed a normal Chaos cruiser painted to match the imperials. The real Vengeance class cruiser has a different prow.
