Angmarred
Is there any "official" reference to how many companies the Sons of Horus had? The highest number I can find is 25. I'm working on a backstory for my custom Captain. Thanks. Ion
Considering the size of the Sons of Horus, and the fact that companies could range from a handful of marines to a thousand or so, I would say they have well over 100. Can't find where the source is from, but this quote helps: "There was no fixed strength for a company within the Luna Wolves and the Sons of Horus. While other Legions codified and enforced strict limits on the size of similar formations, this was not the case amongst the Sons of Horus, which had begun in more regimented form, but had become increasingly ad hoc in structure and disposition over time. Company strengths as small as 36 and as large 972 Astartes were recorded by datafactors during the XVIth Legion's action against the Dasim Patrimony, for example." Sons of Horus don't have grand companies, or chapters, or anything like that, there's just the squads and the company, so they're bound to have a lot. Just go for a higher end number and you should be safe. Angmarred
That's what I thought. If 972 is high, then they have to have at least 100 companies. I wanted to do 52, just wanted to be sure that wasn't a crazy number, and I don't think it is. Ion
972 was the high end of that particular campaign, but considering the way that the Legion functioned, I can't imagine that companies would get much larger than 1000 because Horus liked to mix and match his troops depending on circumstances and bloating would make that unwieldy. I think it's a reasonable assumption that they had at least that many companies, and wouldn't bat an eye at there being a 52nd company Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332580-how-many-companies-did-the-sons-of-horus-have/#findComment-4700615 Share on other sites
depthcharge12
I have it on good credit that they had precisely "eleventy-seven" companies.... :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/332580-how-many-companies-did-the-sons-of-horus-have/#findComment-4700764 Share on other sites
Calas Typhon
When looking into the Reaver units in the Sons, many tend to move in their own companies as far as I know, or as separate warbands under a chieftain. If this is to go on, It would work as a small group of Reavers (1-2 squads) to hundreds of Astartes in a reaver company. Assuming some of the other sections of the Legion were to to this as well, it would allow for a VERY large amount of companies.
