Shadow War Kill Team Background

Recommended Posts

What is your planned background for your kill team?

I am considering to build my team as either a Recon Squad of the 187th Campbell Regiment, a light Infantry regiment from a civilized world. A veteran of many small scale actions throughout the Imperium, the 187th Regiment has many times been the only Imperial Regiment in a system resulting in a higher than normal level of initiative in even the lowest level of leader. The regiment has just deployed following the cleansing of a nearby moon if Feral Orks.

The other option is a team of Space Marine Chapter Serf Master at Arms deployed from a strike cruiser attached to the local Adeptus Arbites Provost Marshall to help pacify Hive Archon. Due to their nature working with the Space Marines Chapters they are more suited for dealing with more classified threats as Genestealers and Chaos Cultists than your normal deputized PDF.

Close protection team from the 50th Elysian Regiment "The Dirty Half-Hundred". Originally tasked with extracting high level dignitaries and imperial officers out of over-run sectors of besieged hives. The squad were shot down in their valkyrie and forced to fight their way back to friendly territory.

No confirmation on gear yet, but by the sounds of it 10 guys with carapace armour and an assortment of weapons is doable to start.

Castellan Stephan's Neophyte Crusade, started in M41.1212.

Seeing the rules for "scout sergeant" and his access to hellfire round and power swords, this might be led by Castellan Stephan himself or one of his huscarls, a particularly gritty Sword Brother. Yes.

Sergeant Callien of the 19th Lambdan Lions was deployed alongside Mechanicus forces when he was issued what he considered to be a suicidal order by his colonel superior. Rather than rushing an enemy position head-on, he worked around behind it, and attacked from the rear. Though his objective was accomplished, the extra time it took meant that operations elsewhere were compromised, and the colonel's squad was assaulted directly. The colonel's final order, before dying from a mortal wound, was that Callien's squad be executed for their cowardice.

Magos Dominus Tholivar Seht, overseer of the entire operation, claimed the right and responsibility to conduct this execution. The ten so-called "cowards" disappeared, and were never heard from again.

In what must surely be total coincidence, a squad of highly skilled soldiers (lacking any formal identification) later appeared under the command of Magos Seht, carrying out missions of particular importance - especially those for which the Skitarii would be for some reason unsuitable.

{I'm looking at a IG/Scions type team, but wanted to tie it into my Admech structure as well.}

Totally had the same association xD

One of my Killteams is going to be a squad of Steel Legion troopers who have been cut off from the Imperial forces during the First War for Armageddon - my opponent will be Chaos!

The other will be a team of miners who have been down in the depths of the Hive for a very long time and rise up looking mutated and how shall we say gribbly? Extra limbs and such... :P

10th Squad of the 10th Company from the Raven Guard Chapter, led by Sergeant Ty'Kos will be conducting a "dawn patrol" within the mechanical ruins.  This is a way for him to battle train the new recruits under his command.

Huh. Oddly enough there aren't any Raven guard, Imperial Fists, or Black Templar skill trees for their teams.

I don't know what chapter I want to do though. I was thinking Ultramarines, or maybe Red Hunters or an Imperial Fists sucessor. They might not have been at Armageddon, but I like them.

Sons of Guilliman:

Trooper (Combat, Agility, Shooting)

Specialist (Ferocity, Guerilla, Shooting, Stealth)

Leader (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Agility, Shooting, Stealth

Blood Angels:

Trooper (Combat, Ferocity, Agility)

Specialist (Ferocity, Guerilla, Shooting, Stealth)

Leader (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Agility, Shooting, Stealth)

Salamanders:

Trooper (Ferocity, Muscle, Shooting)

Specialist (Ferocity, Guerilla, Shooting, Stealth)

Leader (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Muscle Shooting, Stealth)

White Scars:

Trooper (Ferocity, Agility, Stealth)

Specialist (Ferocity, Guerilla, Agility, Stealth)

Leader (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Agility, Shooting, Stealth)

Space Wolves:

Trooper (Combat, Ferocity, Shooting, Stealth)

Specialist (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Shooting, Stealth)

Leader (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Muscle, Shooting, Stealth)

Angels of Redemption:

Trooper (Combat, Shooting, Stealth)

Specialist (Combat, Ferocity, Shooting, Stealth)

Leader (Combat, Ferocity, Guerilla, Agility, Shooting, Stealth)

Those are the Space Marine tables!

My forgeworld, St Hoagland, launches and supports a lot of explorator fleets and forces dedicated to defending beleaguered forgeworlds and other Mechanicus assets. So with the industry and ancient hives under dire threat of tech-defilement by Ork Meks an Archeotech expedition will divert to assist in the defense. And if irreplaceable machinery have to be relocated off-world to ensure their safety then so be it...

My kill team will be trying to protect the promethium machinery and the resource, but will also have a techpriest scrutinising their data feed and directing them to remove any archaeotech they encounter.

My kill team will be a squad of lexicanium librarians from the Legio Bolter & Chainsword (using the Grey Knights rules).

Brother Brule, I love this Lexicanum Librarians-in-Training idea represented by GK rules. This is a great little project, Librarians with just an Aegis hood before they got their full higher-rank robes. We talked about these ideas in the News & Rumours thread, really like how you made this real, I might have to copy you.

10th Squad of the 10th Company from the Raven Guard Chapter, led by Sergeant Ty'Kos will be conducting a "dawn patrol" within the mechanical ruins. This is a way for him to battle train the new recruits under his command.

Meh, I'll just use Ultramarines because ... why not? Heck, I don't even know what trees are available so pirate.gif

Brother Roger, thx to Brother Krast, you have the list of skill trees above and IMHO, the Angels of Redemption tree, meant for Dark Angels & Successors I think, actually suit the Raven Guard more than the DA. Stealth is the big one IMHO that really matches your Shrouded and Night-Fight Chapter Tactics, then Shooting for Sniper Scouts that're popular among the RG, then some close Combat skills to represent their great Assault Squads (once they "graduate" from 10th Company).

I'm in a similar situation and I'll just share my approach, since we're in the same boat. I want to do Imperial Fists (for a Shadow War: Necromunda campaign, which happens to also be an IF recruiting world). No IF skill tree yet, but I anticipate it'll soon come out in White Dwarf, Warhammer Community or both. I'll use Sons of Guilliman in the meantime, just lean on their Codex Astartes, but I'll just invest in Shooting, because I'm sure any official IF rules will have the Shooting tree to reflect Bolter Drills.

In your case, I reckon it'll be just the Stealth tree for you. Whenever the chance to pump a skill comes up, just use the Stealth skill for now, and I'm pretty sure the yet-to-be-released RAW for the missing Chapters will prove us right.

(On that note, I'm pretty sure Iron Hands and Successors should get Guerrilla skills, which is the new version of Necromunda's Techno tree.)

Apart from Chaos I'm going with a Spire Reclamation team using the Guard rules. These will be a mix of ex-cons and blue collar workers whose job it is to go into the nastier, deeper and darker parts of the Hive to conduct surveys, perform minor repair work, maybe clean out the scavvies and mutants once in a while and report back any findings of lost tech. The war might be raging on above but these guys still have a job to do.
