Ghorgul
Hey,I started building an army for myself a while back and have been playing around with armylists a lot. I wanted to build Jump Infantry heavy list, mostly due to Night Lords rules comboing well with Jump Infantry. After having played around a lot with both Angel's Wrath and Drop Assault Vanguard RoW, I ended up with standard AoD FoC as those RoWs I find both limiting and still a bit expensive as I don't have any flyers available atm. I'm also fond of kind of In-Your-Face style while having some sort of ranged support for the assaulting units. Here is the Armylist I came up with: HQ: Centurion - Chaplain Warlord Jump Pack, Nostraman Chainglaive, AA, Melta bombs.125 pts Centurion - Master of Signal Jump Pack 115 pts Elites: Contemptor Dreadnaught Chainfist, Dreadnaught CCW, 2x Meltagun 215 pts Legion Terminator Squad 5 man, 2x Chainfist, 4x Combi-Weapon, Teleportation TransponderSergeant: Nostraman Chainglaive, Combi-Weapon 245 pts Troops: 2x Legion Assault Squad 10 man Sergeant: AA, Nostraman Chainglaive, Melta Bombs, Combat Shield 203 pts Legion Recon Squad 5 man, Nuncio-vox 5 Sniper rifle, Sergeant Blank Rhino 170 pts Fast Attack: Dreadclaw 115 pts Javelin Squadron 2 Javelins, Multi-Melta, 2x Hunter-Killer, TL Cyclone 150 pts Legion Tarantula Battery 2 Tarantula, TL Lascannons 90 pts Heavy Support: Legion Whirlwind Scorpius 115 pts Rough plan: Either Terminators or Dreadnought go to the Dreadclaw and deep strike. Chaplain will go with one assault squad. Tarantulas deploy either aggressively or defensively depending on enemy army. For me their function is mostly 1) harrassment 2) area denial. MoS will hang out with either Tarantulas or Whirlwind. Both MoS and Recon can be utilized as LoS givers to Whirlwind with Nuncio-voxes, depending on need. Javelins will either run at enemy to destroy high value targets, or deep strike. Recon will scout ahead either with Rhino or alone. Rhino can be optionally used as screen for chaplains Assault Squad. Modelwise I'm still missing the Whirlwind, part of Assault marines, Tarantulas and Javelins. All of these I will aqcuire anyway as they are quite useable units all in all. Even though I'm kind of set on the models, I would really like to hear feedback on both Anti-armour and anti-infantry aspects of the list. All thoughts and ideas and suggestions are most welcome! Some questions of my own: 1. Ditch MoS and get Damocles instead? (I really like the model!) 2. What do you think of Tarantulas? Lord Asvaldir
Regarding your specific questions, I think the MoS is a waste considering you don't really have any squads that need a BS boost (difference between bs4 and 5 for blast weapons isn't worth a hundred pts), so yes the damocles would be far more useful, especially since any deep strike oriented list in the future could make great use of a damocles. Truth be told though, the damocles isn't all that useful either since a) the dreadclaw doesn't need accurate deep strike thanks to being able to flat out and internal guidance and b) it's not worth a hundred pts to make one unit in deep strike reserves come in on a +2. Save the pts for something else. I think tarantulas are mediocre. Don't add a whole lot of firepower and you don't get to choose your target, when you could take for a slightly higher price a javelin which you can choose targets for and has excellent firepower for its pts cost. Rather just take more javelins over tarantulas. Regarding the rest of the list, I think you could better optimize a few choices. For example, assault marine squads are far better at fifteen strong since you get 3 power weapons and their pts/m cost goes down. Could easily drop the MoS and just take more assault marines and add in power weapons. Also the recon squad is doing very little. You're spending more pts than the whirlwind itself just for a nuncio vox, since the squad won't do much else. Again more assault marines would be worth more. One last small note, graviton guns are far better on the dreadnought than melta guns, since they are nearly guaranteed to strip 2 hp off even a flare shielded spartan, while meltas won't even be able to scratch a flare shield. Footslogging isn't great for cc oriented dreadnoughts either, so I'd highly recommend dropping him in the pod and letting the terminators just use their transponders. Ghorgul
Alright, thanks for the feedback Asvaldir! I agree with the Damocles, it doesn't really fill any clear role in the list at these points and units. However for future if I expand to higher pts, I think it can still fill a spot. 2nd iteration of my list: What was removed: Recon Squad, MoS and Tarantulas. This is a shame, as I really like Recons but they are so bad unit, sad. What was added: Sky slayer Squadron with Volkites, +Men & p.axes to Assault Squads, Dreadnaught got 2x graviton. HQ: (125 pts) Centurion - Chaplain Warlord Jump Pack, Nostraman Chainglaive, AA, Melta bombs, Trophies of Judgement.125 pts Elites: (450 pts) Contemptor Dreadnaught Chainfist, Dreadnaught CCW, 2x Graviton gun 215 pts Legion Terminator Squad 5 man, 1x Chainfist, 4x Combi-Weapon, P.axes, Teleportation TransponderSergeant: Nostraman Chainglaive, Combi-Weapon 235 pts Troops: (524 pts) 2x Legion Assault Squad 13 man, 2x Power Axe Sergeant: AA, Nostraman Chainglaive, Melta Bombs, Combat Shield 262 pts Fast Attack: (265 pts) Dreadclaw 115 pts Javelin Squadron 2 Javelins, Multi-Melta, 2x Hunter-Killer, TL Cyclone 150 pts Heavy Support: (385 pts) Jetbike sky slayer support squadron 4 jetbikes, Volkite Culverins, Melta-bombs 270 pts Legion Whirlwind Scorpius 115 pts So the Order of Battle would be this: Dreadnaught comes with Dreadclaw, Terminators deep strike later. No nuncio-vox available, but the items range is limited anyway, so not sure how much recon's nuncio-vox would have even helped with this.Terminators combi-weapons will be plasma, so they can smoke something tough. I left only 1 chainfist for terminators as I think enemy armor can easily kite around them if they just Deep Strike. Assault marines, Dreadclaw and Jetbikes charge at enemy. Jetbikes will go after enemy artillery/other soft targets as they should be able to easily tie up those, or alternatively against tanks without AC. With them I'm kind of in between Volkites and Multi-meltas. Volkites are better as they still have statistical ability to do something if they are forced to jink. Any thoughts on Jetbikes?
