Lephisto
Hi guys, just need your opinion on this product: Air Compressor Just wondering if this is suitable for air brushing models? The colors I use for my army are Kantor Blue - Caldor Blue and then onto Fenrisian Grey. Would I still use those colors to build highlights or should I do a different recipe because I'm going to use an airbrush? in advance, thank you for any help or any suggestions you give! Imren
That one looks like a very big industrial grade compressor (with 8L tank!). those tend to be very noisy and not very suitable for home use. also, it says that it comes without regulator for airbrushing. Also it comes without moisture trap. I would advise against that compressor. For that price I'd recommend the Sparmax TC-610H, comes with a 2.5L tank, moisture trap and pressure regulator. I'd say this is the best buy you'll do getting into airbrushing (As a tradeoff between quality and price). Make sure you empty the tank after every time you use it by venting off the bottom valve and letting condensed water from the tank to get out, this prevents corrosion inside the tank. Brother Desultor
For that price I'd recommend the Sparmax TC-610H, comes with a 2.5L tank, moisture trap and pressure regulator. I second this recommendation - great compressor. Especially as the newer version, the Plus, is now available. Imren
Regarding the GW paints you mention and want to use with your airbrush, I recommend you to either get the "air" variants of the them or use the regular versions but thin them with acrylic thinner. I find Vallejo's acrylic airbrush thinner pretty good at this. Even with the airbrush versions you might want to thin them further, especially when airbrushing the highlights. Also when you airbrush highligths. Make sure you use the "spray cone edge and angling technique", meaning that carefully bring your model to the edge of the spray cone of the airbrush at an angle so that the spot where the highlight is required carefully catches paint from the spray cone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333015-new-to-air-brushing/#findComment-4715137 Share on other sites
