CaptainKael
I am trying to put together a 20 man Assault squad with combat shields for my Dark Angels. However, I am torn on how to model the shields. Sourcing single 40k plastic shields from a bits seller is not really a viable option; either supply is too short meaning it may take weeks/months to get the amount I need or it is just too expensive. I am also not a big fan of what 40k plastic shields I know to exist; every one I have is covered in iconography and would be hard to remove. Outside of officers and sgts, I don't feel like most legionnaires should be so ornate. There is also the problem of mounting it to Mk II armor. Most of the 40k bits already have the arm molded to the shield (and always in the left hand), so it would take a lot of cutting and shaving to make it look decent. Ideally, I am looking for a medieval looking heater shield, something that would go with the DA's knightly motif (sword and board). Every shield should be the same size and shape (minus perhaps the sgt). Bonus points if the shield can be mounted in either hand and is rather flat/plain. I can always paint my own patterns on them to make them distinctive. Does anyone have any bits suggestions (GW, FW or 3rd party) or mind posting their own work? WhatTheBlazes
I think Anvil Industries have some shields that could work? Very reasonably priced, too. Sandlemad
Time was WHFB Bretonnian shields would've done the job perfectly as plain heater shields, particularly for DA. Unfortunately since AoS they've become hard to come by. That said, there's several generations of OOP plastic empire and bretonnian shields that fit the bill, very plain and without any hands attached, some of which came with starter sets and the like, so you might be able to grab a batch of them on ebay. Alternatively there's these 3d-printed guys: https://www.shapeways.com/product/73QBLMBLL/horseshoe-combat-shields-x10?optionId=62412600 Same shape as the basic 40k combat shield, quite unelaborate (once you remove the UM icon, though ask and the creator could probably make a plain one), suitable for either hand. Or for a different style: https://www.shapeways.com/product/4V3Y9RLEX/10x-blank-aggressor-2-combat-shields?optionId=60501309 They have a bolt pistol incorporated and they're only suitable for the left hand but they're fairly plain 30k astartes-tech. Oxydo
This guy is also an alternative. https://www.facebook.com/MisterLaserShields/?fref=ts I'm probably gonna pick up some AL shields soonish myself. K3nn3rs
I'd highly recommend the ML Shields on FB(link in post above). I used his Black Fist shields for my IF breachers - I'm very happy with the quality of the products. CaptainKael
Thank you for the suggestions everyone. I contacted the merchant from Sandlemad's first link as those most closely matched my vision. He said that he can design either plain or DA shields this week.
