Kastor Krieg
All right, so here I was, thinking about the way I could deal with playing SWA in an urban environment, on the cheap. Bought myself a proper mat (gamemat.eu), it's cool. Smashed together the SWA box terrain, used it for the center part, sprinkled some of the smaller pieces across the board. Neat. Then I used two paper-folding terrain sets for Corvus Belli Infinity, to show off two separate "districts" on both sides of the promethium relay line. One is more lived in, the other more military / industrial. Seems to have worked out nicely. I've added some unfinished, half-built vehicles (three vindicators, a land raider, a sicaran hull, the shields of vindies used as barricades, etc.). It all looked like that: http://i.imgur.com/UQrt09T.jpg http://i.imgur.com/X1iZkgd.jpg Then, I've noticed something. There are sewer / technical access manholes along the promethium sprawl line. http://i.imgur.com/nJlrXfJ.jpg And then an epiphany hits me. One of the bits from the SWA, the huge ass manhole cover on hinges? I've seen that bastard somewhere! A quick browse through my "alternate terrain box" where I keep the Space Hulk and other game tiles and... voila! http://i.imgur.com/r23oAmc.jpg One of the tiles from Overkill fits the design perfectly! And you know what THAT means? I quickly checked the relative positions of the manholes on the gamemat, added the SWA bit on one end in a strategical position. http://i.imgur.com/KRXR057.jpg And then, using this angle as point of reference: http://i.imgur.com/2G6tdBO.jpg I've assembled the Overkill terrain tiles into a treacherous underground labirynth of hive gantries! http://i.imgur.com/ptjubem.jpg The manholes are where you'd expect them in reference to the table. This doubles the size and utility of the table! You can fight underground now! Over the ground, as well! Panzer
Not a fan of paper terrain but it sure looks good. If nothing else it helps planning the terrain for a themed table before actually going and buying/painting proper terrain pieces. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333162-swa-a-fairly-novel-idea-for-an-urban-4x4-table/#findComment-4717094 Share on other sites
Kastor Krieg
Yeah, but see - I got it for free with the Infinity boxes, it's dirt cheap ($10) if I wanted more of the same, it's colorful, looks okay, so what do I care, right? :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333162-swa-a-fairly-novel-idea-for-an-urban-4x4-table/#findComment-4717101 Share on other sites

Kastor Krieg
Thanks! And for anyone trying to do the same - that's a double set of Overkill tiles. I've done the same thing in case of Overkill, Space Hulk, Prospero, Calth, Assassinorum, etc - buy a box, buy 2nd set of tiles off a bloke for cheap. Then you can use both sides of the tiles! The Prospero ones will make a gorgeous table and the Assassinorum ones are a great side board like this one, as well, with an underground temple. Kastor Krieg
That'd be great for SW:A zone mortalis style games This is the original reason why I've bought two sets of each of the tiles :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333162-swa-a-fairly-novel-idea-for-an-urban-4x4-table/#findComment-4717217 Share on other sites
BrotherCaptainArkhan
Great idea Kastor. Love to see more pics if you got 'em, particularly of games in progress and how you found the idea worked in practice.
