Sisters of Chaos?

Fun story. So you know the "taboo" against female space marines? Well I figured me up a sort of a "joke army" concept to be antagonists against my main chaos characters.

The Siege Dancers. Slaaneshi Iron Warriors that through the Obliterator virus and surgeries are all male to female transgendered in the Most Bible Black/taking it too far way possible.

Their leader is a Daemon Prince(ss) who has...powers similar to the astronaut from Species 2, and He/she/it really likes to use those powers in making new space marines daemonculaba style.

Its not fun for them unless someone doesn't want to receive their affections. They also have a Space Wolf who joined up with them because he wanted to go back to beating and pillaging, and he looks a lot like Bennet from Commando (chainmail vest, porn-stache and all)

They attack Sisters a lot (as you do as No means yes marines) right up until Abaddon tires of their continual unreliability and sends the Nightblades to bring them to heel.

Strike-Commander Alphonse Kell sends his two subcommanders and 5 chosen.

It was a lovely Tea Party.

Without going into the whole "Sisters can't be corrupted, but what about that one who was..." there is a way...kind of.

Basically you could use Sisters models or models appropriate and state that the wearers aren't actually Sisters, but a group of female Chaos Cultists who murdered a number of Sororitas and took their armour, defiling them for the Chaos Gods. The rest of the Sororitas vowed to get the armour back, chasing these Cultists wherever they appear.

Nearly all chaos sisters are slaaneshi for reasons that can be summed with "women are for porn." Nobody ever made what real slaaneshi sisters would be, a group calling themselves the Queens of Metal that puts the Noise Marines' killer guitar solos to shame.

Sisters following their most likely patron, Khorne, appear less than one tenth of the time compared to naked lesbian nuns with phallic guns. Probably a good thing considering all the geniuses joking about the Red Rage. (When they really should joke about the Black Thirst - never get between a woman and her coffee.)

I believe Furyou_Miko has sisters of Tzeentch, but I don't know if they're genuine fallen sisters or the rubric'd armors of dead sororitas.

Never seen a sister of Nurgle, nor one of Malal or Chaos Undivided (whether the last one still exists or not).

Plus they have not heard the soothing tones of Lorgar. He basically wrote their bible anyway, if anyone can de brainwash them it would be him.

I believe Furyou_Miko mentioned several times the sect based on his book was wiped out by another sect that went on to become the Ecclesiarchy, so Lorgar actually didn't write their holy texts.

Or, y'know, just call 'em 'Queen' and have them go into battle in pink cardies and moustaches... :P

Yeah, giving sisters chainaxes is probably easier than giving them electric guitars.

Here's some inspiration:

edit: some more inspiration, though it's not power-armored:

I'm more partial to them dressing up like KISS.

Yeah, I can't tell a musical genre from another. tongue.png

Ah, the old "Chaos Sisters" chestnut, AKA the subject that revs up Sisters players into a frothing rage. (Which is understandable as they're usually done atrociously).

IMO, it CAN be done...albeit with difficulty. There's three ways of doing them:

1: Cultists/Traitor Guard that have looted the armour of fallen Sisters and used them for themselves. Easy to justify and totally lore-friendly.

2: Trevak Dal's idea- transsexual CSMs. The wonders of the Warp (and typical CSM body modification, Chaotic or otherwise) means it's not exactly unlikely that some sick filth decided to turn themselves into women/androgynes to screw with the enemy. Probably works best with Slaaneshi warbands if only because they're the ones with the biggest penchant for bio-heresy.

3: Actual traitor Sisters. The most difficult but also the most interesting potentially. IMO the whole "Sisters are incorruptible" thing is Imperial propaganda, as even though they're as devout and zealous as the average Space Marine, they are still mortal- and if even the Space Marines are liable to turn traitor, then it's not a stretch of the imagination that the Sororitas would become turncoats.

For each of the five alignments I'd say the following would work:

Undivided: Probably the easiest to do as this could account for all sorts of not explicitly Chaotic reasons for treachery. Be it perceived betrayal by the Inquisition or other elements of the Imperium ("Those bastards Exterminatus'd our shrine world!") or simple exposure to horrors that strips them of their faith in the Emperor ("The Emperor does not protect. We are all doomed.") there's loads of ways one could do undivided traitor Sisters. Perhaps have them pull a Soul Drinkers and decide the Imperium itself is corrupt and has diverged from the path of the Emperor, and go about cleansing the Imperium itself (not knowing they are being manipulated by greater powers).

If one wanted to get REALLY creative, perhaps have some Warp time travel shenanigans- the Sisters accidentally get flung back to the Horus Heresy and witness the fall of one of the original Legions. The sight of the finest of all the Emperor's servants being perverted to the powers of Chaos would completely destroy their faith in the Emperor, and they join up with Horus' forces in the Siege of Terra before retreating to the Eye with the rest of the Traitor Legions.

As far as modelling goes, anything goes (though I'd keep as much of the Sister aesthetic as possible for Undivided Traitor Orders).

Khorne: Out of the four actual gods, this is definitely the simplest to do. An Order is a little bit too fond of the ol' smiting and this eventually gives way to excommunication and worship of the Blood God. You get the idea. Also goes well with their distrust of Psykers.

With modelling, it's not difficult to imagine how they'd look- lots of skulls, spikes and general brutish aesthetics. I'd keep them well armoured though, because contrary to popular belief, Khorne DOES care from whence the blood flows, at least if the blood flowing prevents a greater flow of blood from elsewhere. Daemonically infused Sisters might forgo armour if only because they don't need it though if you really need your Sisters to #freethenipple.

Nurgle: Sisters of Nurgle would arise from the same thing every Nurgle following arises from- despair and desperation. Be it the Death Guard Classic (excruciating plague strikes down Sisters Order but doesn't kill them, and they end up giving themselves to Nurgle to end the pain) or something more original (for example, Order takes the fight to a Nurgle-infested hive, triumphs but is judged tainted by the Inquisition and go on the run, believe themselves forsaken by the Emperor and then along comes Nurgle and his emissaries going full "Nurgle loves you!" you know the rest), the root cause is always "Only through me shall you be saved", which is a rather fitting fall for a religious army.

Modelling wise, lots of potential. Nurgle is always a fun one to model and combined with the cool "church militant" look of the Sisters you could get something really cool going on. Ironically enough, given that Nurgle's thing is fertility and fecundity (at least, for diseases, fungus, flies and Nurglings) you'd actually have far more of an excuse for "sexualized" Sisters (albeit ones covered in sores, boils and tumours). Of course only an actual Nurgle worshipper would find them sexy, but that's kind of the point. In fact, you could potentially make some really brilliantly disturbing conversions for a Nurgle Sister army, up to and including a Daemon Prince(ss) "Grandmother".

Slaanesh: Oh boy, Slaaneshi Sisters. Where to begin? Well, how about some original concepts? For one, Slaanesh is about excess in ALL its forms, not just lust/carnality. So that opens up some potential for interesting backstory. Perhaps they were a bit overzealous with the whole "repentance" thing and began to take more interest in making themselves (and others) suffer for perceived sins than, you know, not being filthy heretics. This might start innocently enough (just being overly remorseful/penitent and employing an Imperial Fists-esque attitude to redemption) but slowly builds into a fixation on pain and suffering and "washing away the sins". They might not even know they're feeding Slaanesh until it's too late. Alternatively, the particular Order has an obsession with hoarding relics and riches, until they become completely consumed by material greed and coveting "relics". They could take the Emperor's Children or Flawless Host's path to downfall with a mania for perfection- literally "Holier than Thou" except to the degree they start attacking other Orders they believe are heretics. If you really, really want to go with a sexual theme then that could be done too with some degree of finesse- an overzealous Canoness accidentally commits the "Do not do this cool thing" error with regards to sex/romance, withholding all knowledge beyond "It's filthy" from initiates and going on such massive tangents about it mid-sermon that Sisters who wouldn't otherwise bother to even think about such things begin to wonder "Is it really that bad? Maybe I should find out more about it" and before long it snowballs into a depraved cult that eats the Order from the inside. TLDR: Any kind of Excess leads to Slaanesh. As a non-sexual alternative to that approach, a Sisters Order could come across some bizarre new sensation that completely takes the puritan Sisterhood by surprise and leaves them wanting more, in a sort of "culture shock" way. It might be something completely innocuous, such as delicious food offered by a feral world tribe (who of course are covert/unwitting Chaos worshippers) or it might be something completely bizarre like the psychophonic music of Noise Marines. Either way, the Sisters go "Hang on, I want in on this!" and abandon their former faith.

On the modelling front, there's a few ways of approaching Slaaneshi Sisters (other than just BOOBS LOLOLOLOL). Given the whole "Redemption through pain" thing, the previously mentioned backstory for Slaanesh Sororitas (that is, taking the whole flagellation thing much too far) and the rather Dominatrix-esque look that Sisters armour has going on, one could go for a sort of "extreme BDSM" look crossed with the religious trappings of the Sisterhood and a healthy dose of metal album covers. So lots of disturbing piercings, tattoos, body modifications and general ways of self-punishment- the desired effect should be "Jesus Christ that's terrifying, my guardsmen are probably going to fail ALL their morale checks" rather than "Dude, that's pretty hot". Sensory deprivation masks, needles everywhere, limbs replaced with pointlessly cruel weapons, any exposed flesh being mutilated, you get the idea. You could take a more...extreme variation on the usual Chaos trophies on vehicles too, with the trophies still being very much alive, be they crucified on the sides of tanks as living, screaming armour or strapped onto those horrible vault-horse bondage things on the top of a Land Raider as something of a makeshift Dirge Caster (because a speaker wasn't GRIMDARK enough). Of course there's loads of ways one could go about doing Slaaneshi Sisters, because Slaanesh is possibly the most diverse of all the Chaos Gods with his worship methods, but that would certainly turn the most heads.

Tzeentch: Tzeentch is a tricky one because the Sisters don't do Psykers. However, Tzeentch is the god of fate and always gets his (wo)man, so there's more than one approach. Betrayal is of course a big one- the Order is led astray by Chaos forces they believe to be loyal (Alpha Legion operatives perhaps?) and end up being excommunicated for assisting traitors. Perhaps the Sisterhood falls prey to the same thing as the Thousand Sons- a desire for knowledge. They seek to gain the means to protect themselves against the forces of Chaos and begin to delve into forbidden arts (such as the dreaded quickshade technique!) which of course leads to their downfall. Or maybe a Saint they all look up to actually turns out to have been far less of a savoury character than they first thought? Tzeentch is always a tricky one to do, for Sisters especially, but I think there's potential.

For modelling, go for an air of mystery and secrecy. Faces hidden behind veils/masks. Long robes concealing their true forms. Arcane looking weapons and equipment. Or alternatively just apply the awesome new Thousand Sons aesthetic to Sisters armour and voila. As with any Tzeentch project it will be difficult, but it will look superb when it's done right.

Anyway, that's my thoughts. I'm sure I've committed some horrendous fluff violation, but before you go for my neck, Sisters players, just remember the absolute axiom of continuity within 40K: "Everything is canon, not everything is true".

A few years ago, a friend of mine that plays sisters and I faced off at a rogue trader tournament. We battled until only his canoness and my Khorne lord was left. On the last turn, we agreed that the looser would be captured instead of killed (for personal fluff). I managed to win and Canoness Amelia  concubine of Khorne was born!  I used the old metal canoness model and gave her a chainaxe in place of the icon she held. After reading this thread, I think that Ill update her in plastic and reintroduce her into my games!

There's three ways of doing them:

The first two aren't actual sisters of chaos though, they're heretics wearing the armor of dead actual sisters of battle.

Woohoo, level up!

More seriously, good job on those reasonings.

She can have tea parties with Valkyria the Bloody and they can talk about chainshoes and warpaints.

About the "they are on their period and are angrier/more fierce" trope, I figured that upon maturation, they would have their ovaries removed, because they are a order dedicated to the church of the emperor and all, and in extreme cases believe themselves to be the Emperor's wives.

And it would keep them "safe"* from potential occupational hazards like being captured by Chaos groups and used as fodder for a daemonculaba set up, or otherwise as allowing "potential traitors to be born from their bodies"

Same with Genestealers, they probably wouldn't implant sterile specimens and likely have some dumb way of telling.

Or even though it's so far into the future but a lot has been forgotten, there would be some kind of birth control that would negate periods. But it's a game marketed towards kids so that :cuss isn't going to make it in like the creepy/sexy daemonettes.

I brainstormed a chaos version of Grey Knights (but not in the sense of they were daemon hunters, just sorcerers who specializes in wrangling daemons, for Warpsmiths and such, no purity/super impurity just...psychic daemon rustlers in the wild west of Eyespace)

But for how a sisters like organization could start up but for chaos, they wouldn't likely wear power armor, but it would be carapace (I imagine all power armor that is salvageable is reduced to its smallest parts and used in building up automata, daemon engines or traitor power armor systems, and carapace is rare enough to show "elite mortal" compared to cultists or bloodpact.

They would be sort of underclass for Dark Apostles, maybe tied to the various orders and cabals strong girls taken and raised in the various cults, exhalting the gods until they take their sacred blessed carapace and go to bring the light of the true gods to those who worship the false god.

*They would just be killed instead of brutally tortured and corrupted, or converted.

Same with Genestealers, they probably wouldn't implant sterile specimens and likely have some dumb way of telling.

Uh, yeah, about that.

Legends of the Dark Millenium: Genestealer Cults spoilers:

If the Ophele mentioned in this post's quote is the Sister of Battle who was brainwashed by the cult in order to let them slip into the convent at night and slit everyone's throat, she's kinda... yeah.

Heh heh. And thanks! I reckon there's actually a fair bit of potential for traitor Sororitas orders- I'm planning on making some myself at some point.

And cake. Lots of cake! Even if it is made with ground up skulls for flour and clotted blood for jam, it's delicious.

I did a similar story as drevak, but using age of sigmar sigmarine shooting models. I just added daemonette heads and some backpacks, then didn't glue on the crossbow part of the gun. They were lead by a WHFB medusa with wings as a counts as daemon princess.

Instead of saying they were corrupted sisters though, I simply said they were females bound with daemons and placed in power armor.

I actually was just thinking about making a sisters of silence / culexus assassin army in black and white as a covert servants of Malal. I figured pariahs would work in well with his lore. But, I'm waiting till 8th comes out to see how viable it will be.

I was actually going to make a thread to get people's thoughts on it, but didn't know what forum it would go with.
