I'd always pictured Keshigs in Tartaros, but the modified Justaerin (is that right?) look superb

Looks like regular old Cataphractii to me. Justaerian have more spikes, and I belive cabling on the chest. Funnily enough, the Keshig of Jaghatai is described as wearing Cataphractii armour when Ilya Ravallion first go to the Khans chambers...

@b1soul

Glad to appease another Scarophile ;)

@bb

Yeah they're Cataphractii - and I did it distinctly because that's what they were mentioned as in the book. Tartaros makes more sense, but Cataphractii armor in Scars colors are just sooooo cool :D

Butbut, straight sword?

Looking awesome no matter :D

These guys contain some...reticent Terran legionaries how shall we say? ;)

Anyone have success with weathering powders? I'm tempted to get into them but I'm afraid they'll a.) lose their luster if I "affix" it or b.) dust off when I place the models in their cases

I'm also debating what I should do for bases. The white begs for a sandy, dusty base, but I also like SWM's swamp bases with water effects.

Absolutely awesome!! I love the blue eyes on em, and the weathering is really well done. Not too much, not too little. You've hit an awesome happy medium with it. I look forward to more!

The lines between the red and white are so clean on everything as well. What do you do to have it be so?

Full disclosure: I am a lazy painter :P but that's not always a bad thing I think. But it forces me to try other methods. I see many beautiful paint jobs and ask people about them, but they take wayyyyy too many steps for me as I want to have a painted force to play on the table with. Honestly the secret is learning to master an airbrush, it helps so much with the blending.

I tried cleaning up the eyes^^

I didn't realize how sloppy they were till I saw the pictures on a large screen :P Like I said, I'm lazy and/or broke, so the eye lenses came out of such a mindset. I mixed White Scar with some Sons of Horus green to get a light bluish-green that I liked. I was actually hoping for a jade green, but I liked the new color so I decided to stick with it!

I copied the same technique for my sicaran viewports but used a wash of coelia greenshade as there were way too many recess.

As for the red/white...I actually hate it. I screwed up the masking and allowed red paint to flow underneath so I had to go bad with a white scar/Typhon ash mix to correct it - close up you can see brush lines :(

As for the weathering, it's my attempt at trying to make a skavenblight dinge. I mixed black and grey with a hint of brown to get a mud/dirt effect

Eeeeh, looks good, real good.

I'll even give you a pass on the Terran reprobates :p

Feelsgoodman :D

Man these are awesome. Pretty much love everything you do.

So i am watching spartacus, and have decided to do s true side project of my first love...World Eaters. How do you do your white? (if you haven't already explained)

Thanks man!

I'm thinking about doing a tutorial next anyway so I'll keep you abreast. I think I would recommend using a grey base rather than a brown base like I did for my white Scars - I feel it's more fitting for WEs but I'll definitely post my method for you!

I've gotten a few requests on how I do my white so I just wanted to put it up for anyone looking for a starting spot :) you will need an airbrush though! (It's half the battle in all honesty)

So I start off painting these WS Keshig guys with Zandri Dust air over a Vallejo black primer:

http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac316/treacyjohn2/0A70F601-E33A-46DC-BA01-62541D646F6E_zpsl7n4eqlc.jpg

Then, I add some white to the leftover Zandri dust in the bowl, trying to get a lighter khaki color. The first Zandri coat you can be wayyyy more liberal in application, but you want this second coat to be a bit more precise as you need to think about shading and shadows. It's about a 50/50 White Scar air to Zandri dust thinned down (will require a visual judgement call):

http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac316/treacyjohn2/3E3485ED-A3B0-4495-B1E0-73BB57CFFED6_zpscwgt50zg.jpg

You can see the difference in the first and second model from the right contrasting against the ZD layer:

Next I do a 75/25 mix from the leftovers in the bowl WS/ZD. It's not this pure white as it just needs to be mixed, I just wanted to show the proportions:

http://i911.photobucket.com/albums/ac316/treacyjohn2/AF3A3D76-394F-48DD-83AB-354797FE3C83_zpsbdk79tel.jpg

You can see the difference between the three in the foreground and the lighter contrast to the previous coat (two in the background):

Finally, I hit the topmost areas from nearly a 90 degree angle from the model with pure WS:

And here's just a good close up to illustrate the shading effects so it doesn't look caked up or ham handed :P

I hope that helps some of you! There are different ways to tweak it, but it would work well with DG and WS, but I'd recommend a grey instead of khaki for a WE undercoat :D

Here's some more work on my outriders, I'm contemplating changing the color on their topknots because it blends into the tin gold of the metal:
