What do you think about these new SM breed?

Would you include sone in your unforgiven armies?

I dont like that to sell models to DA players the will bend the fluff to make DA accept on the Rock Frankenstein Marines made by Papa Smurf and the Old Mechanic...

Give us cataphractii, tartaros, contemptors, stormravens and AA tanks and i am happy the same...

I was just about to make a thread on the same vein. I guess it all depends on how they handle the fluff about it all.

Honestly I see them being ostracised in much the same way as techmarines are.

Azrael would be a fool to turn them down but the Dark Angels as a whole are quite introverted, and these new marines while they may have the lions Geneseed, will be held in doubt if their loyalty is to the Dark Angels or Roboute. They will be utilised but not trusted.

As a knee jerk reaction, I'm saying no, I won't be including these guys. We've made it fine these years without Centurions, AA tanks, certain fliers, etc. I don't really see the 2.0s fitting in either.

On the other hand, I'm very excited at the possibility of me not having to hack apart and add shims to all my marines to tall scale them. The amount of time, effort and blood this would save me is incredible! Plus the idea of tall scaling already tall scaled marines seems a little absurd

If i was Azrael i would make a lot of big jump packs and make all the Assault squads out of them to put them in the front of any DA Assault so They will get all the incoming fire and help the REAL DA to survive more...

Then i would call on the DW and clean all that is Left...

And ofc i would make a wing just for the FrankenMarines and put then all there with a chaplain that cobtrols then so They do what the chapter needs

Unless it's done very well, I doubt I will include any 2.0 in my DA. Maybe if I start up another Chapter.

For me, I think the DA would see it like - "You've shouldered the burden for the last 10,000 years but you're not really good enough for us any more. Thanks though!"

It's probably pretty obvious that I'm not in favour of Marines 2.0 but that kinda feeds into my logic - The community's real world reaction is probably very indicative of how an in-universe reaction would be.

I certainly wouldn't begrude someone using them, they're just not for me. Except as a base for true-scale.

GW could go and do a brilliant job of justifying them in the fluff and completey change my mind though, you never know.

I just can't see a new wing being formed for them. Especially as the memory of the other wings seems to have been lost over time. In the azrael novel a great table is described with 6 great symbols carved into it, their meanings were lost to time. So to me that suggests that the other wings were long since forgotten. (This is from a fluff perspective mind people are free to do what they want with their models)

As well as that in my mind anyway if you have a body of super marines whose loyalty you mistrust you would not place them together but scatter them across the companies, to ensure each company 'benefits' from their skills, not breaking them apart so they can't collude at all, nope no sir.

By just treating them as specialist squads scattered amongst the chapters you place them with a command structure already in place, and have the excuse you are integrating them into the chapter by spreading them out. In my mind anyway

Chaplain Lucifer has it right, there are no decisions to be made until we actually know the entirety of what's what surrounding these guys. For all we know, the Dark Angels may have been in on the decision. We don't know what is actually going on.

It also amuses me to see people call them FrankenMarines and the like since the standard Space Marines are actually Frankenstein's monsters to begin with. Let's not forget that there's a reason that Marines are viewed with a mix of reverence and terror in the Imperial populace and inspire things called "transhuman dread".

If i was Azrael i would

Ask to Big Smurf the projects to make the new marines on the Rock

If not possible i would continue to recruit the marines in the old way and put tje new marines in the front of every Assault as expendable bodies

They are not born on the Rock, we cannot trust them so no RW or DW for them btw They are Too big for the revered bikes and armour of our special companies ;)

You are making a lot of assumptions from one 45 second or so video.

Also, more Unforgiven are "not born on the Rock" than are, and yet they are all trusted after the appropriate tests.

We really have to know what the full fluff on these guys are before coming to true conclusions. You all may be willing to act like the Lion smashing Nemiel's head off in a fit of pique, but I prefer to try and embody the thoughtful strategist version of the Lion and see what's what on the battlefield before making decisions for the long game.

Do you really trust the big smurf and his big marines?

Dont forget that RG was dead and took back from Death by fool xenos sorcery...

He self appointed leader of the Imperium after going alone in the golden throne chamber and going out with the emperir sword in hand...

Are you sure he talked with the emperor or maybe he just did "ok the imperium needs a leader and i am bigger and stronger i will tell to everybody that dad appointed me the role"...

Dont forget he used Cypher to go to Terra and when Cypher told him "ok i helped you now let me get in the golden throne room" he replied "No i am a smurf friend with xenos so i van broke the deal (and i know you have the Lion sword so if you wake up the lion i cannot appoint myself as new emperor)"...

I cannot trust this new big smurf... There is Too many dark things around him that could turn to be very Dangerous...

And for this reason i cannot trust the marines he sends to us...

Guilliman is the first Primarch to return but the Lion could recover from his sleep and Russ could return. Maybe the other first founding legions and their successors will get Marines 2.0 based on their own founder's geneseed as primarch miniatures are released. Not sure where this would leave those chapters with totally dead Primarchs though!

As with all things 8th, I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.  If we do have access to them, the First Legion breeds strategic excellence.  I'm sure we can come up with uses for them that are more productive than as expendable cannon fodder, while still keeping them at arm's length until they are properly indoctrinated and integrated into the Legion.

Hmm...I wonder if we can start openly proclaiming ourselves as the First Legion.  Cadia has fallen, a Primarch walks among us, the return of the Lion is imminent.  It's a whole new ballgame, brothers.

The Lion return is not imminent...

When Cypher offered his help to Big Smurf he did not let Cypher to go to the golden throne cause heis just a pawn ofthe pointy ears now... :P

So, three lines of thought:

1) Shifting toward "True-scale" Marines in the larger form, we may see a slow step back from "Heroic" to "Accurate" scale.  With the death of Cadia, it is an opportunity to remake Imperial Guard as well into something not as incredibly distorted.  The bigger marine with a more realistic Bolter design seems to be a step.

2) Bigger, Better Marine sounds like more Fabius Bile Heresy.  If this is not an opportunity to have another Heresy where a bunch of these "Uber-marines" turn to Chaos, I don't know GW all that well.  It will happen.

3) No.  I don't think they will be a supplemental force, so much as "next generation" force, where they are slowly brought in and replace through attrition the older Marines, both fluff-wise and model-wise.

My Opinions.

A friend of mine was joking, that we would be playing Warhammer with figurines like in those huge chess figurines when we are old.wink.png

Would I play with Marines 2.0? Depends how they look in robes I would say. devil.gif

Lets see if GW can positive surprise.

The Lion is no fan of Guilliman and has a hard time trusting any of the other Primarchs after the Horus Heresy happens. I would like to see The Lion awaken and discovering what Guilliman is doing, gather the Unforgiven chapters and maybe even the loyalist Fallen together to reform the Dark Angels Legion and lead the civil war against the heretic Guilliman and his "Super Marines". Freeing the Imperium from this new "False Emperor" and bringing it under the rule of the Emperor's true heir.

One can dream...

Oh and hi everyone.

If they turn out to be a unit that carries the Lions' geneseed then maybe, A bit early to tell how they will fit in. Awesome rules won't play a part in my decision, they need to fit in via the fluff properly or nope...

If they are a 'replacement' for our current units then no way (I mean that in the context given in the video not as pure mini replacements).

There is no way in hell I am going to 'truescale' my dudes, to me the SM is the baseline for the scale and are already true, the human and other minis are too big.

Early days, no ragequitting either way ;)
