Paradox 01
I've been out of the loop for a while - call me a "casual hobbyist" - so I apologize if this question seems silly or treads on old ground. The Death Guard's special rule "Intractable" states, "When making Sweeping Advance rolls, models with this special rule reduce their score by -1." Does this mean DG units are more likely to be wiped out by an opponent winning a close combat? Assuming both units' I values are equal, DG units are more likely to be killed by the Sweeping Advance, yes? Turn the tables. A DG unit wins a round of close combat and forces an opponent unit to Fall Back so they roll off for Sweeping Advance. Again, assuming equal I values, does this mean DG units are more likely to let the other chaps slink away and live? Marshal Loss
I've always interpreted it as a -1 for both pursuing and fleeing. The rulebook says that the 'victors' make a Sweeping Advance, but when a Sweeping Advance is performed, both units roll - so I took it as the rule says 'making Sweeping Advance rolls,' that it is for both. Also, it wouldn't make much sense to me that they were stubborn when it came to pursuing but not to running away. Paradox 01
I agree. I could see a rule that allows DG units to Consolidate whether they win or lose, the only difference being what direction they consolidate towards. 1000 Sons
I've always played it -1 when they are doing the sweeping advance. When you lose a combat, you are not advancing. LtDan
As 1000 sons say. A falling back move is not a sweeping advance. It's only applies to them pursuing Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333444-death-guard-intractable-rule/#findComment-4731115 Share on other sites
Slippy
This is actually a very good question. I always interpreted it as both ways, it being one of the DG weaknesses. Now I'm not so sure anymore. You could argue it both ways it seems... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333444-death-guard-intractable-rule/#findComment-4736107 Share on other sites
disease
Always played it as when you win combat and are trying to catch the enemy and sweep them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333444-death-guard-intractable-rule/#findComment-4736648 Share on other sites
Brother Captain Spud
I would also interpret it as impacting both ways. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333444-death-guard-intractable-rule/#findComment-4737177 Share on other sites
