Flat brush wet blending (5min per marine)

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Astartes, as I've been asked about this a few times, I figured out making a video demonstration/explanation would be more useful to everyone. I don't have much experience in making tutorials, so if I left out anything, feel free to ask.

As someone who doesn't own an airbrush yet, and who doesn't want to spend ages painting a few models, I figured out how to do wet blending quick enough to paint the gradients on a marine's armour in just 5min. Doesn't need setup like an airbrush, just a flat brush and geedub colours. Obviously not Golden Demon standard, but quick enough to paint entire companies without dying of old age.

Also, the same works for more than 2 colours. My multi melta barrels' heat stains for example are a blend of (1/3 each) leadbelcher, genestealer purple and maccrage blue.

This is brilliant! I was skeptical at first but I'm really impressed by the simplicity and the results. I do have my concerns about contaminating the paint with the other color, but when blending similar colors (such as Space Wolf armor) that won't be an issue.

Even with different ones, not an issue, rarely happens to me. Just leave some space on the brush between both colors, and there won't be any contamination. The lid's tab makes that quite controllable, as you clearly see the amount and position of the color while applying it to the brush. Directly from the pot would be harder I guess.

Of that particular dude, I don't have a detailed picture, as it's just a random sarge. He's on some group shots (second pic, in front of the left razorback), but that's it. I'll add a photo when I'm back home (in 3 weeks).

The land speeder has both post-gradient and finished pics here.
