Executioners armour

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

I'm thinking about starting a new army project for the new edition of 40k, and my choice fell on the Executioners Chapter. I read that they main color is metallic grey-blue. Could you recommend me a matching paint for them? I didn't have much experience with paints besides Citadel (no hobby stores other than GW-related in the area). And to make it even harder to choose - I don't have an airbrush smile.png

If you don't want to go the route of using multiple layers of shades/glazes then I would say Grey Knights Steel from Forge World is almost perfect.  It's a metallic blue but it's a tiny bit paler/lighter than you'd expect.  Its not cheap though, as it's from FW.  If I can find my pot I'll post a pic.

A mix of a brighter silver and Gunmetal Blue (darker blue-grey) or Sparkling Blue (pure metallic blue) by Reaper would probably give you a good color for them, if per smart_arse, you don't want to do multiple layers of blue shades and glazes.

Have to second this. Grey Knights Steel was made for the Executioners. It's been hard to resist painting some up. :P

Thanks Guys, you are amazing!

I have no experience with airbrush paints - how different are they to normal ones? I'm asking this because to me the Grey Knights Steel dosen't look different from the other paints. That VMC Gunmetal looks also promising!

deathspectersgt7 - this looks also good, but it is a bit lo light for my tastes. How many layers of wash did you use on it?

Airbrush paints are typically just thinner, to provide less clogging when being shot through an airbrush. I haven't experienced any pigment separations with GKS either.

So using it with a regular brush isn't a problem? (Sorry fo the noob question, I really didn't have any experience with airbrushing.)

None whatsoever, so long as they're water soluble acrylics like 99% of all 'wargaming' paints. Loads of people buy them specifically to use with hairy brush because it saves time thinning down ordinary paints.
