Very nice techniques and superb results.

The Green is very good for evoking the Dark Angels, yet harkening to the 1st Legion days.

I just have to question: your chipped paint technique is awesome, but does it tell the viewer that these are revered artifacts of the 1st Legion?  Don't get me wrong, I like the technique, but Astartes, and the Techmarines, would take better care of their charges. Drop pods would show exceptional wear from reentry and they are usually not recovered.  Even the Speeder would have nicks, etc, from moving at speed, although the majority would be on leading edges and the front.  But the Razorbacks would be pristine.  Muddy, a couple of damage spots from enemy fire or bursting though foliage, but not so chipped away that they look almost Orkish.

thanks for the critique! They've been in heavy fighting and campaigning for a while. Keeping our armor perfect is for ultras msn-wink.gif! In all seriousness though in order to speed up my process I tried a few thing things like sponging damage and its funny you point out the razor backs because im not 100% happy with them but how else do you learn except by failing ;)!

I had to triple-check if they were green or black... it's perfect. Love the detailing, and weathering alongside the crispness. Those tattoos, though, are killer.

thats what I was going for and also why I opted out of hard green highlights. Thanks brothers!

A very nice force, those mark 8s really make for an awesome command unit.

the heads and bodies from the deathwatch are the best! Just requires some cutting! MKVIII is my fav!

Now the technique has given you highlights without painting grey lines all over your vehicle, so it is a whole lot more realistic than normal tabletop styles.  It is just not completely satisfying, as you say.

Idk pretty happy with them! Thanks tho!

Line highlighting gets overrated- not everything needs to look like it's out of a comic book. Looking at your RB, I think I could guess exactly what still irks you as per your higher quote, but it's probably to do with the timbre of the paint, and words fail me beyond that. They look amazing, but painting vehicles always leaves me with a hint of second-guessing. My only thought would be to add some weathering/wear to the tracks for consistency, but you're the one with the medal, not me ;)

ty brother! I went back and touched up the backs and very happy with them. The treads are dirty just hard to spot in my poor photos. The Gulthor brown is rather light over the silver! That brown is by far the best with washes. Has this wonderful deep purplish look to it.

Don't get me wrong.  I am in awe of your skills.

I really like it.

As for what to add next, put in what you would really like to paint.  The new 8th is going to allow for unbound lists, and supposedly everything is going to serve a purpose in the armies.  Nothing buffed and nothing nerfed, so anything you want should work nicely.

8th ed is dropping in like 20 minutes, nobody knows what's going to be good, so make whatever looks cool. I like dreadnoughts, vindicates, and terminators myself, but tastes vary, so who knows!

Really hoping termies are good again! Reflecting on my years of 40K they really have never been "amazing". Those MKX tho ;)

I vote a Dreadnought. With your *Napoleon voice* mad skills it'll be a perfect complement. Or a vet/command squad, but I'm holding off on mine until full 8e rules come out.

hahah i actually have a apothecary in the works to just swap into my vet unit to make them a command squad. I'll hold off till 8th as well especially if that new dread comes out.

A most excellent interpretation of the 1st! These really are exceptional models. What ever you chose to add to them, if modelled and painted to this standard, will be a joy to behold!

Good work brother, good work!

Exceptional work, brother! Congratulations on taking home the gold.

I really like the battle damage. The calligraphy is ace! You color palette is perfectly subdued.

Thanks for sharing.
