Question About the Space Wolf Rites of War

Recommended Posts

Pre-warning - This is potentially a really stupid question; I apologise in advance if it is, and although I hope you will see my logic in asking, if you don't please don't be rude. I genuinely just don't know as I have never had it come up in my lists before.

Both Space Wolf Rites of War have the limitation that no Artillery type units can be taken. Can I, if I so desired, take a Legion Artillery Tank Squadron (i.e. Medusas, Whirlwinds and Basilisks)?

I can see it now 'facepalm! Of course you can't Artillery is in the name of the Squadron'...

However, I always thought these restrictions referred specifically to unit types, like how in the Rapier profile it says 'Type: Artillery'. The Artillery tank Squadron however has the Type 'Vehicle (Tank)' and so is technically not an Artillery piece. It seems pretty clear to me that it is fine to take the Squadron, but I thought I better check just in case as I am just not sure of the intent behind that restriction. From a fluff perspective I can't imagine it restricting the Tank Squadron as it is all about mobility. Rapiers are very static and doesn't play to the strengths of the Wolves, on a Vehicle they are much more mobile and combine well with their hit and run style.

It is not even like I am trying to 'cheese' a list or whatever. I am trying to build a fluff-oriented Space Wolf force that is different to the style of my Word Bearers. Settled on the 7th Great Company for the awesome Cult of Morkai and Black Cull units and part of their whole theme is Siege and Artillery units (which I never normally use), so I wanted to look into it.

Thanks!

So lets back up, don't apologize for asking question. That's why we are here to help you with your questions.

Moving on you may bring Legion Artillery Squadrons as they are of the type "Tank" and not Artillery. In this game artillery is a gun platform with infantry that fire the gun rather than firing their individual issued weapons. You're not "cheesing" by bringing a squadron of tanks to support your infantry as they move forward. Hope this helped.

Artillery is a unit type, so I wouldn't mind you taking Artillery Tanks

Thanks for that! :)

Thank you so much for that reply. It is really decent of you to say that.

That has helped fantastically, thank you. Glad it was actually what I was thinking though. And by 'cheesing' I meant how some people selectively interpret rules in order to get round restrictions / get good stuff, which definitely wasn't my intention.

Thank you again for that reply though, it was really appreciated :D
