Hi all, I figured this would be a useful thread to start. With many of us getting multiple sets of the new Death Guard we will be needing lots of conversion ideas. Post them all here. Below please find my bemused ramblings on what to do with all that glorious green goo.

I myself have decided to go without food next month and buy three starter kits, trading all the marines for Death Guard, giving me 6 sets.

Thats 120 pox walkers (to supplement my 150 plague zombies, emperor help the living)

42 plague marines

6 bloat drones

6 lords

6 banner bearers

6 sorcerers

Pox-Walkers should be fine, theres 10 sculpts and different coloured clothes etc along with a few weapon and head swaps should make the whole horde look fine.

these guys mixed in with the new sculpts they will be releasing (i double checked the original death guard video and there are definitely different sculpts!!) should be ok and according to GW customer service they can take a certain amount of heal and army swapping. Still i think there will need to be some work done to make them all look nice and different from each other. The blight kings box should provide some good little extra bits to play with.

other than giving it a "my other drones a blight drone" bumper sticker I'm not too sure the best way to deal with this guy. if they have the same squadron size of 3 then i'll have two squadrons so they will need to be differentiated. I'm thinking get a load of extra pipes and stuff for underneath to give me different heights and angles (lego technic works very well for that stuff) I also just bought some plague drones to counts as blight drones (yay, great purchase thanks to this censored.gif ) so maybe some fly heads for a couple of them would be good. even subtle things like filling in the cracks with green stuff and adding different ones will help to differentiate them.

oh and does anyone else think he would look better without his tail fan? speaking of the fans I might even get rid of the rings of spikes going around the fans, they feel very generic chaos and not very Nurgle to me, what do you guys think?

Blightbringer1.jpg

now for the really fun stuff. I'm very pleased with all three characters (sorcerers weird baby face not withstanding) 6 of each though will definitely stick out like a sore thumb without some help.

starting with sergeant tinnitus here. I love his big belly back pack but more than one and its obvious. I could have one without the bell and one replaced with a hanging carcass (there is rather a nice hanged torso in the zombie kit) but after that i'm afraid the big bell has to go. I did think that if i didn't have the bell at all then 6 of them on some sort of platforms would make cool objective markers though. How are you guys gonna deal with the bell?

as for the rest of the model he can be just another plague marine (albeit a big ol' fat plague marine wearing a bib) I'm guessing to look at him that his head is a single piece with the torso but a drill could get rid of that and he would look very cool with some alternative helmets or a bare head, maybe even a plague bearer head)

I'm really hoping that it will be possible to carefully remove his little nurgling, I love adding nurglings as extra bits of detail to my characters and he would be great.

LordofContagion1.jpg

Whose your big leprous daddy?

having 6 sets of disgustingly warped and mutilated cataphracts armour is practically begging for a terminator squad. not so easy though when they are all identical.

I'm guessing headships shouldn't be a huge problem and of course his back piece can be removed readily enough. his sagging belly could probably be hacked off and resculpted too.

his arms will be tough though, they don't really protude above the elbow and so replacing them it will be very easy to make them short and stubby or overly long.

I'm also pissed off that he is standing up on some sort of fat baby (as cool as that is) because straightening his leg will be a bitch of a job but having them all with their foot up on something is weird.

Of course if we are swapping his arms that lovely axe has to go somewhere. I think it would look very cool held one handed with the haft resting on the ground, it would probably come up to a normal marines head height.

lastly his cloak will be annoying, i never did get any good at cloaks and i'd like to be able to resculp them to all be flowing and falling differently. does anyone have a good tutorial or any hints fro that?

Plaguecaster1.jpg

My army is currently led by Necrosius, nurgles ickiest scion of the warp, and contained 12 rogue Nurgle psykers, multiple ML3 daemon princes and a few marine sorceress thrown in for good measure. I like me my psykers and I really like this guy.

the face is a problem, its not as bad as i first thought but still... nah.

I've come up with a couple of good solutions though i think. One is to extend his hood to completely cover his face and swap his silly wood elf stick thing with a scythe. I'd also replace his cloud of noxious gas and that whole arm with a skeletal arm making him very grim reaperesque. I'm also hoping that with some careful clipper and file work the whole lot of his tassley hat thing could be removed, allowing for a proper headship and changing the impression of the character quite a lot.

Oh, and also with a good long pin through it I was thinking of taking the noxious cloud thing and having it come straight out of his mouth, should be quite easy and cool conversion that has the benefit of hiding his face a lot

while i think the lord is probably the coolest model as is this is the one I am most excited to see conversions for.

Anyway, that vastly long comment should just about do it. please do share any ideas you guys have, i find that sharing conversion ideas breeds more and better conversions.

Only 3 weeks 4 days to go.

Take Babyface Plaguecaster.

Take knife and drill.

Carefully drill hole where Babyface's baby face is, leaving the cowl untouched. Clean up with knife.

Take beaky head from Exalted Sorcerers kit.

(Optional, use green stuff to cover runes)

Cut so it fits inside the hole in the cowl.

Instant plague doctor.

oh i like that idea!!! those kind of beaky air purifier things, what a cool concept. I was actually toying around with converting a Death Guard apothecary (probably still play him as a sorcerer) and that would suit it very well, thanks

I'll be probably planning on using the bilght king bits to heavily convert some stuff especially that sorcerer hate the head so will use the same conversion I used in a dark vengeance chosen carve apart the head and use the cowled head from the blight king set that is awfully reminiscent of the Old school Harbinger

Worked well for this guy so should be just as easy especially since the sorcerer

I've got a box blight kings, a bunch of MKIII and IV and a set of FW DG upgrades. I'm wondering if the drone will be followed by a kit with more options like the hellbrute. Part of me wants to snag two sets, trade out one marine side and concert the rest to all be pox walkers just for a laugh....

Edit: also got an aos maggoth lord to convert into a GUO so, three riders to make into big lord/ champions that could probably do with some primaris legs...

Well, I'll probably Chaos-ify the Primaris Marines using leftover sprues, or maybe do some true-scaled Black Legion marines using them...  Most of the Death Guard are really nice, though, so I doubt I'd change anything tbh. This thread isn't really going to be that inspiring until the set is actually released though.

As soon as I get these Im putting them under the knife. Might even do one with a Nurgling using his intestines as a skipping rope.

Mmmm Nurglings

The dude with the 'Tato masher grenade deffo needs a head swap. Cant stand the 'Mk7 head glued in backwards with eyes sculpted on' look. Terminator Lords loosing the stupid axe head and Babyface is loosing his baby rattle. Not a big fan of the Templar esque apron on the bell dude, not sure what Im gonna do there, might try sculpting over it to turn it into chainmail.

Depending on how their pieces fit, you could wait for the practically confirmed standalone Plague Marine kit and see if the pieces in there are more to your liking, then kitbash as you so desire. Alternatively, I'm pretty sure the Blightking torsos have the same proportions and will fit perfectly with little to no greenstuff required. If the apron is part of a piece that is "vital" for the assembly, you could hack away and place a (future multi-part kit) Plague Marine front plate or Blightking belly/plate on him.

Totally forgot about the Blightkings kit. Now I need to remember where I left my leftovers.

Well I hate Nurgle so it pretty much puts me out of wanting it (I can wait for some priMarines to come out in a multipart kit)

If I did get it, I would eBay the Nurgle stuff. Some people will have a burning in their loins for that stuff...so I'd ask high.
