helterskelter
From imperial truth on FB People are starting to hear the news coming out so I wanted to share it. Very sadly Alan Bligh passed away yesterday. There is a book of condolences in the studio area. Alan has been such a huge part of the Horus Heresy but more importantly listening to his colleagues and those who met Alan at any of the events he was respected and liked, loved as a man. Thank you Alan for everything you have done for this hobby and this community. Rest in peace Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333959-rip-alan-bligh/ Share on other sites

SillyDreadnought
The Badab War books are what got me back into the hobby, when they came out. And the Horus Heresy stoked that fire even more, even managed to get him to sign my HH1: Betrayal. And I had a brief and friendly chat with the man at the first Horus Heresy weekender I went to ( which was the 3rd one I believe? ), talked to him about the Iron Hands and the Shattered Legions, the Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors, all sorts. He was very approachable, funny, full of dry wit and a twinkle in his eye that suggested he always knew more than he was letting on. I can't think of a way to close this post actually. To say he'll be missed is an understatement. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333959-rip-alan-bligh/#findComment-4756415 Share on other sites
Charlo
I was slightly late to the seminar so just caught the words "news about alan" so I thouggt he just wasn't here because he had gotten more ill. Shocked to see the final reason. Never got to meet him, but we're all, the thousands of posts are here and all of us members are here tapping away on phones and computers because of the amazing and irreplaceable Alan Bligh. RIP. Unknown Legionnaire
Same here, Badab War brought me back from a 12 year wargaming hiatus back then. Then the Heresy came along and things got even better. Let's all get out drinking tonight, not mourning, but celebrating in his name. See you on the other side Mr. Bligh. Bat33.1
Sad News indeed :( I only chatted to him a couple of times at Games Days past, he seemed a great bloke and a fine writer. Phatsquirre1
Rest in Peace Alan Bligh, the genius behind the entirety of the 30k setting. I never had the fortune to meet him, but was inspired again and again by his works, especially those concerning the Iron Warriors. He will be missed. Kais Klip
What a shame. I was looking forward to more of his crazy shenanigans covered in thick black leather and set in the grimdark future. Says something about the man, if when he passes I genuinely regret the many things he hadn't shared with us yet. Does anyone know what exactly to credit him with in regards to the Horus Heresy books and IP? All I know of so far was his tendency to keep an eye on us, and his shenanigans in regards to play testing the many legions with Alpha Legion marines. I do hope he didn't leave random alpha legionnaires hiding around the workplace. I only knew him by his work, and his work really was something magical that spiced up my life during both highs and lows, so I would appreciate knowing what exactly to credit him with. rendingon1+
That's terrible and unexpected news. I just hope he will be rewarded in the afterlife for all the good things he did. So that is how loosing a Primarch feels like. RIP Alan. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333959-rip-alan-bligh/#findComment-4757039 Share on other sites
noigrim
A sad day for all the hobby. The major testament to his work is that the latest book went down in quality since he couldn't watch over it and it will go on like this now. KBA
I wish cancer was a tangible physical being to which I could take the fat end of a baseball bat to... Marshal Rohr
I keep reading and rereading John and Aaron's obituaries and get choked up each time. I wish desperately this hadn't happened. He was clearly the kind of friend we all should try and be. Gorgoff
Some beautiful words from ADB: https://aarondembskibowden.wordpress.com/author/aarondembskibowden/ The God-Emperor of 40k will be sorely missed. It always gets me when a man talks about the loss of a good friends but that cought me unprepared. The force of a genius writer like ADB in complete pain about his loss brought tears to my eyes. And I didn't ever meet Alan. His work on the other hand... well, it had a massive impact on my hobby and about my live having met new people through it. Alan sure was a man with a strong vision and I am going to remember that every time I play in that vision. Rest in piece. bluntblade
Alan Bligh gave us choom? I never knew. And that's not being flippant - one of the things which has tickled me most since getting into this was the volkite's signature squeal, and ultimately I have him to thank for that. He invented Volkites, apparently, yes. The noise 'choom' is my own contribution, though (just to be clear). bluntblade
I wondered who was the originator of the noise. I just wanted to single out a bit of the fluff that gave me particular enjoyment, that he was partly responsible for. Spaced Hulk
Rest in peace Alan. The hobby, and indeed the world, have become a poorer place. Like most of us here, I knew you only though your work, but your creativity and ability to inspire and revitalize all our imaginations will never be forgotten. All my condolences go to your family and friends. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/333959-rip-alan-bligh/#findComment-4758451 Share on other sites
