bluntblade
Is it a thing? Because I wrote something based on the assumption that it isn't, and then realised I should check. The Cult of Mars has no afterlife in its creed. Martyrdom, by its dogma, has meaning only if it ensures the survival of the faith and knowledge. The Omnissiah’s victory must be achieved in this life. So there could be no doomed uprising against insurmountable odds. Righteous failure was failure nonetheless. Shinespider
I'm not aware of any. The way that Magi go to such extreme lengths to stretch out their lifespans certainly suggests that they don't think there's anything waiting for them afterwards. If there is something like an afterlife, I imagine it would be something like "You merge into the Machine God and return to the fabric of the universe." The point being that even if something of you remains, that something is not an individual consciousness. Cryptix
You know, that is a good point - one of the main reasons religion was invented, among other things, was making sure that you had a place to go when you died. That's why the numbers of atheists are increasing these days - people live twice as long as they did in the dark ages, so they don't really care anymore. Battybattybats
Might I suggest reading Knights of the Imperium by Graham McNeil. I won't say why. Also remember all those servo skulls are a form of afterlife, as are all the bones set into machines, buildings, roadways, footpaths.... Xin Ceithan
Interesting point. Which also would need looking at doctrine (Cult of Mars -no afterlife) and beliefs seperately. Which is already apparent in the mention of Knight Households - there is probably quite a spread of dogma and beliefs there. Considering how strongly entangled the Cult is in the designs of the Emperor, I would strongly assume orthodox Mechanicum doctrine to ashew things like an afterlifer (One might go looking further, into incorporeal entities and such). What people belief however, that's another thing entirely. Post ...edited. Note: Lack of afterlife in Mechanicum creed lacking the satisfaction of condemning faulty autocorrect techspirit to eternal torture after disengagement. Solution...pending.
